Tory immigration target

Lol... oh this is great:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39840503

Apparently the Tories are due to repeat their "tens of thousands" immigration target in their 2017 manifesto. The target they have repeatedly managed to completely miss.

The best bit....

"UKIP said the target was "vacuous" and the Conservatives had broken their promises "time and time again" on the issue."

Hahahahahah. Even UKIP think the Tories are a joke with this target.

Manifesto lies!

Actually its was the "promise" in 2010? Also the minister in charge was prime minister May? Accepting the argument that she had "no control " over EU migrants, which if she had enforced the "3 month" rule she could have, she still allowed 180,000 from the rest of the world? So what's she going to do differently - other than have Rudd taking on the job.

But the extra £350m a week for the NHS is going to be in the manifesto, right?

Anyone with an IQ larger than their shoe size knows that immigration in the 10s of thousands is never going to happen. It's yet more idiotic posturing to pander to the UKIP voters.

I was about to type, surely even UKIP voters are not that stupid, then remembered that the Tories got voted in with this in their manifesto last two times. Sigh.

There won't be any ukip votes left in this election, it was a one issue party that achieved its goal? Its done and dusted.

Immigration will be immigration, I dont have a problem in whatever the figure is, if we need 500k we need 500k.

If its 10k its 10k,I think the key will be need and that will drive the immigration figures rather than a arbitrary figure

I think it's more about people with skills coming here and not just rakes of unskilled labour.

It's about time people who get paid to site at home be given a job to do.

Ok accepted they can get the same money for not going to work but the country should get something for the money, even a 3 day week would be better than a 0 day week.

Your right and wrong.

If the market has plenty of spare labour willing to work for bobbins then the market will create jobs that pay bobbins, better jobs might feed off? that and it may stimulate growth but thats not the same as a market that requires high educated labour from India to grow its business.

Right, but if the market needs "high educated labour from India" then high educated Indians will come. If the market doesn't need high educated Indians, then they won't as they wouldn't find a job.

No your conflating to different things again, if immigration is dictated by market forces as you seem to think then why does the EU have a border policy, why does any country?.

Alot of eastern European labour is in all reality subsidized, its less obvious than government schemes like tax rebates but its not really that different.

Are they unskilled? I mean, yeah, I'm sure some may be, but any more significantly than, say the native population?

And great, yeah, lets reform our welfare system to help and encourage more people back to work. Which of the parties actually have tangible policies to do this? And why haven't we done it already. It's got nothing to do with immigration whatsoever.

An example:

My son is blind. He lost his sight due to a sudden and unexpected pressure build up in his brain. He lost it at age 17 in middle of his a-levels. He is a bright kid and was top of his class academically. He had to drop out of education due to this condition. Not only is he blind, but suffers short term memory loss, and day-long migraines. He has now had a headache for 7 years.

He now has a boyfriend. The boyfriend moved in with him (and us, he lives upstairs in a self-contained flat). The boyfriend works in retail for a well known computer brand that is known for customer excellence. But he is paid pretty close to minimum wage, as at the end of the day he is a retail shop-floor salesman.

Due to the fact that his boyfriend works over 30 hours per week, my son (remember, they are not married, or civil partnered) is now due to lose (due to Tories evilness) part of his benefits that he was entitled to before. The boyfriend has now considered dropping his hours in order so that my son still receives the benefits he is entitled to. My son is urging the boyfriend NOT to do this, as he is currently being eyed up for a promotion at work, and from what we can see could be a manager with this company in a few years. Despite this now bringing them economic hardship.

Bear in mind, that of course whether the boyfriend works 29 or 31 hours per week has no effect on my son's health and his needs for financial independence.

How is that a fair system? How is that a system that encourages people to advance and better themselves? How is that a system that encourages them to be less reliant on the state long term?

-Matt

.

Can I ask which benefits are they taking from him because of his situation?.

It does seem unfair and I don't know a great deal about benefits but lets say he was getting housing allowance and now they say as a partner or anybody for that matter is sharing the cost of the housing, is that unfair to then reduce it?

"at a guess i'd say DLA.

Whats DLA?"

DLA is disability living allowance, its made up of two components, care and mobility, with 3 levels of award for each component. Some people are still on it, but many have transitioned to PIP, personal independence payment. PIP also has care and mobility, but only 2 levels of award. Everyone will eventually come off DLA, some will transition onto PIP, however lots will not meet the new, stricter criteria for PIP and will stop receiving either benefit.

This however is unlikely to be the benefit that Matt is talking about as its not means tested. I would guess that Matt's son is receiving income based ESA.

"Oh, What's ESA then?"

Employment and support allowance. It's for people who cant work due to ill health or disability. 6 rates for this, contribution or income based, then assessment phase, work related activity group and support group. Plus additional categories dependent on age.

Your confusing EU referendum with with the national elections, they are and will always be totally different

It was said by lots of political figures from within vote Leave during the EU referendum from different political parties. One of them was Labour MP Gisela Stuart who also happened to be a founding member of Vote Leave. So if you think it should be in the Conservative manifesto then it should also be in the Labour manifesto on that basis, but then there was also Douglas Carswell who was in vote Leave on behalf of Ukip so by your logic it should also be in the Ukip manifesto as well as the Tories and Labour? border control isn’t about making a nation safe! If it were, wouldn’t it be safer to have it between England and Wales, or England and Scotland, or even between different counties? That would make us much safer, right?

If border control has no link to racism, then why are racist always calling for more control? Of course if you don’t agree with that statement, you will of course be able to provide evidence of a know racist calling for reduced immigration control and more people coming into the country

If the market doesn't need high educated Indians, then they won't as they wouldn't find a job. .

No your conflating to different things again, if immigration is dictated by market forces as you seem to think then why does the EU have a border policy, why does any country?.

Alot of eastern European labour is in all reality subsidized, its less obvious than government schemes like tax rebates but its not really that different.

Why do countries have border policies? For political reasons to keep the racists happy.

What utter bollocks, they have border police to ensure a nation remains safe. Or should we just be able to pop on a plane boat or any other means and transport and turn up where ever we want

I've never ever thought to myself as I approach a border post aye up steve, here's the racist post best be on your best behaviour or else you won't get in or out.

I take my place in line, I know I have nothing to worry about as I'm not a criminal. I hand over my passport and my US visa have a quick chat and hey ho!.. I'm in

Then it's off with a hop skip and jump to enjoy a well earned holiday and a few days free from the daily toil

border control isn’t about making a nation safe! If it were, wouldn’t it be safer to have it between England and Wales, or England and Scotland, or even between different counties? That would make us much safer, right?

If border control has no link to racism, then why are racist always calling for more control? Of course if you don’t agree with that statement, you will of course be able to provide evidence of a know racist calling for reduced immigration control and more people coming into the country "

Do you have a front door? Or are you racist?

Tory farce, repeating failed promises. Who's more stupid, them or us for believing them?

"Lol... oh this is great:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39840503

Apparently the Tories are due to repeat their "tens of thousands" immigration target in their 2017 manifesto. The target they have repeatedly managed to completely miss.

The best bit....

"UKIP said the target was "vacuous" and the Conservatives had broken their promises "time and time again" on the issue."

Hahahahahah. Even UKIP think the Tories are a joke with this target.

-Matt"

That old chestnut eh? The pm was the home Secretary too and totally failed so not surprised if she fails again

"There won't be any ukip votes left in this election, it was a one issue party that achieved its goal? Its done and dusted.

Immigration will be immigration, I dont have a problem in whatever the figure is, if we need 500k we need 500k.

If its 10k its 10k,I think the key will be need and that will drive the immigration figures rather than a arbitrary figure

I think it's more about people with skills coming here and not just rakes of unskilled labour.

It's about time people who get paid to site at home be given a job to do.

Ok accepted they can get the same money for not going to work but the country should get something for the money, even a 3 day week would be better than a 0 day week.

-Matt"

So how do you think the system should be changed then?
