An article from the Sun:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/2325251/nick-clegg-gets-ripped-to-shreds-by-andrew-neil-on-the-liberal-democrats-position-on-brexit/

Headline: "Nick Clegg gets ripped to shreds by Andrew Neil on the Liberal Democrats’ hypocrytical position on Brexit"

The actual interview itself:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04k43fq

In the panel discussion right at the very end of the full programme:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b083gbxh/sunday-politics-04122016

Toby young says on Clegg: "Yes, he took his punches, and even got a few in himself"

to which Neil replied "Yes, he did. He held his ground very well".

Still think that the British people have not been being lied to throughout this process?

Sorry, I know this is not news or a surprise to anyone here, but alas I fear there are too many people out there that don't question what they read or hear.

Andrew Neil said at the end of the interview "our viewers will make up their own minds", and I'm sure they did. Andrew Neil says that at the end of a lot of his interviews. Clearly the Sun journalists have taken that view and made up their own minds, which Andrew Neil said they are entitled to do. I'm broadly in agreement with the Sun's conclusion on this interview with Clegg. No doubt other newspapers such as The Guardian will take a different view, which they are entitled to do and Andrew Neil said they can make up their own minds. Not really sure what point you are trying to make with this OP?

No one is forced to buy the Sun newspaper just the same as no one is forced to buy the Guardian. If you don't like a newspaper then don't buy it, it's called freedom of choice.

Of course it is freedom of choice. My point being that it is an example of a paper setting out a very specific headline that bears no resemblance to the event they are reporting on. Notice they didn't even link to the interview itself, only if you went to search for it yourself would you see how inaccurate the headline was.

As I said, none of this is new... just a very striking example.

Problem is there is no getting away from it online

I can't do anything on the Internet without subtle nudges about Trump/Clinton popping up

I've very little interest in either or the US election yet its forced into my consciousness repeatedly

Look at the mania in the US where people are acting like they have lost loved ones

I'm sure brexit stories are having a similar effect in the UK

We haven't actually left yet.....we will have to see what happens when it comes to it, Clegg could be wrong, or he could well be right.

Did you see the daily mail front page putting fear about the amount of immigrants while celebrating the life of Andrew Sachs a refugee.

Each paper represents a biased view to sell their papers. Which is why we follow or link to papers that have similar views to us. So if you want to make your own judgement, goto the source and make your own mind. Don't become a sheep. Or read all the papers views and make your own mind up.

It is a very sad state of how twisted all of our morality has become when we actively make a choice as to how we want the news interpreting and act accordingly by only taking news reports from the source that most suits our personal agenda.

Personally, to try to get a balanced view;

I watch BBC, SkyNews and CNN

I read (online) MailOnline, Guardian and HuffPost.

No he didn't. He made a political compromise and the media hung him for it. Looking back with the benefit of hindsight the coalition did OK and certainly better and more aligned that what we have at the moment. I suspect that given time, history will not judge Nick Clegg as harshly as the voters led by the media did.

Maybe you should look at this...

And to quote his first few sentences...

"We made a promise before the election that we would vote against ANY rise in (tuiton) fees under ANY circumstances"

and he goes on to say..

"We made a pledge, we didn't stick to it"

There is huge harm done for that very reason;

They put up an inflammatory and untrue headline; the Sun reader ( or the reader if any other rag like the Mail) reads the hardline; believes it; doesn't read anymore if it, or any other opinion, so goes away believing it.

And when it comes to voting about something, theyjust remember one of the lies, and have no other knowledge of issues.

Those newspaper proprietors know this; that's why they put up untrue headlines, and if they do tell the truth , they bury it deep where the majority won't bother to read.

Trump did the same thing with his campaign; tell a lie, the sheep will take it as a fact; they won't notice the very quiet retraction later.

BREXIT used the same tactic; the morons believed the " money to NHS rubbish" ; when challenged, BREXIT admitted that it wasn't true; then said it again the next day.

So not lying. Actually admitting that they made a pledge and didn't stick to it. A bit like Theresa May supporting Conservative manifesto of 2015 pledging to keep Britain in the single market. A pledge she now seems to be distancing herself from.

He admitted on the same video that they knew at the time of promising to vote against raising tuition fees, if they went into a coalition with either labour or the tories, they would not be able to keep that promise.

You are right. It didn't come into the equation. That big red bus as a figment of my imagination. As where the prime-time TV adverts by the leave campaign directly showing their dream of the NHS before and after Brexit side by side, and how leaving was going to make things so much better.
