Can hardly be called a victory for Remain (which they will no doubt try to claim) if the Lib dems win this seat. Richmond constituency voted 68% remain in the referendum so it's no surprise they would now vote for a Remain MP. If this bi election had been held in my constituency of Cannock chase who voted 68% Leave the Lib dems would have been trashed and it would've been a landslide for Zac Goldsmith. |

As we are in with the sexual innuendo's regarding the "bi" election. It is probably more about the "swing" from the conservatives to the LibDems and the potential re-emergence of the LibDems as the only credible centrist party now in the U.K.

Well, it would mean they put the general catastrophe of brexit ahead of the very specific to them catastrophe of the airport and the party they normally vote for.
Pretend that isn't significant if you want. |

Richmond used to be a Lib dem constituency before Zac Goldsmith came along, so they are just going back to the Lib dems on the back of the referendum result. |

Richmond is exactly the same sort of Constutuency as Theresa Mays own. She will absolutely be worried if wealthy conservatives have had a 24,000 majority whippwdbfrom under their feet on an entirely Brexit ticket.
Divided Britain is no good for anyone, especially our own PM lol |

In all it's guise's as Richmond/Barnes/Twickenham it's always been a nailed on blue, Margo and Jerry wouldn't even think of voting any other way

Ed Milibands constitiency voted Leave in the referendum are you saying his seat could be under threat in the general election because he supports Remain? Same can be said for many other Labour MP's in the north. Zac Goldsmith wasn't standing as a conservative candidate, he was standing as an independent in this bi election. He resigned as a conservative MP. He didn't have the weight of the Conservative electioneering juggernaut behind him for this bi election. Considering the constituency voted 68% Remain no one should be surprised by this result. I don't think Theresa May has anything to worry about. She is streets ahead of the other parties in the polls. Also if the EU referendum had been done in the same way as the general election (electing MP's by constituency) then it would've been a landslide victory for Leave. |

I'm watching the election coverage on BBC 1 This week programme with Andrew Neil. Baroness Kramer of the Lib dems is on the programme, she said she held the seat for the Lib dems before Zac Goldsmith. Zac Goldsmith took the seat for the Tories from the Lib dems in 2010. It also just said on the programme Richmond Park was the most pro-Remain constituency in the EU referendum. |

As a constituency Richmond Park is cobbled together from boundary changes involving Richmond Barnes Kingston and Twickenham, save for Goldsmith's predecessor and Vince Cable's tenure in Twickenham it has always been solid blue, as I pointed out it is only the uni students at Kingston that have had any effect on it's returning pattern. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
I don't think his negative mayoral campaign helped. The Tories that used local Tory resources to support him as an independent may have put off those Tories who saw this as a bit of hubris and a betrayal of their support. All of the other candidates also supported his central campaign of opposing Heathrow expansion.
The LibDems turned Zac's majority around completely and good on them for making it happen.
As Brexiters like to remind us, that's democracy. Accept the result and move on.

"Well, it would mean they put the general catastrophe of brexit ahead of the very specific to them catastrophe of the airport and the party they normally vote for.

The Liberal Democrats were guaranteed to win..
There were three good reasons not to vote for Zac Goldsmith .
1. He abandoned his own party by resigning .
2. He opposed expansion at Hearhrow .
3. He appeared to support Tom Watson when false allegations of child abuse were made against a number of MPs. Any one with common sense would have known that the allegations were false and not worth investigating .
The lib dem victory is exactly as expected and nothing to worry about . |

Just watched a news report. A number of people were saying they liked Goldsmith, would have voted for him, but brexit was too important and were putting the country first.
We won't be leaving the single market and quite possibly not even the EU.
People have had their protest, reality is kicking in, as well as the evidence of what an incompetent lying bunch of shites the Brexiters were. |

Not many people will vote for an MP who abandons their party and in addition prevents new jobs being created by preventing an airport expansion. |
