Last week MG announced that it was ceasing production at its Longridge plant and cited devaluation of the pound and future uncertainty brought about by Brexit.
In the same week a number of American banks in the City of London demanded clarity over the future relationship with the EU and in particular pas sporting rights and suggested that they would unilaterally start relocating in the absence of clarity.
Today we start the week with this ...
"Reuters"....
Three-quarters of British company bosses are considering moving operations abroad following the vote to leave the European Union, according to a survey published on Monday.
76 percent said they were considering moving either their headquarters or their operations outside Britain because of the June 23 "Brexit" vote.
"CEOs are reacting to the prevailing uncertainty with contingency planning," said Simon Collins, KPMG UK chairman.
The June vote has created uncertainty over Britain's future economic and trade relationship with the European Union.
John Nelson, chairman of Lloyd's of London, told Reuters last week that the insurance market would be ready to move some of its business to the EU as soon as Britain invoked Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty, which triggers the start of exit from the bloc.
More than 20 European business associations and companies interviewed by Reuters said they backed their governments' position that Britain's banking sector can only enjoy EU market access post-Brexit if the country still follows the bloc's rules.
It's ok though because Brexit means Brexit and we just have to stay positive because the country has spoken.... |

People are living in a fantasy land if they think that companies won't relocate some or all of their businesses abroad as a result of Brexit.
As well as businesses, we are going to lose talent as well that will limit growth in our economy. |

Maybe MG should ask Jaguar how to run a business then. Or any other car manufacturer for that matter. Brexit is a convenient excuse for shit cars and bad management. And the rest is selective conjecture at best. Of course some people are going to come out with shite like that, until it happens, which it won't, it means nothing. Follow the money and the facts |

It is not a question of if the Eurozone will collapse but when. People will not invest/move to the EU area at least until the uncertainty there has been resolved and the UK will remain the safest bet |

this is getting boring now, you 2 deserve each other
Big deal again you found some more forecasts espousing doom for the UK.
Now someone else will bring their spiel about how good we are doing.
It's like you cant wait for the next bit of negativity for you to pounce on and post on here.
Is that all you have, cant you find anything positive to say or is it all doom and, from mainly you OP and your partners in crime CLCC.
Theres a challenge for you see if you can find anything positive to say regarding the UK leaving the EU.
Same challenge to the other side as well, see if you can find something negative to say...... maybe that way you might have an inkling about were the other side is coming from...
Probably not

Realistically, either way, in or out, the UK will be successful but I think we will have more success standing on our own.
We used to be a great proud nation, some of us are still proud, others think we are worthless, and I disagree with these "others" |

I don't know exactly what they were producing at Longbridge because if my memory serves me correctly they were laying off 25 people, but they were keeping the design site open which employs a lot more.
And lets be honest, they shipped all the machinery out to China within weeks so I can only imagine that the deal struck with the government was that they had to produce cars here and this was their way of fulfilling their side of the contract. |

All one can really say at the moment is that the prognostications of disaster have thus far proved wide of the mark. Myself I would be surprised if there were not some negative outcomes at least in the short term. That's why I voted to stay, despite not having any real enthusiasm for the EU as it is presently constituted. The question for me is whether likely losses in respect of those organisations pointed mainly into Europe will be balanced by the opportunities unquestionably there to develop trade with the more dynamic economies in the rest of the world.
I recently had an interesting talk with with an overseas businessman. He commented that many people still tend to think in terms of geographical contiguity, which is almost meaningless in today's world. It's not just the "invisibles"- now a huge part of the economy anyway- where trade is globalised, but containerisation has meant that manufactured goods are virtually as easily traded worldwide as with neighbours. If the world when we joined the Common Market was as it is now the arguments would look very different. Then it was clearly advantageous to us to abandon the trading networks we then had- with the Commonwealth and EFTA - to get into the then dynamic and growing markets of Europe.
It's very different now. Whether we can reestablish those former markets is to me a bigger question than whether we can negotiate some single market deal to keep some overseas banking and maybe other investors happy- though that is not unimportant. |

They are trying to say that imported parts are now more expensive. Nobody else seems to be having a problem with that and you're right of course it is, which is why sales of MG cars have risen post referendum. This is something which was planned ages ago |

But the idea of building a car is that you sell the finished product for a lot more than the cost of its parts! I get that some costs have gone up but then it should be easier to sell more so I'm surprised if the net result isn't neutral or positive.
As for 'economic uncertainty', that's quite a lose term too. No country really has economic certainty, UK still ranks very well on the best countries to invest in based on our legal system, access to finance, timezone, relative political stability etc |

It doesn't really matter about MG closing, it's only 50 or so jobs.....
As for thecAmerican banks, doves really need their American spin bankers and the lost tax will be made up by all the things weevil export to the rest of the world.
As for companies moving out of the U.K. to the EU, so what. We don't need their tax anyway and we can trade with everyone else.
There you go, I made some shit up to make it positive.
As for the EU collapsing that is simply arrogant and wishful thinking from a Brit who feels the need for vindication. The EU will not collapse. It will continue to evolve as it had done since it was formed according to the democratic will of its people. The EU is different today than it was 10 years ago and it will be different in ten years time to what it is today.
Let's be clear, there are a signigicant number of people in this country who do not want to lose the rights and privileges that the EU has provided and they will continue to fight to retain those privileges. These people vary from business leaders to ordinary people. They cannot be ignored because of a divisive referendum that was swung with a less than 4% majority. The last decisive referendum in 1975 had a majority of more than 34%. |

So a Longridge car plant is closing again. Would this be the same plant that used to make Rovers? If so then no change there, it's always closing down then opening again.
The U.K. will be better off because of BREXIT, it will take time, and there will be ups and downs. |

There is nothing good to say about the Brexit vote so why make shit up saying there is? Not a single world or commonwealth leader believe it to be a good thing. Not a single credible economist or economic researcher believe it to be a good thing and already banks and insurance companies are planning a large scale relocation into the EU because there is no clarity over passporting rights.
Don't worry that the financial services sector are the biggest contributor of taxes in the UK we can soon replace it by selling something to someone else on the other side of the world TBA
