How do you improve people's lives?

Just for a change, don't reply to each other for now, just put down your thoughts until I unleash you

Ideas for making people's lives better locally, nationally and globally in any way.

This could be positive

A few to start:

Increased funding for education throughout the world, particularly for girls. An international G7 fund sticking to basics. Maths, science and the local language

Full funding for sports and other after school activities for teenagers/young adults to discover abilities and talents.

Increase the minimum wage and reduce top up benefits so that low wages aren't subsidised by the taxpayer.

Tax all companies on UK revenue so that they contribute to the economy that they make their money from.

Shareholder remuneration votes on company boards made binding and pay differentials made public.

It is simple really.

Reduce inequality by improving standards across the board.

There is nothing hard to understand in the concept. It does mean over time the gap between the rich and poor will shrink and of course that means that the rich will no longer wield as much power, but every study has shown that the smaller the inequality gap the happier and less dysfunctional a society becomes.

In my opinion the minimum wage has helped to keep wages down and not encourage hard work, loyalty and progression within companies so I would scrap that. But yes taxes should be paid in the country where profits are made and one way of ensuring that for the UK would be for the UK to leave the EU. Global Britain have calculated that the UK would be £20 billion better off taxwise if profits weren't funnelled through places like Holland, Ireland and Luxemburg

I think between other posters I'd probably be able to find most things I agree with spread throughout them.

So I'll focus on something personal to me that I've found in my area.

For me it would be to create a National Mental Health Service which could work in conjunction but parallel to the NHS.

This would involve setting up specialist degrees, degree style apprenticeships and apprenticeships to create the skilled labour required.

In addition, I'd want to create something which allows people who have just finished school/A-levels, who are not sure where they want to take their life, to find paid placements to get a feel for the work place, whilst contributing to it.

Finally I'd want to increase access to green spaces and 'wild spaces' to facilitate better mental well being aand physical well being.

Increase understanding, acceptance and tolerance of other cultures by setting up a global exchange program in which people go to live and work in another country for a few weeks. Yes I know this has been done before (e.g. AIESEC) but needs to be a much bigger scale and open to those that might not even have natural aspirations to travel.

A massive council house/flat building programme would be a good start, a minimum of 100,000 new council homes a year.

Maintain and continue to link the Living Wage to the retail price index.

Cease targeting the disabled and concentrate instead on getting long term FIT people into work.

Reintroduce the old Enterprise Allowance scheme, including a one off grant of £2,000 and a weekly allowance for six months to get more people into worthwhile self employment.

This works very well in New Zealand.

Use the New York model to have thousands more civilian workers within our police force, so that officers don't have to waste hours taking witness statements for example.....free up police to do the job they were trained for.

Press industry and manufacturing companies to try even harder with apprenticeships, let's plug that skills gap to make us less reliant on bringing people into the UK.

Invest....Invest.....Invest in infrastructure and bring the country into the 21st century with much improved transport links.

Relax building regulations so that far simpler housing can be built fast, like the use of converted shipping containers to build cheap homes for our younger generation.....it works well all over the world.

Give less academic children more chance to learn vocational qualifications from the age of 14, not every child will be future doctors, teachers, professionals.....let's train the next generation of bricklayers, carpenters, road engineers, from an early age.

Raise the tax threshold to £20,000 with immediate effect.

Firstly I'd start cap and trade carbon with every single penny going back to the people, the carbon you burn the more you pay in but every single person gets an equal share back.

.

Then I'd have a 100? inheritance tax....

In a way they did, but they tried to do it in a pre-industrialised country and "control" their industrial revolution through a command economy and/or state capitalism.

A big question, but firstly people must want to improve there lives, that starts with education I guess.

We need more law and order so people can feel free, bring back good old fashioned family values.

Let children be children by this I mean let them play and be free, but teach them a structure in which they know what is right and what is wrong, train them from an early age

Teach them about every religion so that they can work out the good in all.

Close the internet to people under say 15,get rid of mobile phones so they learn to comuniocate with others in the real world.

Better lives has nothing to do with any social structure that is imposed upon society, society is what the people make it,not what goverments do by enlarge.Love will win,yes I was a hippy and I believe in beauty if we make it so,if we all dream that's a start

Investment in education. Research and Development investment in sciences and technologies. Practically every social advance has been created because of a technological advance.

So, definitely education. More, better, more diverse.

Be more open to other cultures and religions.

Affordable housing.

Improve infrastructure.

Wealth redistribution from individuals and corporations to a greater or lesser extent.

Carbon trading to raise revenue and reduce pollution/climate change.

More law and order? Hopefully that comes as a natural consequence of all of the above.

Eliminate the minimum wage? Doesn't that mean that the state subsidised private companies by ensuring that they're staff get enough money to live?

Be nice.

This feels a little like progress.

All long term investments. How do we get a press and political system that thinks like that if we , as a population, have a 5 minute attention span, want results immediately and say that we care but vote for tax reductions and fewer foreigners?

We need a society that values those who educate, who heal, who build and who mentor......at the moment we reward fat cats serial failures who go from one CEO position to another.Make it a company rule that no employee can earn more than 5 times another...so a director can only earn 5 times the cleaners etc...It would bring us all up a few rungs of the financial ladder

Open to others religions... No thanks, that's like being open to others farts and having to hold your tongue for fear of offending them that there farts smell bad!.

I belive in freedom to practise your religious beliefs, not freedom to promote your religious beliefs or freedom to impose your religious beliefs... The not imposing trump's your freedom to practise... Openness is irrelevant, you might as well ask 66 million people to be clones, it's a pointless task.

That's the whole point of a secular state
