I think they create division and our country is divided enough already.

Edinburgh.

It's an outrage that even a pound of public money or time in class should be wasted talking about some nut's invisible friend.

Only a racist/bigot could assume that the question wasn't applicable to schools of all faiths.

not really..... but thanks for calling me a racist/bigot....;)

just asking because in the last set of figures that were release on the subject back in 2011

"In 2011, about one third of the 20,000 state funded schools in England were faith schools, approximately 7,000 in total, of which 68% were Church of England schools and 30% were Roman Catholic. There were 42 Jewish, 12 Muslim, 3 Sikh and 1 Hindu faith schools."

which would mean 98-99% of them were christian.....

so much question would be if you... or the OP have a problem with the amount of "christian based" faith schools... or is it the other 70 ish that gets the bloody boiling....

full discloure... i am a product of a catholic school education....

I personally would live to see the end of all faith schools as I see it as irelivent to the practical education that we need to be able to get on in later life.

If you want to learn about religion then there are plenty of ways outside of school.

"Who here think that the idea of more faith schools is a bad Idea ?"

I'm a capitalist so I think a parents right to choose is the most important factor.

Nothing about comprehensive schools makes Britain more inclusive or less divided. Attending one just made me realise how much chavs go about creating their own problems and the best thing is to move as far away from them as possible.

I probably would have had more sympathy for them / be more inclusive if I'd been a proper champagne socialist and gone to a grammar school where I could let Karl Marx tell me about the lives of the poor and the route of their problems.

So it's the same as art, music and sport then?

My brother in law is a teacher at a catholic school, he got himself christened/baptized (whatever you call it) because apparently you can only climb the ladder so far before it becomes a barrier to promotion

I think you'd class a faith school as one which places specific religious requirements on entry.

Fabio did you find there was an overtly religious tone to the school or was it more a case of parents/students not taking the faith entirely sincerely (for want of a better phrase)?.

There is nothing but the illusion of choice for the millions of people who live in the countryside. If you live in the country the only school you can go to is the local one. There is no choice because you can't get to any other school.

Well in economic theory, that's what we call 'tough shit'. If you want the benefits of living in butt fuck nowhere then you have to accept the public services are going to be somewhat lacking. The reason the countryside is the countryside is because not a lot of people live there.

Before you were saying how ineffective markets were, now you seem to be suggesting they are good. What else should be a market economy? Healthcare? Defence? Social security?

Not ineffective, subject to bias in some areas. However, rural education services are unlikely to be overlooked due to those biases.

In answer to your other questions, healthcare- yes, with state backed insurance for all, defence forces - no, defence equipment - yes, social security is a tax so not sure what you were asking there?

Faith schools are alright providing you want your children to grow up paranoid about sex or wanking, confused about their origins, sexist, racist, bigoted and homophobic.... But boy they'll have grounding!!!

.

.

As a product of a faith school I can firmly state I wouldn't send my fucking dog to one, I've rarely met a catholic priest I could trust with my dog let alone my fucking kids...

Paranoid delusional schizophrenic teachers who just can't wait to brainwash children with utter utter bollocks, while the parents are akin to that lot who sent their kid off with Micheal Jackson for a weekend in gay Paris...I don't mean to be harsh but really... It's the 21st fucking century. Move a fucking long

Children should be educated in all faiths in school that way they will not be as ignorant as so many are.

They shuld learn and understand that religion is about freedom and people can practice what they wish.

This is however a Christian country and all children should learn about the true meaning of it about peace and love.

Something missing in this nasty little world we live in ,full if biggots and ignorance.

somewhere out there

At the end of the day your personal feelings about religion should play second fiddle to the quality of your kids education. From what I've seen and also read, Catholic schools are some of the most well run inclusive schools in this country. A country where weer could do well to restore more traditional practices to education.

No that's not quite the same thing is it? Music art and sport are all inclusive.

Religion is is more of a of exclusive club as in if you don't belive then you don't belong.

My son goes to a college and the college is a catholic one.

We are not Catholics but its compolsory to attend a religious lesson even though he has no intrest in it.

One of my friends wanted to marry a catholic but he had been devorced so he had to one get the devorced anald by the Catholic Church this involved having interviews and I had to go to one as well as a witness.

Then convert to Catholicism pay money to the church for the privilege of this.

He was skint so was allowed to pay in instalments but they would not complete everything until the last payment had gone through .

Talk about a piss take

Personally I don't think religion has any place in a school of any faith, because that's exactly what it is "faith" , it's not a fact driven subject, there's nothing that can be proven about religion as to actually learn anything concrete from it.

Religous beliefs should be taught from the home if the household is religious plus there's no shortage of places of worship either but school's shouldn't be divided between religious beliefs.

Now a school having a lesson dedicated to teaching the idea behind different religious beliefs is fine but they should never try telling kids of any age it's anywhere near a fact, praying to a god etc

All school's should be totally neutral of religious ideology & leave religon to the families there own way.

If you really want to teach your children that when you masterbate you should go and confess it to the priest because it's a sin... Then fine send your children to a faith school and brag to your friends about fucking great the results at the school are!... Personally I don't want to teach my kids homophobia... But why is it dad?... because the good book says it is... Now shut up and read revelations

As a lefty, you should really learn more about saying one thing and doing another.

I'd rather my son got told whacking off was wrong and went home and did it anyway. Rather than what I got told but my comprehensive school maths teacher (an atheist, communist), that amassing wealth was immoral and wrong. Well there's a great example for kids, don't try hard as school kids because if you do well then you're putting everyone else down!

l like grammar schools as well. My granparents passe their 11 plus exams and got a private education that thy otherwise couldn't.

Equal opportunity that rewards brains over the leftist dream of equal outcomes.

"I personally would live to see the end of all faith schools as I see it as irelivent to the practical education that we need to be able to get on in later life.

If you want to learn about religion then there are plenty of ways outside of school.

So it's the same as art, music and sport then?

No that's not quite the same thing is it? Music art and sport are all inclusive.

Religion is is more of a of exclusive club as in if you don't belive then you don't belong.

My son goes to a college and the college is a catholic one.

We are not Catholics but its compolsory to attend a religious lesson even though he has no intrest in it.

So religion is exclusive and your evidence is that your non-Catholic son attends a Catholic school. Do I really need to explain the contradiction in your arguement "

No it's because it a collage and its either that one which is closer and suits his needs or a further away one which is a Christian collage again we are not really Christians either

"If you really want to teach your children that when you masterbate you should go and confess it to the priest because it's a sin...

.

You do realise that the Jesus said amassing wealth was morally wrong!... Maybe he was a socialist.

I've got no problem in telling kids not to whack off...I have a problem in instilling the image that it's a mortal sin and shameful.... Religion at its core takes humans away from the animal kingdom for which they belong and places them at a mythical higher power, only here because of a higher power, it removes your connection to what you actually are.... An intelligent ape

Fair bit of selective reading there. Never thought I'd be debating the bible on a swinging forum but anyway. The problem wasn't with the money makers making money, it was that the money makers were making money where they should have been praying.

"Faith schools are alright providing you want your children to grow up paranoid about sex or wanking, confused about their origins, sexist, racist, bigoted and homophobic....

Likewise, comprehensive schools are socialist brain washing camps staffed almost entirely by labour voters. I wouldn't send my cat to one either. "

I actually think you talk a load of balls tbh...i went to a comprehensive school..and ive been very successful in business throughout my lifetime...along with a few of my mates who are actually now multimillionaires...so to talk about comprehensive schools being socialist brainwashing academies is totally wrong...i think you need to do a bit more research into things before you open your mouth lol

Well it's nice to meet a fellow comprehensive school survivor

Most kids go to one so it's inevitable that some people will go on to be successful despite their school. What I'm saying is that they are depressing places that do their best to suck the ambition out of the people that aren't as ambitious as you.

Are you going to pretend that comprehensive school teachers are a highly diversified group that evenly represent the general population? Or can we acknowledge that teaching is the most unionised job in the country and there's a particular political party that gets the majority of its funding via trade unions?

So because you know one exception to the rule then the link between labour and trade unions is imagined and teachers aren't the most unionised job in the country? I think its you that needs to do more research.

Religon is just a belief, there's no actual proof or facts or evidence that anything to do with there being any kind of god exists.

Religon is nothing short of a glorified story but with many different versions of the same story that creates such divide in cultures & communities it's unbelievable and it's not the sort of unprovable myth that should devide a place of education for children.

Teaching that some people believe in religon and there's many different types is one thing but having schools that depend on you having a certain belief for you to attend is another.... That's what Churches , Mosques , Synagogues etc are there for."

There are plenty of facts that the people mentioned in the new testament existed. Whether or not you believe they had anything to do with a supernatural being is up for debate. Either way, I could make all the same arguements about literature, philosophy etc. You can't possibly understand how governments came to exist without understanding the role of religion in society so the idea there's nothing you can learn from it is heavily flawed, whether you believe in a super natural being or not.
