Wanting minimum standards for rental properties....

Electrical safety, appliance safety, pest control etc...

This is a marvellous...wonderful...brilliant idea!! A definite vote winner!! Well done!

Oh........wait a minute. This already exists. The actual problem is that (in some areas) the local authorities don't actually enforce the regulations which are already in place. Mostly in poorer (mainly labour controlled?) areas.

Like a lot of Corbyns pronouncements...looks good on paper!

When I saw the title of the thread before reading the OP I thought surely this has to be a joke thread.

"When I saw the title of the thread before reading the OP I thought surely this has to be a joke thread. "

Yes a fair assumption.

These days any sentence containing the word Labour can easily be taken as such.

The problem with the idea of licensing landlords is that landlords will pass the cost on to tennants so rents will go up.

Labour are clutching at straws

Actually you are wrong, Tory MP Philip Davies and slumlord is proud to have filibustered out the very piece of legislation that would force slumlords like himself to maintain their property in habitable conditions rather than evicting tenants that complain to their local councils environmental health department.

He also talked out teaching children first aid in schools and free hospital parking for carers as well as many other bills.

but then he is a Tory...

Nope. In some cases you can get it paid for you, but not as standard by any means.

You seem to be talking about domestic violence here?

I rent myself..... Worcester are a conservative authority.... they use the existing laws where required. Annual gas/appliances certificate. (The only thing I've seen

/experiencedto be fair). Other regs include: Three working day limit on vermin control. External maintenance etc. (Some was done before I moved in).

All that is needed is for the authorities to bother to use the existing laws.... which include "revenge evictions".

Will the Green party be reinstating some of their candidates in seats they said they tactically wouldn't stand in now then to combat the threat from the Brexit loving Lib dems? Laughable stuff from Farron.

This thread isn't about hospital parking....but on that point you can (mostly) blame labour and PFI which means that the majority of hospital trusts don't own the car parks...just as they don't own the buildings/wards/operating theatres etc.

They are paying year on year on ridiculously inflated leases so that over a 25 yr period they will typically pay 8-10 times the actual cost.

On top of this they are tied into maintenance contracts (one example given by an NHS admin on another thread meant it cost over £300 to change a light bulb). The car parks are owned by the PFI companies in many cases.

Now can we move back to the point of the OP?

You seem to be talking about domestic violence here?"

When a link is supplied you would do well to open it and read the article rather than assume what the link says because of 2 words in the link title.

You are a typical arrogant Tory apologist and supporter who would rather defend those who seek to profit from your exploitation than admit you have been supporting the wrong side. But don't worry if you work hard, doing long hours and save every penny for your pension (and win the lottery) some day you may get a chance to join their club (unless one of them will decides they need a bigger boat and steals everything you have saved to pay for it). Then they will tell you you cant retire but have to work longer hours for more years for less pay to cover the cost of the theft.

No wait they have already done that to you and you still support them. You really must be thick! No wonder the Tories are laughing all the way to the bank!

And your assumption that I'm a Tory voter is equally arrogant, and equally wrong.

The thread is not about the Torres, nor voting intentions if you actually read my OP.

It is about labours latest idea and for people to comment on it.

Today they have added another great idea (in theory) to recruit 10,000 more police officers.

Sadly like the free school meals, reducing student fees, bank holidays, and a few other things it is all coming from the same magic money tree of cancelling corporation tax cuts (which in principle I also agree with).

The point I'm making is that their barmy leader is just making daily announcements without any realistic backing. The sadness being that labour under Corbyn are currently unable to offer a credible alternative.

actually.... in the interest of fairness you are incorrect with the information you give in this post on this one.....

what they propose is to pay for the 10,000 extra policemen by the reversal of last years cut in Capital Gains tax........

so will you now retract this please........

I stand corrected if that's the case. I know you are usually correct. I either misheard or it was misreported on TV this morning.

How much is the cut in capital gains tax worth? How much do 10,000 police cost?

The thrust of my argument still remains. One of labours biggest problems last time around was lack of trust on economic arguments. They tended to spend the same pound several times over then....they don't seem to have learned.

actually they have costed this one... 10,000 police would cost approx 300 million, the reversal in the cut in cap gains would more than amperly cover this.... (more than 600 million in yr 1 alone)

I was watching sky news analysis of this earlier. It seems Labour have not costed it properly. You (and Labour) say it will cost approx 300 million but that is at current wage levels. Labour have said they want to increase the minimum wage so that will bump the figure up past the 300 million mark if they keep the wage increase promise. Seems like yet another school boy error from the idiots in the Labour parry.

Because the tories (along with ukip) are the only parties who want to fully deliver Brexit. The Lib dems, the Greens and the SNP want to reverse Brexit, and Labour can't be trusted to deliver Brexit either.
