Strange post.

Democracy is alive & well, it's our way of life and like Brexit the Americans have got what they voted for in the agreed framework of voting.

Only time will tell wether either are a good thing, or not.

Trump got the most votes on the electoral college rules. He won fair and square on the rules that were set out at the very start. Everyone involved knew what the rules were, it's a bit late in the day to start bitching and moaning and smashing a few windows over it now. You win the Presidency on the electoral collage not the popular vote! You can say popular vote until you are blue in the face, it won't make a blind bit of difference.

Do I have to lay down the Hitler Card again!?. Strangely, he was voted in by the people in Germany, he also lost the popular vote by 3,722,338 in 1933 if you combine all the votes cast against him, and look what happened to him when he wanted to make Germany Great Again.

Does history have to repeat itself again to make you realise nationalism does not work.

Geez...

I could take the Brexit votes add some borders, add electoral colleges to change the outcome. That isn't democracy. Check out CGP grey on YouTube he explains voting systems and their downfalls in a simple way.

Or you could take the general election, put in PR, have one person one vote, and end up with 100 UKIP MPs.

"Or you could take the general election, put in PR, have one person one vote, and end up with 100 UKIP MPs."

I for one would willingly see single MP constituencies replaced with multiple MP constituencies, with national candidate top up lists to ensure that the commons properly reflected the national vote and if that meant 100 UKIP MPs was the cost of introducing a STV PR so be it.

Of course it will never happen because the dominant parties would rather spend years without any power and then have their turn with total power than have to compromise and share power.

Trump won, they need to get over it. The reason he won is the same reason as Brexit won and a whole load of other shocks will keep coming.

People around the globe are fed up with career politicians with no experience of the real world making decisions that do not reflect what the people want, but ones that they think will just progress their career or write their name in history.

Normal people have had enough of being ignored and self righteous celebrities and full time protesters do not speak for normal people, they are the minority.

Always the same shout from the same quarter...

Trump did not win the election, he lost by some 3 million votes. He was selected by a rigged electoral collage. Further, according to his own security services his opponent was targeted by a hostile foreign power and he is on record as publicly asking that power to target her!

Our present government has a commons majority of 11 but is accused of electoral fraud in 29 key marginal seats. Further the tory government and party spent the last 20 months obstructing the criminal investigation. Could that be because those MPs would lose their seats and the Tories would be banned from standing in the by-elections caused? And of course that would mean our government would fall and all its legislation would be open to legal challenge.

Neither Trump or our current UK government have any honest claim to legitimacy. I and people like me think our elected representatives should be held to a higher not lower standard of probity than ordinary people. People like you on the other hand think that people like me should shut the fuck up because those you support won!

I think you and those like you, are either ultra right wing fascists, totally deluded, utterly corrupt, have been so brainwashed you can no longer even recognise the truth no matter how stark it is or a combination of all the above. And I for one will not be shutting up until all those who have corrupted our parliamentary democracy face prosecution.

Labour and the Lib dems also broke the general election rules on spending limits. Have any of their MP's been removed? The answer is no they haven't! All they got was a fine from the electoral commission.

Supporting the notion that the person with the most votes wins !

Geez..."

Ah wondered when someone would bring up Hitler. These threads are so predictable. Some newspaper columnists in the American press compared Ronald Reagan to Hitler when he won the Presidency, turned out to be complete nonsense, and Reagan was a great President.

Different elections/referendums have different rules applied to them. Everyone knows what the rules are at the start of the election process.

The UK general election rules are run on the first past the post system. The party that wins the most constituency seats wins and gets to form the government. We also had a referendum to change the first past the post system to AV and the British people rejected the idea in that referendum.

The American Presidency is run on the electoral collage rules. People like you seemed very happy with the system when Hillary Clinton was leading in the opinion polls and you thought you were going to win.

The EU referendum was done on a popular vote system, and again people like you seemed very happy with those rules when you were leading in the opinion polls during the referendum and you thought you were going to win. Then you lose the popular vote in the EU referendum you still bitch and moan and complain about it.

One of those is the constituency of South Thanet. I take it you want the Tory who won in South Thanet removed from his seat then, and the 2nd place candidate to take the seat by default. The person who came 2nd in South Thanet was Nigel Farage for Ukip. So you'd like to see Nigel Farage in the house of commons as the MP for South Thanet. UKip also came 2nd place in many other constituencies around the country. You remove those 29 Tory MP's and we would have quite a few UKip MP's in Parliament.

"No and yes.

No I did not change my opinion about the EU. I think that despite its faults it is the best thing that has happened to Europe since the Roman Empire and that it is the main reason that Europe has remained relatively stable and peaceful for the last 70 years.

Yes, I did change my mind about our place in Europe and how I should vote. I reluctantly came to the conclusion that we (the UK) are too much of a disruptive influence within the EU and have become nothing more than a Trojan horse for US disruption of the EU and that as a result we have to be removed from the EU until we wake up to the reality of where our future lies and accept that we need to be an equal partner in the Union rather than the spoiled brat in the club that bullies everyone else into giving us special treatment. I am sure that there are many more that reached the same conclusions as me, and for the same reasons as me.

Over the campaign I changed my mind about how I would vote and voted 'out'. Sometimes a little self harm is required to cut out a cancer before it spreads to the whole body. I just hope that our eurosceptic disease has not become a terminal illness for the EU. "

Frankly those protests need to be cracked down on we have such a thing as the rule of law, and those protestors are engaging in criminal behaviour by physical attacks on police and the willful criminal damage of property. What do you expect this kind of behaviour to be allowed now?

Ah we can both agree Reagan was a great president, Trump is not in the same league as that man.

Confucius once said "study the past, to divine the future"

The past happened it cannot lie, the future is unknown, but anyone who would like to study it knows, empires rise and empires fall, some over a period of time, some are brief and fleeting. 4 or 8 years, Trumps time will be over, as sure as anything, would it be like caesar will the republic become an empire?, will it be like hitler (oh I am so predictable) where the weimar republic became the reich?

Past behaviour dictates future action, and with Trump, and what you can see from the whitehouse website that past behaviour will be dictating future action.

But the simple truth is this, the past has shown time and time again, that tyranny will be overcome, and so will Trump, so have your moment in the sun, for it is only brief, then the wheels of history will turn always.

I have quoted myself from 2 threads in answer to your implication that I am applying double standards.

Never mind, at some point you will catch up. Then you will understand that I make three types of post. Opinion, where I always say it is my opinion or what I believe. Fact where I make factual statements. From Wiki:

"Social Justice Warrior

A pejorative term for an individual who repeatedly and vehemently engages in arguments on social justice on the Internet, often in a shallow or not well-thought-out way, for the purpose of raising their own personal reputation. A social justice warrior, or SJW, does not necessarily strongly believe all that they say, or even care about the groups they are fighting on behalf of. They typically repeat points from whoever is the most popular blogger or commenter of the moment, hoping that they will "get SJ points" and become popular in return. They are very sure to adopt stances that are "correct" in their social circle.

The SJW's favorite activity of all is to dogpile. Their favorite websites to frequent are Livejournal and Tumblr. They do not have relevant favorite real-world places, because SJWs are primarily civil rights activists only online.

#1:

A social justice warrior reads an essay about a form of internal misogyny where women and girls insult stereotypical feminine activities and characteristics in order to boost themselves over other women.

The SJW absorbs this and later complains in response to a Huffington Post article about a 10-year-old feminist's letter, because the 10-year-old called the color pink "prissy".

#2:

Commnter: "I don't like getting manicures. It's too prissy."

SJW: "Oh my god, how fucking dare you use that word, you disgusting sexist piece of shit!""

Or as pointed out earlier, "full-time protesters"

Fair enough. Wiki says someone similar:

""Social justice warrior" (commonly abbreviated SJW) is a pejorative term for an individual promoting socially progressive views,[1] including feminism,[1][2] civil rights,[1] multiculturalism,[1] and identity politics.[3] The accusation of being an SJW carries implications of pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction,[4] and being engaged in disingenuous social justice arguments or activism to raise personal reputation, also known as virtue signalling.[5]

The phrase originated in the late 20th century as a neutral or positive term for people engaged in social justice activism.[1] In 2011 when the term first appeared on Twitter it changed from a primarily positive term to an overwhelmingly negative one.[1] During the Gamergate controversy, the negative connotation gained increased use, and was particularly aimed at those espousing views adhering to social liberalism, cultural inclusiveness, or feminism, as well as views deemed to be politically correct.[1][2]

The term has entered popular culture, including a parody role-playing video game released in 2014 titled Social Justice Warriors.[6][7][8]"

IU won't copy and sate the whole thing as I bet Wiki too is "considered a non reputable source of information"

And again you twist reality.

You may have said 'posters' but you quoted me. I accept that that is a clever debating strategy when one wants to divert attention from the topic to a personality and that you use it with practised aplomb. But that only reinforces my impression of you as being less than honest.

If you feel I am being unfair to you may I suggest you learn the art of holding down the left mouse button while moving the mouse over text to highlight passages and then use the delete button and in that way remove all text but that you wish to reply to (it is called editing). Or maybe if making general observations you could just post comments without without quoting anyone.
