The End of UKIP?

Jump to: Newest in thread

By *LCC OP   Couple  over a year ago

Cambridge

In the last quarter UKIP only received £43,000 of donations which was less than half of what the BNP received, and miles behind the £2m+ received by both Labour and the Conservatives. Most of UKIPs income was services in kind from Aaron Banks, and they only received about £5,000 in cash.

With these abysmal finances as well as the £146,696 they have to pay back to the EU, is it the end of the line for UKIP?

Farage will soon be out of a job as an MEP, and there are rumours he is going to be an economic migrant in the US.

The last leader has not just stood down after 18 days, but has quit the party all together, as has another favourite for leader after getting in a punch up. It seems like they are in an even worse state than Labour!

NHS, benefits, social care etc. Ukip just fought a cause and got us a national survey. Other parties have implemented solutions that work. Of course they worsened it too. At least they have something to boast about.

Name something UKIP implemeted that benefited the country.

Referendum doesn't count because it's likely the conservatives will do it and take credit for if it succeeds.

Maybe parties should be funded from a centrally administered pot, based on some equally fair criteria - eg % of votes at qualifying elections.

Would get rid of lots of conflicts of interest.

They are a bunch of misogynistic racist oddballs.

I supported Brexit, not them.

There is no point in that party existing anymore.

I think something like this happens in some of the Scandinavian countries?

I would be in favour of this, but there should be a cap on the maximum.

As reprehensible as they may be, that is not what UKIP think. It is an organisation made up of individuals. It may be what one member thinks.

I hate coming to the defence of a party with which I disagree but you do need to get a grip.

No, I hate racists and racism. The downside of democracy is people who you despise being able to voice an opinion.

Laws on racial hatred etc must limit their ability to voice the worse of their opinions.

But alternative funding gives the advantage of limiting the power of wealthy bodies skewing policies of mainstream parties.

Ukip policy on education....just look at Theresa May's new stance on grammar schools (she stole it from Ukip). Environment, Ukip want to scrap vanity projects like HS2, and instead upgrade our existing rail network, nationalise toll roads such as the M6 Toll to ease congestion on roads, which would be better for the environment.

Yes I think they will dwindle away now. And that their voters will go back to there historic tenancies be that Blue, Red or other.

I think the future of the party will be decided by who becomes leader.

If I understand, Nuttall is more hard right tory-ish, whilst Evan's in more like a labour candidate but just one who thought out of the EU was best.

Someone who follows UKIP internal politics please correct me if I am way off the mark.

In a nutshell, I don't think anyone economically on right of the tories or similar will lead the party to displace labour.

A more left included UKIP which just wants out of the EU and to restrict immigration to a who do we actually need - I think that could actually become the main opposition or win.

Cant believe I'm saying this to you, but I agree - the two are usually heavily intertwined. Though it does benefit to have two distinct categories - eg, I would say increasing the number of green spaces for deliberate floodplain flooding in lower catchment areas of the watercourse is a strictly environmental policy. But it is one which directly impacts infrastructure and housing.

Suzanne Evans appeals more to the Tory minded wealthy section in the south East of the country and is more aligned with ex Tory ukip MP Douglas Carswell. Paul Nuttal comes from Liverpool and is in many ways going to appeal more to traditional working class labour voters in the north.

I think Paul Nuttal will win. He is already the deputy leader. He is putting himself forward as the unity candidate and as far as I know he gets on well with all factions within the party (Evans/Carswell on one side and Farage/Kassam/Banks on the other). Maybe Nuttal can act as a mediator between the 2 factions? I think he will last a few years as the leader of the party and will be Ukip leader for the next general election in 2020.

In a nutshell, I don't think anyone economically on right of the tories or similar will lead the party to displace labour.

A more left included UKIP which just wants out of the EU and to restrict immigration to a who do we actually need - I think that could actually become the main opposition or win.

Suzanne Evans appeals more to the Tory minded wealthy section in the south East of the country and is more aligned with ex Tory ukip MP Douglas Carswell. Paul Nuttal comes from Liverpool and is in many ways going to appeal more to traditional working class labour voters in the north.

Ah right, fair enough. Got it the wrong way round.

So who do you think will win...and how long will they last? :P

I wouldn't be surprised if the party were bankrupt by then with their low membership, tiny donations and with them having to pay back the money they stole from the EU.

"Can anyone say what Ukips policy on education is or the enviroment? They have no policy. They are a one trick pony and whoever takes over knows it's a poisoned chalice they sup from.

Does anyone know if UKIP know the difference between infrastructure and the environment?

You never heard of the concept of cause and effect then? Causes of infrastructure having effects on the environment. "

Is UKIPs environmental policy to get rid of windfarms near Trumps golf courses? Is that why they talked about it when Farage met Trump?

Nice to hear your pennies worth. Not a UKIP voter and with my personal experience with the UKIP crowd in real life as it were, they'd have to have a fantastic team and manifesto to get my vote.

That said it will be fascinating to see how this pans out

Name something UKIP implemeted that benefited the country.

Pray tell - what solutions have been implemented that work on the NHS, benefits, social care, etc? I take it all of these areas are working well then?

Without UKIP the referendum would not have happened - you do realise that don't you?

Well UKIP has certainly made it's mark, but at what cost? For example Mr Farage oftens quotes he has made himself redundant - should we feel sorry for him - he's only going to be getting a £71,000pa pension. I suppose he will be just about managing on that? Guess who's gonna be paying for it - US!!! Another case of "I'm all right Jack ..." Politicians look after themselves first and foremost.

The tories were worried at the last election, not that Ukip would take their seats but they would take enough of their votes to hand victory to Labour.

In private, and sometimes in public, they demanded that the Prime Minister give them something in their armoury to fight off the challenge – and that something was an EU referendum.

"In the last quarter UKIP only received £43,000 of donations which was less than half of what the BNP received, and miles behind the £2m+ received by both Labour and the Conservatives.

It seems like they are in an even worse state than Labour! . What about Cameron and Osborne, have they not jacked in like little babies, cos they didn't,t get their way.Farage got us the referendum, what have your Whiney lot done,"

The fact that Labour maybe fucked with Corbyn is not something UKIP should crow too much about. After all, if UKIP can't even win with its own leader standing in the most BREXIT constituency in the UK against Labour, a party that you claim is fucked, what real chance do they have in the rest of the country.

"Maybe parties should be funded from a centrally administered pot, based on some equally fair criteria - eg % of votes at qualifying elections.

Would get rid of lots of conflicts of interest.

Would you like to see the BNP tax payer funded?

No, I hate racists and racism. The downside of democracy is people who you despise being able to voice an opinion.

Laws on racial hatred etc must limit their ability to voice the worse of their opinions.

But alternative funding gives the advantage of limiting the power of wealthy bodies skewing policies of mainstream parties. "

We could solve that problem by limiting the maximum amount any one person could be aloud to contribute to maybe a few thousand, possibly even less. Aldo limit the amount any one company can contribute to 0.5% of turn over. There would also have to be some similar restrictions on charities and trade unions. I'm definitely not in favour of my tax money being spent on Greans, UKIP, BNP or even Labour. I could just about stomach it being spent on the Conservative or LibDems but still wouldn't support it or like it much.

Who really cares why he did it. He played the Euro skeptic card, as many PMs have done in the past from Wilson through Thatcher, Blair and Brown (British jobs for British workers), but lost it badly.

They have done the damage they set out to do. They have divided the country down the middle. They have managed to release a tide of racism and xenophobia across the county and have managed to force us out of the EU.

I just hope that if it all goes tits up that the first EU citizens expelled from the country will be farages wife, and that the EU refuse to grant the shit an entry visa of any kind. Yep...

But brexit has still to remove her from the UK and permanently separate her from her children and leave Nige to explain to his children why they are not allowed see their mum until they are 18 when they get to choose Briton or the EU...

To paraphrase Churchill:

From Muckle Flugga in the Shetlands to La Rocque on Jersey and Gibraltar in the Mediterranean, a kipper wall is descending across the Continent.

Whatever the fate of UKIP, I will never forgive the BBC and Question Time in particular for detoxifying and sanitising Farage by constantly putting him on TV, casting him as the representative of anyone who had any doubts about the main parties, playing along with his "man-of-the-people" routine and rarely subjecting him to real questioning.

Did they ever even bring up the letter from his teacher who wanted to block him from being a prefect because he viewed him as a fascist even then and had encountered him singing hitler youth songs?

Banks and the kip-tards have reached a point of no-reconciliation. they have publically dis-owned each other. there is no possible chance that the nuttzi party can live on without arron wanks money .... and arron wank has found himself without his own personal political party to do his alt-reich bidding ... they will now take they're rightful place in the shit-pit of history

Lol, Aaron Banks is of course free to do what ever he likes. His objective was to get the UK out of the EU and he helped to achieve it, I think he can look back and be very satisfied with his contribution.

Paul Nuttall made a speech in Dorset a couple of weeks ago, (it's on youtube) and in it he said while on his short break after the Stoke by election defeat he talked to several Ukip party donors (Aaron Banks is not the only one), and they all agreed on a long term plan to fund the party for the foreseeable future. Even if Aaron Banks decides to leave Ukip and stop donating, Ukip will continue to exist and will continue to be funded by other people. Some of the old Ukip figures like Aaron Banks me be on their way out but this give new opportunities for other people to step up. The new deputy leader of Ukip Peter Whittle for example has been doing a great job. It looks like Ukip are here to stay.

Maybe we should refer you back to the OP, in the previous quarter UKIP only had £46k income, compare to more than double that for the BNP, with Labour and Conservatives getting more than £2m each. 90% of that funding came from Banks, how will UKIP survive on £20,000 a year? That's not enough to employ 1 full time member of staff let alone give them an office to work from!

Stay around and hold the tories feet to the fire on Brexit. If the tories start to backslide on brexit then ukip will be waiting in the wings to capitalise on it. On policies Teresa May and the tories keep stealing Ukip's policies. Two ukip policies the tories have stolen so far....

Leave the EU - ukip policy

Bring back grammar schools - ukip policy.

It's ukip policy to cut the foreign aid budget, scrap the HS2 vanity project, nationalise toll roads and make them free to use, and abolish hospital car parking charges, I wonder how long it'll be before the tories steal those?

"Leave the EU - ukip policy"

As I said... no policies

Maybe I'm being harsh. Maybe UKIP have some actual content in some of their other policies such as the Grammar School one. Maybe UKIP actually had a fully worked out plan on how to leave the EU... I mean they've had, what, 25 years to think about it? Maybe the Tories just didn't see it. Maybe it is just on display at the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying beware of the leopard.

We were told by the EU yesterday Britain is still a full member of the EU until we leave in 2019, that means Ukip is still the Uk's largest party of MEP's in Brussels until 2019. Ukip won the last European MEP elections in the UK in 2014, returning more MEP's for Ukip than the Conservatives and Labour. As the Uk's biggest party in the European parliament that is why ukip are on Question Time every week and a regular feature in the news.

Yes, but...

'Mark Reckless, the former Tory MP who defected to Ukip, has quit the party to support the Conservative group in the Welsh assembly, where he now sits.

Reckless’s decision follows the move last month by Douglas Carswell, who defected to Ukip from the Conservatives and remains an MP, to quit the party and sit in the Commons as an independent.

The move had been expected by Ukip after Reckless cut contact with the party in recent days. In a statement posted on his Twitter account, Reckless said he was joining the Conservative group in the Welsh assembly.'
