Taking into account everything that is going on at the moment worldwide ?
How do you think if you could decide ?
What should our Armed forces be made up of ?
What should be changed ? If anything ?
Increased ?
Decreased ?
Personally I think the R A F is the one that really needs Up Grading ! |

The RAF likes to spend all their money on air superiority fighters like the Typhoon, when really they need decent air to ground attack and combat air support. Its crazy that we are still using tornados that are well beyond their sell by date.
Due to holes in the defence budget of £1bn (£700m of which is due to Brexit), the MOD are looking to cut the Royal Marines, which is crazy. |

It's quite simple really.
Scrap the £12 billion foreign aid budget.
That sorts the MOD budget black hole and gets us lots of new planes & bombs.
After all, what's the point of bombing fleeing civilians in Raqqa to bits then giving them a band-aid afterwards.
Then with all our new planes & bombs we can bomb all the airbases that our planes , American and American led coalition planes use to bomb women & children from.
Being so righteous that we are, It's only right isn't it

If we were to use the same budget , I'd scrap main battle tanks , keep the aircraft carriers but up grade them , develop a new improved Harriet Jump Jet , develop small high speed boats , small targets crammed with the best misiles , treble the marines and S A S . Keep a Nuvlesr Option but a truly indenpendsnt one that didn't involve the Yanks !!! |

To be honest the best plan of action would be to pull all of our forces out of all of these countries and stay away from them.
Leave them all to it to sort out because no matter what you do it will be wrong so might as well save the trouble.
Anyone who kicks off about the wanting to l age to fight for is should just be out on planes and dumped in Syria with a sleeping bag and some food and have thier British citizenship revoked and barred from the uk for life. |

Robots won't be effective as troops as they don't exist, the forces are currently being downscaled due to the 2020 scheme and many combat experienced people are leaving due to nothing happening during conflict the work we were doing had purpose now it doesnt we are just preparing for something that probably won't even happen |

An independent nuclear option would make trident look cheap as chips. It would cheaper to invest in anti ballistic missile technology.

I really don't get what the problem people believe we have by using a joint missile system with the USA. |

"treble the marines and S A S . "
Not possible Mr Suit, let me explain.
First lets deal with the RM:
The Marines are our only independent spearhead unit, this has been the case since the paras lost their independent status in the 70's. For the Commandos to triple in size and remain an independent unit not only would there be a need to recruit and train 9/10 times more marines (less than 1 in 3 recruits makes it through to the end of the commando course). But you would also need to recruit 9/10 times more army commandos to keep the commandos independent unit integrity. You would then need to triple or quadruple the size of the RN amphibious assault fleet (and of course its escort fleet). You would also have to increase the RN and RAF transport helicopter fleet, and of course the gunship and fixed wing fleets to provide escort cover.
Of course all the above also need their own support and similar increases in personnel to supply a recruitment pool.
Maybe you are now spotting a problem...
And if that sounds bad...
In my day the SAS/SBS standards were so high that less than 1 in 100 who volunteered got to selection and less than 1 in 10 passed selection. Then the RTU rate for those who went on to training was at least as high as that of the commando course.
So either you so reduce the standards required for entry to special forces and the commandos or you increase the size of all arms of HM Armed forces probably by a factor of 10 in order to do what you suggest. And that cant be done without increasing the budget by a lot! |

By the way I am all for increasing the size of our armed forces by a factor of 10 or 20...
Provided...
All uniforms, equipment, arms and munitions are manufactured in the UK by UK owned contractors and subcontractors.
In my day it was estimated that for every teeth arms soldier, sailor or airman it needed another 10 to support them and a further 5 civilians to support every armed services job, and every 5 of those jobs supported another job.
That's a lot of jobs and a lot of economic activity making the money circulate and us all wealthier. |
