£22bn in Efficiency Savings

Hunt has told the NHS that they need to find £22bn in Efficiency Savings by 2020, cutting into an already cash strapped NHS.

But I thought they were going to get an extra £350,000,000 every week, so I can't quite understand it.

I think the truth is no one knows for sure how much we will save from Brexit ?

I think we will , but until we have left I think it's best to assume it will be Nill and if we do it's a bonus

I think a lot can be saved in admin at the nhs

A pen doesn't make me better

Guess you need to write to your MP and encourage them to trigger and support article 50, then work full ahead for a much quicker than 2 year withdrawal, remember 2 years is only a rough guide, we can exit much sooner, or well over 2 years demending on how prepaired we are.

The sooner all MP's back brexit and push forward article 50 then the sooner savings will be made, and the sooner we will have a much more efficient health service

It is well reported how London NHS hospitals are suffering from "Health Tourists

Health tourism costs the NHS an estimated £2billion a year. The Department of Health said all trusts are legally obliged to check patient eligibility and recover charges, Just 20 per cent was recovered and debt collection firms are being used to claim the rest

Hospital bosses were forced to act after 900 foreign expectant mothers used the NHS for free, even heart op's costing up to £11,000

But then again the UK and the majority of its population including many on here are a soft touch, lets find a tree to hug.

As you keep harping on about, we haven't yet left the EU, so until we do there are no savings... As you should well know.

The £350M was not, and was never, as you know, promised.

As was said above, the sooner we trigger article 50 the better for all. So Just accept it and support it.

Or move abroad to the EU where the sun always shines and the streets are paved with gold.

The problem is 2 fold.

1. Control immigration so the nhs isn't overrun by open door policy

2. Close the loopholes used by big business to avoid paying tax

It's not immigration ;

Just have the NHS do what it is supposed to do ; treat those whose entitled; make those who aren't, pay.

It's what every other country does perfectly successfully.

I dont know how much time you spend in hospitals _lcc but unfortunately in the last couple of years i have spent a lot of time at the royal in derby o,one of the largest hospitals in the country and simultaneously is one of the best run and worst run hospitals going, it has been running the 7 day service that hunt wants for nearly five years now but has an over reliance on agency staff and pays way over the odds for for goods and services thanks to deals struck by the last labour government give me a few hours with their accounts and i could definitely save them money

The argument about EU migrants being a strain to the NHS is a nonsense, the vast majority of EU migrants are of working age and relatively few EU pensioners have come here, and it's the elderly population that causes the most strain on the NHS.

There is a well documented problem within the NHS of attracting young British people into nursing, particularly from young females, and it's getting worse year on year.

Also many registered nurses are leaving the NHS and are working in the more lucrative nursing agency sector, hospitals are spending Billions on agency nurses.....there is also an urgent need for hospitals to take a serious look at their purchasing departments, again Billions is being wasted through poor purchasing practices.

Squander and waste is at epidemic proportions in 'our' NHS. This wastefulness is lead by senior staff across all professional disciplines, medical, nursing, pharmacy etc. Cheaper and equally efficient options exist across the supplier base yet many NHS primary and secondary care establishments continue to run a budget deficit when obvious savings can be made. Often the excuse used against implementing these savings is the time it would take to manage the process, which is valid only so far. When making a simple switch from one brand or supplier to another can save millions at a stroke then we the tax payers deserve and should demand better from NHS management.

Your error, OP, is assuming that Brexiters were stupid enough to believe the £35m per week claim. It was widely condemned at the time.

I would assume that, as a Remainer, you did not base your decision on Mr Osborne's wild prediction that by 2030 the average UK household would be worse off by the sum of £4,300?

This is old news. Simon Stevens set this target in 2014 when he predicted a £30 billion shortfall. 22 billion would be needed in savings in addition to 8 billion "extra" funding from government.

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer are you CLCC. What is it you don't understand that we can't fully leave the EU until 2019 at the earliest, given the 2 year time period after article 50 is invoked.

Nope: the UK will have to negotiate reciprocal agreements with each EU nation; or if it's lucky, be allowed to continue on the EHIC scheme.

Well I'm smarter than you as I know that 2020 is after 2019, so why still cutting for a year when we are meant to be increasing the budget by £350m per week?

Yep; though that's not the EHIC, that's thecS1 scheme ( Workers S1 for overseas workers - the ones " posted" to the EU by their companies; and Retirement S1s for pensioners living in the EU)

There was a reciprocal agreement before the EU, as it happens:

The government may remove this facility for those living overseas ; which would be a bit counterproductive, as pensioners would simply claim reimbursement of their medical costs back from the UK.
