Paul Nuttall
Jump to: Newest in thread
He is now the UKIP leader. He is even more right-wing than Farage. He wants to privatise the NHS, bring back the death penalty, is in favour of limiting abortions to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, wants Christians to be able to discriminate against gays.
.
Some people reading this won't find any of this troubling. OK, I get that and you are as entitled to your views as I am, but I am not asking you to explain/ justify his views here. I *am* asking anyone - Left, Centre or Right - who does not share those views to get off their backsides and get involved in resisting the move to this kind of politics. And resisting does not mean posting Stewart Lee's stand-up routine about Nuttall onto Facebook or Twitter and then thinking you have done your bit.
Once again, I am not asking anyone who agrees with Nuttall to come on and explain/justify/troll. Thank you. |

Don't like or agree with most of the mans beliefs, but I'm sort of with him when it comes to the death penalty and his belief that the law should not force Christians (or any other religion) servicing the requirements of those who are seen as an abomination by the faith. |

Not ALL Christians see gay people as an "abomination" as you call them. |

True, but my point is why would anyone from the LGBT community want anything to do with anyone whose 'faith' considered them an "abomination". The only reason that anyone from the LGBT community would want to interact is to be deliberately provocative. Personally I say let the dog botherers get on with it provided they don't come looking to bother us.
I am bisexual by the way. |

Castro would have been proud.
For the record I don't agree with everything that Nuttall says but if he can unite the party and help to push Brexit along then more power to him. |

Your talking to the wrong Christians or reading the bible the wrong way if that's what you believe they believe. |

The whole point of resisting religious exceptionalism is so that people cannot cloak their hatred and bigotry in a religious mantle which then somehow makes it "wrong" or "intolerant" to criticise their intolerance.
I am secularist: freedom of religion and freedom from religion. |

No, I am not talking to Christians of any type, I am talking about the sort of people who believe it is their right to overtly force their sexuality on those who have antipathy to LGBT's.
We have endured hundreds of years of repression and victimisation. We now have the freedom to be open about our sexuality, we should be enjoying our freedom not looking to victimise those who do not approve of our sexuality. |

I still don't know what this thread is supposed to be about?
But good luck to the guy anyway. Whether I agree with any or some of what he says, we need more politicians who will speak their minds and fewer of the pc non entity careerists we've had for years |

I believe the guy had been a regular customer before, but I didn't follow the story all that closely so I could be mistaken.
They were happy to serve the guy, and bake a cake, but they refused to write the message on top.
They said that writing the message was against their beliefs, the judge said just because you write something on a cake, it doesn't mean you believe it, or support the message.
That isn't anti Christian though is it? That arguement applies to all religions or belief systems.
So how are Christians penalised for their beliefs? |

Hahaha, yep. Paul Nuttal is from a working class background, was brought up on a council estate in Liverpool, has an electrician father, left school with average qualifications but went back to schools and ended up getting a degree in History and became a history lecturer before going into politics. He's a world away from the career PC politicians and we need more people like Paul Nuttal going into politics. Labour are completely out of touch have with traditional working class voters and many Labour MP's in the Labour heartlands in the north should be very worried at the prospect of Paul Nuttal being ukip leader. I think he will do a great job for ukip and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can achieve. |

Please point out where that was said in any of that posters comments ? name calling on either side scores no points
It was on the The Rise of Fascism in America thread, about two-thirds down. "
About a quarter way down to be precise.
Just for clarity I will post it again along with the very same green smiley that I posted at the time.
"The Nazi salute does still have a place in the world.
Anything that can make your average tree hugging liberal puke in his/her alfalfa sprouts has to have some merit"
In the context of the thread and other comments I posted on the same thread (including one about black Friday special offers on a sense of humour) I would have thought that most people would have taken the remark in the way it was meant.
However as always in certain left wing circles you find that some people who have no real argument will pick on a small detail then bang on about it until kingdom come.
I apologise for nothing. |

I do worry. If anyone wants to push the Brexit are they a perfect leader? Should we give them all the power? Would you support them no matter what they do? Hitler could have wanted to push Britain out of Europe. We should at least have some decency. |

Er. There is a clue in the name. "UK Independence Party".
It's a bit like saying the Green party should support more coal fired power stations and be the champions of nuclear power. |

Ok I got you. You say as long as the leader wants independence, they can be criminals, indecent or inhumane? So no limits? Of course you can also have a democratic leader with political sense?
I'll ask again but differently. What is the criteria to be Ukip leader? What characteristics? |

Do you put this level of thought into leaders of other parties? Did you question Theresa May's qualities and characteristics in tiny detail in a similar way when she became leader of the Conservative party? |

The newly elected leader is a man of the people who was previously a history lecturer. He is also a staunch Roman Catholic.

How does either being a history lecturer, or being Roman Catholic make you a perfect leader? These are not qualities you would generally hear if you ask someone to list the qualities you would find in a good leader. |

The same criteria as any other party, which would be as a champion of that party's core beliefs.
So would you have a Trotskyist as leader of the Tories? or a hedge fund manager as Labour leader? or the boss of a fracking company in charge of the Greens?
As for Nuttall. What crime has he been convicted of?
Other than as a matter of opinion where has he been indecent or inhumane?
I don't share all his beliefs, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't share all of May's either, and I'm certain I share very few (if any) of Corbyn's.
However I do think that Nuttall is probably the right man for the UKIP job (for now at least) and am prepared to give him a chance.

I wasn't accussing Paul of anything. I am neither for or against him as UKIP leader. Also I agree with what you said.
I'm checking that Ukip followers care about a leader following through rather than just pushing a Brexit. But if he is elected as Pm cab he function or deliver a Brexit? Or is he just a disrupter. Will just talk the talk. |

That remains to be seen. That is why I qualified my post with "for now at least"
I would never expect UKIP to form a government or any UKIP leader to be PM so whether or not I think he would make a good one is irrelevant.
What I expect him to do is to keep up the pressure on the government to deliver what the majority voted for and lead UKIP into the next election as a strong opposition force.
Because with Corbyn at the head of Labour, by god we will need one. |

"He is now the UKIP leader. He is even more right-wing than Farage. He wants to privatise the NHS, bring back the death penalty, is in favour of limiting abortions to the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, wants Christians to be able to discriminate against gays.

And resisting does not mean posting Stewart Lee's stand-up routine about Nuttall onto Facebook or Twitter and then thinking you have done your bit.

2. Who said that he wants to disciminate against the gays . Maybe he means that Christians should not be penalised for having Christian beliefs .

Eh?
Corbyn is/was ideologically kind of undecided on Europe and seems to be saying that since we voted to leave, we should leave.
Unlike, Blair, who seems to think that he should return to politics simply to block Brexit. |

I may disagree with much of what he says......but I fully defend his right to say it. As you have a right to speak against him.....it's called freedom of speech and comes with democracy!
We are not (yet) a totalitarian state....which you, OP, seem to be advocating more than Paul Nutall....? |

Got the same opinion of religions seeing casual sex/sex with more than one partner/adultery (with or without spousal consent) as an 'abomination'? |
