I don't know, but I suspect that many of the 'quality' jobs we have attracted over the last 35 years because of deregulation of the finance industry and being inside the EU will depart over time. Of course if an EU country decides to deregulate their finance industry in the same way the Tories did in the early 80's there could well be a mass exodus. Of course many other jobs in service industries will go as a result, so maybe being a seasonal fruit picker will return to being seen as a great way for city dwellers to get a couple of weeks in fresh country air when their factory or mill is closed in the summer. |

When I was a student many years ago I went fruit picking in Devon with friends it was hard work low pay but we had a great time.
The modern British kids should get off there arses and do some good hard work,it is a very sad reflection on our youth that we have to get in labour from Europe.
Do they think they are to good to do menial jobs?I admire the Poles etc and I am sure they will still be doing these jobs long after Brexit |

"Growing economies usually create jobs. There is no point in creating jobs if there is no one to fill those jobs.
"
It's called ambition. Today's fruit pickers are tomorrow's engineers.
We need to direct our most driven and bright students into sectors where there will be jobs in the next few decades. I see too many graduates working in coffee shops and charity sectors.
McClaren has just created 200 high grade jobs in Sheffield. Work starts soon on a technology park near Loughborough university that aims to create 6000 plus jobs. We need to be creating a skilled and ambitious workforce, fit for purpose and driven to take us through the next couple of decades. |

My daughter got 2 A*s and an A at A Level and a first in Psychology and now works for a charity, through choice, not desperation, so I fail to see your point. |

Have you seen the attitudes towards skilled people with degrees on here?
So many are "too cool for skool", so I doubt everyone is going to get highly skilled and educated jobs in automotive engineering and the like. |

The country needs to identify what we are good at, and what we are going to be good at and then encourage and plan accordingly. |

If you're going to listen to LBC Shag then listen to The Nigel Farage show every weeknight evening for 2 hours. It's a great show. |

Like when that guy phoned up and said about people speaking 'foreign' on the bus, well that really got Farage going, saying that if people come to this country they should speak the language, how they can't integrate without it etc. etc. And then the man who had baited him so beautifully turned on Farage, and questioned him why he hadn't learnt to speak French or Flemish despite having lived in Belgium for nearly twenty years!
Farage said that he knew enough to order 2 beers, but that was it. It showed what a hypocrite Farage is expecting other people to do what he himself can't do. |
