I think we just need to allow the Brexiters to get on with it now and then see where we are a year or 18 months down the line.

A viote for Brexit was absolutely not a vote for the break up of the United Kingdom, it was not a vote for the return of hard borders to N Ireland and it was not a vote for higher prices, increased taxes, a faltering economy and higher unemployment.

None of this has yet happened and indeed it may never happen. But the direction of hard brexit, with demands for some kind of "frictionless access" (new made up Brexit word seemingly) to the single market and bespoke arrangements by sector with the customs union is not the stuff to inspire confidence that it won't.

Front of the queue for a TTIP.

Well done; wasn't that what BREXIT said the EU wanted to join? Except the EU turned it down because the US wanted to take control, and buy up the hospitals, and the infrastructure (the U.K. Government were the ones who were the fervent cheerleaders for it)

Note Trump's words on deals; quote from his speech

Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families."

Good luck with being fucked up the arse in your trade deal " in 90 days"

I doubt trump will put forward a TTIP style deal - he knows it was one of the things people liked about him over clinton.

That said, he said very clearly, "it's all about putting america first" or something to that effect, in relation to trade. So, I can see that 'special relationship' going out of the window. I think we'll be lucky if we get a mutually beneficial, bilateral trade deal.

Knew you would try to spin it like that. The reality is Trump despises the EU and it's the EU at the back of the queue for a trade deal with America now. The EU is a less attractive market without Britain as a part of it. Trump will have talked to his close friend Nigel Farage at length about Brexit (they have met 3 times since Trump won) and he will know a TTIP style trade deal will be a non starter with Britain. Trump is a business man and a deal maker, he will make a deal with Britain that works for America and Britain. Why would he do it? Well again I prefer to listen to what his close personal friends have been saying on the matter, people like Piers Morgan. Piers Morgan voted Remain in the referendum but as a democrat he accepts the result. Now he says Trump has told him he feels half British ( Scottish mother), Trump loves Britain, and without Brexit would never have won the Presidency. Brexit was his inspiration and now he has put his neck on the line by saying "Britain was so smart in getting out of the EU", and "Britain is doing great, Britain is in a great position", and "the British people took their country back, it's a great thing what the people did", do you seriously think he'll want to see Britain fail now? If Britain fails he is going to look like an idiot on the world stage after saying those things, so he won't allow Britain to fail, it's in his interest to see Britain succed.

Speaking of Churchill the bust of Winston Churchill is now back in the oval office in the White House at the request of Donald Trump (after Obama had it removed). So yeah the special relationship between America and Britain is alive and well. The relationship between Trump and the EU though, well that is in tatters.

Agreed.

Look, I really hope that trump does give us a nice trade deal which benefits us both equally - but I doubt he will. Or he might but the republican party and senators who basically say yes and amend agreement will try to push for TTIP-eque deals or a deal in favour of America, seeing as how it is the the bigger economic player.

Also, most of the time when trump gets involved with other businesses he screws them over or leaves them, and their area poorer. His ex-business partners call him either incompetent, a crook, or a dishonest man.

So basically I am sceptical as to whether he gives us an equally beneficial agreement.

Yes; this; eg Falklands;

Who dropped the UK in the shit over Suez

It would be a mistake to put any significant emphasis on the ups and downs of sterling, given that such movements are so heavily influenced by irrational behaviour on one hand and not inconsiderable market manipulation and speculation on the other hand.

I'm reminded of the story about the man who jumped off the Empire State building because he thought he could fly...

As he plummeted pat the 50th 30th and 10th floors he was heard to say...

"So far! So good!"

The £ has been consistently and steadily loosing value since the referendum despite the BoE supporting the £ and nothing has been really said about that. It regains a tenth of its losses and the headlines are £ soars!

It seems as if we are now in danger of entering some sort of national delusional state, where we don't see the rocks that are hurtling up to meet us but we do notice every little up-draft and think it is the proof that we really can fly...

It's in part thanks to Nigel Farage that the UK now has positive favour with President Trump. We have a lot to thank Farage and ukip for, after pretty much the rest of the make up of UK political parties bad mouthed Trump and backed Clinton. I'm very thankful Farage is close to Trump it could work to our advantage in an upcoming Uk/USA trade deal.

Centaur, regardless of political affiliations it is always possible to find someone who will support any view. The question is do you believe them or the evidence of your senses? I have never in my 60 years encountered a time when our currency lost value and I became better off. I have however heard many 'financial experts' and politicians tell me that they were making me poorer for my own good and that the £ in my pocket was still the same as prices rose and I found myself getting less for my money.

Now you may be taken in by such stories but I woke up to the truth a long time ago. When the £ is devalued we become poorer not richer.

The £ has lost 20% of its value in the last 6 months, that 20% loss in wealth is working its way down to all of us and the longer it takes to reach us the greater the final markup will be. That is the stark truth of the matter and we are all in for a really bad landing.

Unfortunately some are going to feel really betrayed when we hit bottom and there is a fair chance that the likes of smarmy nige will deflect the blame onto people like me because its easy to get the prols to blame the messenger when the message turns out to be true and unfavourable. That is stock in trade of the ruling class.
