Hard to see anything other than a big win for the Tories.

At least it will finally get rid of Corbyn.

It might actually split the tory party though. Mixing brexit with domestic policy could backfire.

Which way will Labour lean to regardi g the EU ?

Would remain voters from across the political spectrum all flock to one party committed to staying in the EU or could party policies trump the leave / remain issue ?

Lib dems will probs come closest to this.

i guess labour will opt for a take on the noray style model - or they will make the mistake of fighting openly again.

they are in a complete fix, the poll numbers albeit with 'polls have been wrong before' are showing a clear margin between Labour and Tories..

so some could be looking at bye Palace of Westminster..

but to unite behind Corbyn makes a lot of them look like hypocrites as they have been plotting against him..

if they do unite behind him then they may be tarnished by his standing in the country which despite liking some of policies i just can't see the middle ground vote going to him as PM so then its a risk ..

what could happen is people who did not vote last June and those who voted to leave and are now not sure decide this is 'referendum 2' and take that track..

could all bite her on the arse..

Hard to say.

People are fed up with how the nation has bern run over the last 20 years or so and people know its not all to do with the EU.

However brexit is also divisive.

It really depends on the range of brexit 'options' and what each party offers domestically alongside it

My first thought was politically, as a strategy, have to acknowledge it is a great move by May.

Labour are in disarray but in two years might not have been, or a new pro Remain coalition/new party might have been up and running.

There is no chance they will be in any fit state to fight an election.

There are a couple of things though, this may get rid of Corbyn and result in an effective opposition, albeit reduced in numbers, after the election.

Also, I think in terms of government, yet again the tories are putting Party before people. This Brexit challenge is hard enough and they are failing as it is as well as in every other area due to the distraction.

Now they are throwing a fucking General election into the mix!

So two weeks ago, May tells the SNP that "now is not the time." A lot changes in a fortnight eh? My thoughts on this are that she and her Brexit team have realised that Brexit is going to painful and costly to them in votes. This cost they could not cope with now because of their slim majority. By calling an election in the shortest possible time frame, the country will not yet have felt the Brexit pain and so the conservatives should win a much larger majority enabling them to cope with the pain of the coming Brexit years.

There is no other reason to call an election other than the realisation that the reality of Brexit will be costly to them in votes.

This election is going to May's "Erdogan" election. She believes that she can win an overwhelming majority and use that mandate to push a hard conservative ideology - including a quick and brutal Brexit.

Immigration control will be difficult and gradual but at least we will have more control and we voted to leave the single market. The EU have refused to discuss EU citizens rights in the UK and what is wrong with providing incentives for business if the EU were stupid enough to try to penalise us in some way?

So you are aware of the issues

Not particularly interested in discussing them. It's somewhat off topic. I was merely pointing out that May's narrative of 'the opposition parties are trying to ruin our Brexit! ' should not be taken at face value. No government deserves to do what it wants without challenge, which is what she is suggesting she should get.

Yeah that is true but they still managed to get a majority of MSP's and were only 2 short of getting a majority in Holyrood again lets not forget that

So say the SNP did lose a couple of seats in the UK election but still got 50+ that clearly shows people in Scotland still trust the SNP

also what will it say if Labour , Tory and Lib Dem's lose there 1 seat each in Scotland i bet the call will be its a one party state in Scotland problem with that theory is people do vote and elect a party that want and it will show the union parties are useless.

Its a clear SNP vs Right wing Tories that dont give a fuck about Scotland or the UK

Neither of us have ever voted Tory in our lives.

But there's no way we want Corbyn or Tim 'nice but dim' anywhere near government, so we'll almost certainly be voting for the conservatives.

We will, however, be making our minds up once we've heard what each party puts forward.

I wonder if there's be any debates?

"Neither of us have ever voted Tory in our lives.

But there's no way we want Corbyn or Tim 'nice but dim' anywhere near government, so we'll almost certainly be voting for the conservatives.

We will, however, be making our minds up once we've heard what each party puts forward.

I wonder if there's be any debates? "

I'll be voting Conservative or Ukip. I'd never vote Labour with clueless Corbyn as leader and the lib dems are even worse with Tintin Farron in charge.

Am seeing on Channel 4 that they are saying there will be no debate how fucked up is that unacceptable. When you do a thing like this, have the courage to own it. Don't run away from it. Face the voters

Its clear why she doesnt want a TV debate because she's absolutely useless without an auto cue and has no charisma at all.

Really ? Lets go back to her wee statement about a Scottish independence referendum i quote '' Now is not the time '' Was her words about another Scottish independence referendum when asked when is the time for another independence referendum she couldnt answer it.

Now last year she sat there and told eveyone no UK election until 2020 as now was not the time to have a UK election now the big u-turn now she think is the time to hold one how embarrassing is that.

Well at least she has been made to look like a fool with her with clueless statements like red white and blue brexit , brexit means brexit and now is not the time to have a independence referendum which may i add the SNP are not asking for one right now lol

I will call it out like i see it the Tories are utter dickheads punishing people on ESA and PIP by cutting there money utter dickheads who are out for themselves to keep them rich and dont give a fuck about the poor

What planet are you on? It doesn't seem to be planet earth. Theresa May consistently outperforms Corbyn live on television every week at Prime ministers questions. This is reflected in the polls with the Tories streets ahead. Talking of fools it's the SNP who look like fools, sore losers who said the Scottish referendum was a "once in a generation" vote then just a couple of years later they are calling for another one. Sturgeon and Salmond lost indy ref 1 and then they backed the losing side again in the EU referendum, how embarrassing is that? Sturgeon and Salmond are the kiss of death to any campaign, always on the losing side.

She wont just be up against Corbyn she will have to face Nicola in a debate but if it true and there is no debates planned she has shat out it and wont face the voters coward is the best way to see that.

This once in a generation talk is utter pish it was an opinion and was never ever in the Edinburgh agreement that there will never be another referendum on Scottish referendum as that would be undemocratic to say no to a referendum when the people vote for a party that includes it in a manifesto and is elected on that manifesto.

So i have a question for you did the Scottish people elect the SNP in 2015 and 2016 on their manifesto policy if Scotland voted to remain and were to be dragged out then the Scottish government should have the right to hold a new independence referendum ? What is to fear about allowing the Scottish people to have their say on the final brexit deal before the UK leaves to sit there and say Scotland shouldnt have a say only goes to prove there is no equal parternship and the UK should break up and then we will have an equal partnership as neighbours no ones wants to live in a dictatorship but Scotland if facing that when we reject the Tories

Its all comign to an end with the UK and i believe Theresa May will be the last PM for the UK

Yeah Sturgeon and Salmond have always campaigned for an independent Scotland, they also said Indy ref 1 was a once in a generation vote (which we now know was a bare faced lie because they want another now). The tories will get a huge majority in this general election. The polls indicate so and the way the country voted in the EU referendum indicate so. Brexit will be the defining issue for this general election and on a constituency by constituency basis Brexit won by a landslide.

Imagine being so shit at politics Like Theresa May is you were actually afraid of Jeremy Corbyn when her support seems to think she wipes the floor with Corbyn

Maybe its the thought of coming up against Nicola Sturgeon that is making her shite feart to have a tv debate and face the voters.

Remember the last UK election a Tory leader was on live tv lying about cuts saying there will be no child tax credit cuts and then they win the election and that was their plan all along to have those cuts never ever trust a Tory

I hate to point this out but you say the SNP have lied about another independence referendum when it was never in the Edinburgh Agreement to say there will never ever be one again in the future.

But why is you seem to think that is unacceptable but you think Theresa May saying no UK election until 2020 and then lied and now is having one this year how come that is acceptable ?

Because he's a paid up member of the Alt-Reich? It's perfectly OK for them to say one thing and then turn round and do the exact opposite. If anyone who happens to disagree with their right wing views does something similar, they're lying, two-faced scum.

Put your own house in order, boy before you start accusing others of bare faced lies. True. He cant any get further to the right without falling off the edge and going full nazi... . "

Ah its bobbangs the arsonist again. Have you stolen any more cars lately? I'd rather be labelled right wing than an arsonist and a thief like you.

"Am seeing on Channel 4 that they are saying there will be no debate how fucked up is that unacceptable. When you do a thing like this, have the courage to own it. Don't run away from it. Face the voters

Its clear why she doesnt want a TV debate because she's absolutely useless without an auto cue and has no charisma at all.

That's bollox, Theresa May knocks lumps out of Corbyn on the hoof at Prime Ministers questions live in telly every Wednesday.

I think she's caught Flip Flopitis from Trump.

No Sturgeon and Salmond, once in a lifetime vote for indy ref and now they want another one, lol.

I think you're losing the plot. Sturgeon and Salmond have always campaigned for an independent Scotland.

May is the one who has the audacity to say 'now is not the time' to the Scottish Parliament and claim she will not hold an early election. Yet here we are in a situation that runs contrary to everything she said.

Hypocrite is what she is. Sooner this country (either united or not) is rid of her and the Tory leeches the better.

It doesn't have to be written down on a sheet of paper does it. The fact is Sturgeon and Salmond said it was a once in a generation vote, and they are on the record as having said it. There are many video and audio clips of them saying it They lied to the people of Scotland and now everyone can see it.

Thats your opinion however it was not in the Edinburgh Agreement that there will never be another referendum as that would be undemocratic if a party were elected on their manifesto policy to hold a referendum as that is mandate given to the party to deliver on that manifesto policy.

Here is a wee example:

If i put money on the lotto have a once in a lifetime / generation chance of winning the lotto does that mean if i say those words i cant ever put money on to win the lotto ever again ?

The right wing is running out of time and if they keep going they will break the UK up.

What Scottish voters need to realise is that they represent less than 10% of the UK electorate.

They participated in the EU referendum, so they should be bound by the result.

A voter in Paisley is no more special than a voter in Preston.

So its based on sheer popualtion now ? To hell about having an equal partnership in the UK ?

So because England has 60+ million and voted to leave the EU Scotland voted to remain in the EU has to just shut up and eat our cereal ?

Lets just remember there is EU ciitzens living in Scotland that are most welcome in Scotland that probably will not give their votes to the Tories and may give their votes to the SNP and Greens that are sticking up for them while the pro union parties are pretty much saying to hell with EU citizens in Scotland as when that section 30 order vote took place in Holyrood Labour and the Tories voted against giving them a vote as well as 16 and 17 year old a vote in any future independence referendum

Its called democracy. If you didn't like the game. then maybe it would have been better if you didn't join in.

I'm drawing no correlation between population and the equalness of votes, merely pointing out that Scotland has about 4 million voters, and the rest of the UK around 44 million. Every vote is as valid as the next one.

Ok i am seeing this as confirmed that Theresa May will not do any TV debates chicken shit

How bad is it that she is so scared of debating Jeremy Corbyn who i will admit is not the best at grilling Thersea May makes me think she is shite feart to debate Nicola as if the question of independence gets brought up will all know the PM wll shit out of answering and go back to her now is not the time pish but today we are all laughing at that shite as last year she said now is not the time for GE election now the u-turn now she claims is the time for one yet now is not the time for a new independence referendum when no one is Scotland is calling for one right now but in 2018/2019 will be the right time for one

God i feel for people that think Theresa May is a great leader piss poor but all is good as she will break the UK up

It's an unbalanced partnership as you get more devolved govt powers and more govt sending per head than england and wales. There was a vote for independence that didn't pass. Get over it. It's called a democratic vote

Ah good a debate on democracy. I so will you agree the SNP were elected on their 2015 and 2016 manifesto's and have a mandate to deliver on those manifestos ? I mean thats democracy is it not people voting to elect a party on a manifesto and the people giving that party a mandate.

Now for your answer to your question any EU citizen living here and paying tax deserves a right to have a vote on their future in the country they have chose to call home.

Thats the point is not an equal partnership its a dictatorship Scotland rejects the Tories yet have to accept cuts that Scotland never voted for.

More devolved powers ? Yet have to ask permission to hold a referendum from a countries government Scotland rejects every time ?

Ask yourself then if England subsides Scotland then why is Westminster so hell bend on keeping Scotland ? Surely is it not better to cut Scotland off if you feel like we are subside junkies ?

Yes there was a vote on independence but where does it say there cant be another vote on independence ? The UK government have caused this get mad at them

I wonder if the people living there know wee fluffy is under police investigation for electoral fraud

The one Tory mp that is suppose to have Scotland interests at heart and fought for remain now does not give a shit about his own constituency who voted to remain in the EU

Also, I think in terms of government, yet again the tories are putting Party before people. This Brexit challenge is hard enough and they are failing as it is as well as in every other area due to the distraction.

Now they are throwing a fucking General election into the mix!

Quite. Not to mention May repeatedly saying previously that there would not be an early election. Now she's 'changed her mind'. Yeah, right.

It's the only thing to do, all of the other parties are doing everything to fuck up the negociations for brexit in the vain hope of stopping it

Or, they're trying to put the brakes on a Tory party that's lurching to the right and seemingly set on burning our relationship with Europe no matter the consequences.

What does that actually mean?

I'm fairly sure you must be aware that there are issues that people are taking with the government's current approach. Do you really need me to tell you what they are?

Yes please

Prioritizing futile attempts at immigration control over the single market? Lack of guarantees for EU citizens in the UK? "if we don't get our way we'll become a tax haven"?

Immigration control will be difficult and gradual but at least we will have more control and we voted to leave the single market. The EU have refused to discuss EU citizens rights in the UK and what is wrong with providing incentives for business if the EU were stupid enough to try to penalise us in some way?"

25% of leave voters say they did not vote to leave the single market.
