In a statement, Mr Farage said: " I deeply regret that following an altercation that took place at a meeting of UKIP MEPs this morning that Steven Woolfe subsequently collapsed and was taken to hospital. His condition is serious."

He is being named all over social media, but not confirmed so best not to say anything just yet. Suffice to say he has a military background and undertook Royal Marines Commando training.

Could face arrest now for assault or much worse if Woolfe doesn't pull through. Seemingly Woolfe was the victom of a number of punches from which he fell and banged his head which resulted in a brain bleed.

All politics aside - this is simply dreadful.

Dreadful indeed. I like Stephen Woolfe and think he would be a great leader for Ukip. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Guido Fawkes has all but named the guy that punched him on twitter. His name is quite apt. Apparently was because Stephen Woolfe was thinking of defecting to the tories. I hope the guy pulls through this.

Says on sky news now that no assault had been reported to police and the police were not looking for anyone unless an official complaint had been made.

He's gone from fighting for his life to sitting up in his bed and chatting in a few hours.....coupled with no police involvement smells like an attempt to keep themselves in the news, much like the UKIP leadership farce, they just don't get it that their work is done....they are no longer relevant to UK politics, they only ever were a protest organisation.

This guy is the favourite to become next UKIP leader and his response to a colleague having a go at him verbally was to ask him out for a fight?...

The fact that he came of worst is possibly karma for being so aggressive in the first place... But is this what politics is about and is that the kind of guy anyone would want as a Leader?

I'm just glad he is ok and is now recovering to be honest, although not at all surprised some on here who seemed to show real concern for his well being earlier are now attempting to attack him.

As for quick recovery, (and the police looking for suspect) blame the media who seemed to have reported rumours rather than hard facts earlier in the day.

UKIP are finished, they were made up initially of disgruntled Tories who wanted out of Europe, and later on were joined by many who were fed the false promises and downright lies regarding immigration leading up to the referendum.....when it becomes starkly apparent in a few years time that EU immigrants were the least of their problems then people will regret their support of Farage.

I think this incident together with the recent resignation could be the end of them. Hard to see what appeal they have following Brexit.

Ukip are far from finished, as Neil Hamilton (who is leader of the Ukip group in the Welsh assembly) explained earlier today on sky news. In many Welsh and Northern areas of England where no one would ever dream of voting Tory, Ukip are the new challenge to Labour. Ukip finished a strong 2nd place in many of these Labour seats at the last general election. Now since then Miliband has gone and Labour have lurched to the far left with Corbyn, many of those old Labour voters won't vote for a bunch of Trotskyists and Marxists now and it will be Ukip who will pick up those votes, especially more so with someone like Stephen Woolfe as leader of the party (mixed race and came from a working class background and was brought up on Moss Side in Manchester).

Come on don't act like no politician has ever thrown a punch before. John Prescott (2 jabs) ring any bells? What about the Scottish Labour MP Eric Joyce who was thrown out of a Paliamentary bar in Westminster for a d*unken brawl and was later arrested and convicted of assault. Eric Joyce then later resigned from the Labour party.

So please do spare us all the holier than thou routine.

As for Neil Hamilton being a loser, well he won his seat on the Welsh assembly (along with 6 other Ukip candidates) earlier this year.

He has got to be the sleaziest politician in living memory, or at least one of the worst."

Funnily enough, from someone who has met him and his lovely wife on more than one occasion, he is absolutely charming with a wonderful (although quite dry) sense of humour.

He got caught out on "cash for questions" but in his case it wasn't really even cash. Just a few nights in Paris as the guest of a certain famous hotel owner who then knifed him in the back when he didn't get what he wanted.

Yes it was a misjudgement on his part but to call him the "sleaziest politician in living memory" when there are the likes of Jackboot Jacqui the famous home flipper and porn movie on expenses customer (among others) is really pushing it a bit far.

As for the period when he and his wife were making TV appearances? Remember that after the court case it was pretty much the only way they could make a living.

Therefore by the grace of god go us all.

what do you call a party where one of its own MP's feels the need to turn up at their own conference with a bodyguard in tow because she is Jewish? Two blokes squaring up outside is a bit childish and hardly compares to that. Ruth Smeeth by the way

Pro-Commonwealth huh?

Like when councillor Roxanne Duncan said she had a "problem with people with negroid features”

Or when UKIP candidate Ken Chapman said “islam is a cancer that needs eradicating multiculturism does not work in this country clear them all off to the desert with their camals that’s their way of life.”

Or UKIP councillor Dave Small said “I visiting the city of Birmingham recently and felt like a foreigner in the city of my birth, all around me I could hear the sound of jabbering in an alien voice … we also have the Pakistani’ and the Somali’s. Tell me Mr Cameron Why? the men wear their Pyjamas.”

UKIP MEP Godfrey Bloom famously said that the UK should stop providing aid to "bongo bongo Land”

Or UKIP council candidate James Elgar said "ThingsAsianBoysDo groom and rape underage white girls, stab and rob innocent old white people, bomb innocent white people”

or UKIPs Andre Lampitt who said “Most Nigerians are generally bad people… I grew up in Africa and dare anyone to prove me wrong.” Nigeria is a commonwealth country

Another UKIP candidate, Joseph Quirk said “Well, I reckon dogs are more intelligent, better company and certainly better behaved than most Muslims.” Think that will go down well in Pakistan?

Or Aiden Benoit, another UKIP candidate who said “makes me sick the foreigners are lazy no every time how to get out of work cry rasits when it doesent go their way. they fill up houses, and the NHS and bring criminals here.

“We dont need them! theirs lots of Enlish people that wont a job… send them all back.” (I kept his original spellings )

Or how about a relatively local one to me, UKIP councillor Robert Brown, who said that Muslims were “evil” and that “They need to become christians and I will do all that I can to help them to do so.”

But maybe you will say these are just lowly members of the party, not the views of the people at the top, well how about most recent leader, Diane James MEP who said “On 1 January 2014 the floodgates will open for Bulgarian and Romanian citizens [to come to Britain]. We are not just talking about pressure on services from immigration but also, and I have to say it, the crime associated with Romanians.”

And what did he do? Exterminate, steal property, promote fear and hatred. People claim to be many things but are actually faking. Theresa May claimed to be in favour of the EU until she realised she could grab power. Now she is an enthusiatic supporter of Big Brexit, giving wings to nasty little bigotd like Rudd to promote policies that will isolate Britain and take the UK back to the dark ages

"Unconfirmed reports that he was punched by another MEP and subsequently collapsed!

But which one?

He is being named all over social media, but not confirmed so best not to say anything just yet. Suffice to say he has a military background and undertook Royal Marines Commando training.

Could face arrest now for assault or much worse if Woolfe doesn't pull through. Seemingly Woolfe was the victom of a number of punches from which he fell and banged his head which resulted in a brain bleed.

All politics aside - this is simply dreadful."

He walked out of the meeting. He later collapsed in a corridor...at which point he banged his head.

Under the law in force there then no charges or criminal action will or indeed can be taken unless he himself makes a complaint....unlikely.

"Haha, you really should read up on your history. The Nazi party was a fascist party (extreme right wing). They gave themselves the name of national socialists but their policies were not 'socialist', they were populist, jingoistic, hated and blamed outsiders.... just like Ukip

Seems you have swallowed hook line and sinker the media smear campaign against Ukip. If you looked deeper into it you would find Ukip are pro commonwealth so most of what you just said is complete tosh.

"

Roxanne Duncan? Idiot.

Ken Chapman: Islam is cancer? In the real world today it is, whether you like it or not.

Dave Small does have a point. In some parts of the country English is a language spoken by the minority. London is officially a prime example.

Godfrey Bloom? Bless, a bit of a dinosaur and could have picked his words a bit better but he did make a valid point.

James Elgar also made a valid point. Rochdale, Rotherham, Oxford anyone?

Andre Lampitt? Hmm Nigeria, I wonder where all those spam emails about billionaires in plane crashes come from?

Joseph Quirk? My dog is better behaved than the unruly mob who got kicked off a Monarch flight the other day. And my dog would never play the race card if I punished him.

Aiden Bendoit? See above. Playing the race card is the last refuge of the scoundrel.

Robert Brown? Just as bad as the Muslim bigots.

Last but not least, Diane James. So 97% of all ATM crime in London committed by Romanians (not Romanians per se, but ROMA) is a myth? Scotland Yard would disagree.

I agree he is maybe no a Hitler.....he isn't that intelligent. But he does have an "army" of thugs. I've friends....labour supporters, members and activist/campaigners of many years standing who are being hounded out of the party they have loved by "momentum" (the old militant tendency) bully boys. We saw that Derek Hatton reared his ugly head again at the last conference in Liverpool. Who overturned his lifetime ban from the party?

It's clear that there's an ugly power battle going on for control of Ukip - on one side is backed by Aaron Banks and includes Woolfe who are particularly keen on going after the Northern and Midland post-industrial anti-immigrant vote; on the other the more Southern based libertarian ex-Tories like Carswell and Hamilton.

It's always been rather ridiculous that these two fundamentally opposite wings, representing wholly different outlooks, were under the same banner - but they were held together by the immediate goal of getting out of the EU and the political nouse of Farage.

They'll split pretty soon I reckon - that's not to say that some other similar parties won't spring from the well, but Ukip are gonners.

That is the best summary I have read anywhere. I just hope the tory party can get on woth things now instead of pandering to far right and racist sympathisers. I am fairly left wing but we need a sensible tory party they are going to be in power for a good while and would rather they don't screw things up for the next 10years or so.

Haha sod off, where are these 'thugs' and who are they?

You suggesting John has people on the street roughing people up saying 'we're going to put money into the NHS and consult the spending arrangements with the people who actually run the public services on a day to day basis, you WILL vote for us'.

If you are on about a small minority of hard 'lefties' in/supporting labour at the moment - yes they are doing a poor job at representing the party, but you get that in every party.

Look at the hard right wingers who drifted from the BNP or EDL and supported UKIP. All you have to do is youtube channels which are pure UKIP propaganda channels, read the comments, to see the hatred and the desire for a repatriation militia.

Agreed, had a discussion with a British Jewish friend around this and even he says that there is a difference between anti-semitism and simply criticising how another nation - which just so happens to be a Jewish state, treats non-Jews in it's territory, violates human rights, and is expansionist.

Accurate and bang on, I explained this to a friend of mine who briefly drifted to UKIP, explained the political terms you laid out, and he quickly realised that UKIP was in his phrase 'a one use party which would go the same way labour is going, once the objective of leaving the EU is done'.

Once he understood it he questioned why UKIP constantly banged on about the NHS when the original supporters of theirs didn't like the idea of universal health care. Quickly worked out they were baiting disgruntled working class people.

"The Nazi party in this country is lead by Corbyn, his methods of trying to gert into power mirror those of the Nazis,he has many thugs on the streets.

No, they don't, they really don't. I'm no fan of Corbyn, but Hitler he is not.

Hmm maybe not Jeremy but John McDonnell ?

Scary ! Very sinister !

Haha sod off, where are these 'thugs' and who are they?

You suggesting John has people on the street roughing people up saying 'we're going to put money into the NHS and consult the spending arrangements with the people who actually run the public services on a day to day basis, you WILL vote for us'.

If you are on about a small minority of hard 'lefties' in/supporting labour at the moment - yes they are doing a poor job at representing the party, but you get that in every party.

ye they should be lynched eh?

Nope, I don't believe is execution or any of that backwards bollocks. "

"

If you cant see a problem with those comments, it says a lot about you. A lot.

I don't even see them as relevant to UK politics anymore, they are and always were a two policy protest party and to be fair to them their work is done on one of their policies.....the other is far darker.
