How is this one in the politics thread?
Gaslighting is a common in domestic abuse and coercion.
The film that the term comes from is excellent. Ingrid Bergman driven mad by an evil Charles Boyer. The lesser known British version is also a tense thriller.

The American version features a very young Angela Lansbury in one of her earliest roles.

"Yes, but did you know that it has a name?
Gaslighting
Look it up on Psychologytoday.
What does it put you in mind of?

Gaslighting is much darker and more pernicious than anything a blustering politician does, though I am sure it is a technique the Donald will be well familiar with, damn sure he's a first class narc! |

Shush now...
They are watching you...
Our last PM told you "Britain is too “passively tolerant” and should not leave people to live their lives as they please just because they obey the law." And our present PM introduced the legislation while she was Home Secretary. |

You say that, but the Donald has started to control the public communications of government departments like the Environmental Protection Agency and NASA and limiting public access to data... |

The dark forces of anti-intellectualism have taken power, and one by one, various federal research agencies are being silenced, banned from discussing their research online in any capacity. Although their Twitter accounts are still active, references to climate change and environmentalism have been purged.
Fortunately, the resistance has clearly begun. Academics and researchers, both from government organizations and elsewhere, have taken to Twitter to set up unofficial accounts in support of the censored agencies. As they aren’t technically linked to the federal groups themselves, there’s nothing the Trump administration can do but to watch them grow in prominence. |
