"Anyone who puts faith in - or even gives a modicum of credibility to - the words of politicians, is surely destined for disappointment. We all knew that the 350 billion was an example of hyperbole as the figure was accepted as being gross rather than nett; all the examples of how the brexit bonus could be spent were just that - examples, suggestions, options, hype. The figure was widely debunked as being an over selective use of statistics and it is just not credible to suggest that this could have swayed the vote. So why are remainers still banging on about it. Surely you didn't believe it? Surely you don't think that leave voters were swayed by it? If you do, your name is probably Tim Fascist (sorry, Farron), a man labouring under the delusion that he is genuinely liberal and believes in democracy. Likewise, the people marching in USA against the result of their general election are protesting against what? Democracy? It was a fair vote, folks. The referendum offered the British people the first opportunity in decades to truly - and in a properly democratic framework of a referendum - influence the future of their country, in a way that general elections fail to do. In the USA, the people turned their general election into a de facto referendum on politics as usual. They elected to ignore the manifest flaws of a candidate who was generally regarded as less than ideal but who offered an end to politics as usual. In both cases, the majority expressed their resentment at the collective received wisdom of the self-regarding professional politicians, administering a proper kick up the rear. Now, the jobsworth politicians in Europe are waking up to the inevitable course of the whirlwind of change veering towards them, and they don't look forward to the prospect of judgement by the voters and the end of the comfortable existence to which they have grown accustomed. On brexit, these eurofools continue to expostulate from their parallel universe on the sanctity of the single market and its accompanying requirements for freedom of migration, as if German industrialists, French food & wine producers and Spanish trawler owners will allow them to scupper their trade! A binary referendum is the only example of pure democracy which is ever offered to the electorate. As the gold standard of voting options, its weight requires that we should all accept the clear result. The remainers should respect the result and come to terms with it, while our elected representatives must not attempt to subvert the clearly expressed will of the majority by seeking to water down brexit by spurious tactics in parliament. That would be a journey into dangerous territory." Most tell us the truth, only it is so hidden in their obstructions that we fail to see it. | |||
