Labour and the Tories should be ashamed of themselves not have the balls to go and debate and defend their policies

Take a look at the Tories twitter page and they are using the hashtag of tv leader debate yet not even there how sad is that

Shows you all the Tories dont want debate and Labour are shite feart too

my thoughts.....

1) labour and conservatives all over my twitter feed.... bit rich them attacking if their leaders couldn't be bothered to show....

2) after the launch of the tory manifesto today, i think Corbyn should have turned up and i think this is a oppotunity missed! he could have talked labour policies all night!

and there taking it down a level....

3) leanne wood's ears.....

4) tim farron, much as i like the guy, found the "hot" camera a wee too much....

5) caroline lucas is a way better spokesperson than natalie bennett

6) nicola sturgeon winner by a mile tonight.... can she put up candidates in newcastle please!!!!

7) nuttall... ukips dead... if he can't remember peoples names that doesn't help.... served up his role as "punching bag" well...

I'm sure all that has to happen is for May to say she will debate and JC will too. It's kind of pointless having a debate without the Tories though, since they are polling 40-odd percent.

He does keep throwing the gauntlet down...

Of course Nuttall was going to come in for the most flak because he was the only pro Brexit candidate on the panel. Farron, Sturgeon, Wood and Lucas are all pro Remain unapologetic europhiles. Yet again the public got to see the bulk of these out of touch parties who are against Brexit, when a majority of the public voted to Leave. Let them carry on living in their own little deluded bubbles though, I think it wasn't a good look for those pro remain parties ganging up against the only Brexit candidate on the panel, who also happens to be the only one on the panel most in line with public opinion when it comes to Brexit.

Exactly this. They just shout each other down or talk in soundbites. It is only suitable for those with chronically short attention spans. I don't want my politicians starring in a crap Towie style show.

Jeremy corbyn has been nagging may for a debate for ages with may? He even posted a video asking calling her out yesterday, And on May's live Facebook interview on ITV's Facebook, Jeremy submitted a question on there asking her for a debate too, so I think that Corbyn wants a debate as much as we do, but May will probably hide until the big debate so it isn't just labour vs. conservative.

Does anyone know how many kids Farron has got and where he is from?, He pretty much namechecked his brother-in-law. And the rest of his family, his mum's friend, her children, their friends and neighbours, and people they knew from the bingo.

That was his "man of the people" act. Completely phoney, just like the rest of him.

Utter waste of time. Corbyn and May did well to avoid it. Five attention seekers shouting over each and gurning directly at the camera with phoney sincere expressions in order to appeal to the public. Pathetic. Like watching a bunch of two-bit insurance salesmen practicing their pitch.

Amazing too the hypocrisy on display.

Lucas against grammar schools - went to a fee paying boarding school.

Sturgeon banned council house sales in Scotland - her parents bought their council house for £8,000 back in 1984.

Farron all for open door mass immigration and taking in 50,000 "child" refugees - lives in the whitest part of the country with barely any immigrants and none of the social problems mass immigration brings.

What a bunch of tossers. Hope Farron gets "decapitated" so to speak come the election.

All of the panelists on the programme were elected though. If you are referring to Paul Nuttall he is an elected MEP.

Perhaps of greater relevance is that they were all ganging up on the one guy who spoke for the majority (I.e. those who voted for brexit)

Hope they all get crucified in the election - that'll learn 'em

Yup, it's not a debate at all. Debate is just a name given to make it sound pseudo-intellectual. I like a podcast called the joe rogan experience; it's not a debate either, it's a disussion without points scoring. But it's about 3 hours with a fact checker on hand who will interrupt if someone tells a whopper. None of the leaders would get through it without a breakdown.

Following that logic then Leanne Wood and Nicola Sturgeon are also unelected, they are not MP's. Leanne Wood is a member of the Welsh assembly and Nicola Sturgeon is a member of the Scottish parliament, Neither has ever been elected to Westminster as an MP. Considering it is a debate pertaining to a UK general election what were Wood and Sturgeon doing on the programme? Leanne Wood and Nicola Sturgeon are not standing for election to any seat in this general election, where as Tim Farron, Paul Nuttall and Caroline Lucas are.

You're quite right, neither Wood nor Sturgeon hold public office in the UK do they , nor do they lead parties with sitting MPs either , unlike Nuttalls who (when not busy upholding one of the worst attendance records for the position he was elected to/fiddling his expenses) leads a party consisting of how many MPs again?, the ghost of Screaming Lord Sutch has a greater claim to UK airtime than Nuttalls.

Technically speaking, no party currently has any sitting MPS.

However on dissolution of Parliament, Plaid Cymru had 3 sitting MPS and UKIP had no sitting MPs, Douglas Carswell having become an Independent.

Erm its very easy to work out why Nicola and Leeanne were there both are the party leaders yes party LEADERS there is the clue now seen as it was a tv leaders debate we shouldnt the leaders of the parties not be there ?

Oh and another thing as of right now their is no MP's in Westminster

Are you honestly trying to say Angus Robertson who is the deputy leader of the SNP should go on a tv leaders debate why not have the leader of the party ?

It comes across as though some people are afraid of Nicola and her debating skills

Take a look at this post you have people living in England saying they wish they could vote for Nicola and they aint the only ones in England saying that.

Paul Nuttall holds public office in the European parliament as an elected MEP on behalf of the UK. UKip the party Paul Nuttall now leads won the last European MEP election here in the UK in 2014 and UKip returned more MEP's in the UK than any other party.

That really is irrelevant. As kinkyHnS has pointed out the programme was called the itv leaders debate (try reading the title of the thread for a hint). Paul Nuttall is the leader of ukip and that is why he was on the programme. He had as much right to be there as the other 4 candidates.

Hardly surprising with a lefty BBC audience though is it? It was the same the other night on the BBC leaders debate, I'm just surprised they didn't all bring their pitch forks and lynch Paul Nuttall. At least Nigel Farage had the balls to call Dimbleby and the BBC out live on air on their bias in the leaders debate in 2015 when he said "the real audience is sitting at home". Seems nothing has changed at the BBC since then. There is no way that audience was 1/3rd Labour, 1/3rd Conservative and 1/3rd other parties or undecided. The BBC are a national disgrace.

Yes, they were all left corbynistas weren't they. I especially liked the way so many of them were hell bent on nuclear warefare just to hide it.

Good grief.

Did you not stop to think that the 1/3 that were labour supporters actually like their party's policies and so might have come across a bit more vocal in their support? As opposed to the 1/3 that are Tory that seems to say they would still be voting Tory *despite* all the shot policies and U-turns. I mean they are not going to openly cheer at the wage drop on nurses are they?

Yes, that was a pretty big porkie that went unchecked. May said that Abbott wanted to remove the DNA of criminals from the database. What Abbott specifically wants to do is remove the DNA of those *not* convicted (or even accused in some cases) of a crime. But given May's record on the Snoopers Charter it is hardly surprising.

... or maybe... the labour supporters are more vocal about supporting their policies.....

I have yet to hear one conservative supporter cherring about their social care policy... or their plans to in real terms per pupil to cut education..... or on the NHS!!!!!

in fact that answer she gave last night to the nurse who has been getting 1% pay rises for the last 7 years was absolutely feeble.....

Maybe because facing reality isn't as fun as listening to promises from the money tree. Judging politicians by how many cheers they get was socrates primary warning about thr inevitable path to demagoguery.

Yes they should. I was using the term 'money tree" before they were the minimum Corbyn proposed busted the tax to GDP ratio above 40%. The forum search doesn't lie. We're probably voting for the same party, if you let your head rule not your heart.

No strictly speaking true. YouGov have shown that on 22% of voters are hard remainers compared to 45% hard leavers. In other words, a lot of people believe the referendum is scacred and are no longer remainers as such.

The leader said she would seek independence cos of few things, such as, they get lots of moneys from the eu and brexit could wipe out their farming and other industries.

Are you talking about Leanne Wood? She's only the leader of Plaid Cymru, she's not the leader of Wales!

Plaid Cymru are the Welsh version of the SNP in Scotland, all they care about is independence, if it wasn't Brexit then they'd be using other excuses to gain independence.
