i'll make the decision on whether to stay up all night dependent on what the result is in florida....

if clinton wins... we can all go to bed early...

if trump wins.. it could be a long night...

I fear for America either way.

Trump wins then they're doomed.

Clinton wins and trump fans will be in uproar and who knows what state the country will turn into.

I hope they're prepared either way.

The Tantric Tea Shop

It seems less the result but more the process!

Saying that, the thought of Putin, that N Korean bloke Kim Il Sung??? and Trump with fingers on the button is scary!

The process, as in the UK re concern over trust and representation!

The process has to be democracy but you need the objective facts for that process.

Representation....if you are elected to a state/city/town and your views contrast with the plebian views!

Brexit was flawed, the US election has been flawed. hopefully objectivity and true representation can evolve from this.... but I do not hold my breath

Do you think he could even reunite the nation? So many people despise him and I don't think there's any coming back from some of the things he's said.

I find Americans to be more expressive than Brits, here there was loads going off about brexit prior to the referendum, it happened (so to speak) and people carried on with their daily lives, despite how passionate those were about remaining. I just think a lot would need to happen for America to reunite, but clearly that's going by what I've seen on the television/radio over here.

What time do polls close in US elections? It feels like the results come in a lot quicker than ours.

I've got too many meetings and too much work to do tomorrow to stay up for the swingometer, sadly.

varies from state to state....

so for example...the first ones of the key states will be florida, Virgina, New hampshire and Georgia close at 7pm (midnight our time.)

Ohio and North Carolina close at 7.30pm...

because a lot of it has been done via early/absentee voting.... we may get results back fairly early....

Part off me thinks Hilary Clinton will pull off the victory but who knows with how unpredictable life is what the outcome will be..

If Hilary wins she goes on to be the first female president off america and the democrats will continue to rule but with different techniques then Obama has been..

However if trump wins then god knows what kind off whacky things will come out off the wood work with half the things he has promised or will probably make happen..

either way we shall see what will happen

Aside from that and occasionally browsing here and the chat rooms not much else..

So it's reported in the US that the Bushes have voted for Hillary????

The Radio 4 lady is really flirting with the guys she's interviewing! Sounds like she's fishing for a shag!

And are any guys wanking over Hillary?

"Pardon me for being a dumb woman but, if Trump wins, doesn't congress -or whatever their equivalent of Parliament is-have to okay anything he has promised to do, if he becomes President?"

Yes, I'm sure Fabio will correct me but there are plenty of checks n' balances on the executive - Congress, Senate & Supreme Court, for instance - in the domestic and financial spheres.

Where the President has total control is foreign policy

According to Wiki: the President of the United States negotiates treaties with foreign nations, but treaties enter into force if ratified by two-thirds of the Senate.

So, that means they have to okay everything?

okay.... trump wins indiana and kentucky.. no surprise

clinton wins vermont... no surprise...

virginia and South Carolina... to early to call... means they don't have vote totals enough to call...

Georgia.... to close to call...... this may be the headline so far... clinton was eyeing this up with arizona, but in the end didn't put the TV money and appearences...

so 2 thoughts so far....

1) clinton may consider georgia a "lost oppotunity"

2) if georgia is close.... that doesn't bode well for trump in next door florida......

Yes and no, Obama's had to go around the senate alot because the Republican party decided to stone wall everything they could, and their system is designed for 2 parties to work together, hence why they've had government shutdowns and things. And repubs had the majority in the senate.

Trump would likely face more opposition
