Austria far-right candidate Norbert Hofer defeated in presidential poll - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-38202669
Good news for some. Italy next. Then France, Netherlands and Germany. |

Just saw an article about the right wing movement. The stats are not as high as we think they are. But next elections will tell us.
Search how right wing is Europe nytimes. Not sure the link is allowed. |

"Farage is being partially blamed for the defeat, as he said in an interview on Friday that a Hofer win would give Austria a referendum to leave the EU.
"
I would like to think and hope that not that many people in Austria pay any attention to Farage.

I'm actually shocked, I thought that austria would go right.
Glad they didn't go right though. Nice to see an independent ex-green politician making gains. Even if it is just mainly a ceremonial role. |

Well, it seems they probably did. Except in Austria, they listened to what he had to say and rightly decided the correct response to his racism was to stick two fingers in his racist direction.
It's just a shame he doesn't receive that reaction more often here. |

Well Anders Mahdalik knows who Farage is, and Mahdalik is an FPO member of Vienna City Council. And he was commenting on the reaction to Farage's comments about Hofer to the Austrian press on Friday. And Mahdalik is claiming it had a negative effect on the FPO campaign result.
Farage may be one of the most ignorant and racist human beings on the planet, but like it or not, people still hear his opinions, unfortunately. |

Exit polls for the Italian referendum don't look good for Renzi and the EU. Looks like Renzi has lost and he has lost by quite a big margin if the exit polls are correct. |

The vote for no was purely against a change in the Italian constitution, foolishly Renzi put his political career on it. Most pro EU Italians voted against him because they didn't want that change in their constitution. |

And most anti EU/anti Euro Italians voted against Renzi to send a message to the Italian establishment and the EU. The anti EU/anti Euro Italian party are doing very well in the Italian polls and they want to take Italy out of the euro. The Euro has already taken a hit in reaction to this in the money markets. |

The no vote was against a change in the constitution which has nothing to do with the EU. The fact that Renzi (and his party) is pro EU wasn't a consideration for most Italians when it came to this vote. |

The Italian 5 star movement party who are anti EU/anti Euro ran a campaign on this referendum mainly along the lines to vote against Renzi to get him to resign so we can take Italy out of the Euro. That was their main pitch to voters and they are also doing quite well in the Italian polls. |

I know what you're saying but this vote was about constitutional change, not about the EU. Most pro EU Italians voted against Renzi because they didn't want the change to the constitution that he put forward. For this reason this vote cannot be used as a barometer as to wether the Italians would vote to leave the EU. Like Renzi the next leader will be non elected.

"47% of Austrians were happy to vote for a fascist so it's not all good news."
fascist? When conceding defeat and saying that he accepts the result, will work for the good of the country and that the voter is always right, he came across as a far better person and ddcent more honourable politician than many of the Liberal/Left fascists in this country |

"

Why is he a dick?"
well apart from the fact that he gambled everything in his quest to gain more power for himself through vanity and greed and failed he supports the EU |

We all need to hope that these results make those at the top in the EU realise they have gone against the wishes of the majority of the people of europe and say we need to change back to a trading block and less political entity. If they dont then more extreme views may rise and that is in no ones interest |

I think it's a stark contrast from his reaction to defeat which he accepted gracefully compared to the many Remain MP's here in the UK who refuse to accept the result of the EU referendum and continually throw their toys out of their prams because they can't get their own way. |

you don't think that the majority of people in Europe want the EU to reform? That was practically all we heard from the Remain side in the UK during the referendum. What does that reform mean? I've not heard anyone explain yet |

Have you ever listened to comments from most countries, even a lot of keen europhiles say it needs change and reform yet what happens more rush to a superstate. It either changes as the voters want or it will fall |

You do know that he said that the EU needs more unity. He also blamed Herr Farage for disruptive interference by saying that he was planning an EU referendum, which he wasn't. |

It is all eu's fault, it doesnt have to be a crisis, a great leader changes the law with the times, but merkel dont realise this, sweden will be next as sd will win.
EU will be judged hard on history..... it could of been a paradise. |
