Drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes and driving cars.. it seems successive governments want this..
Where will the revenue (tax approx 43billion) come from to fund the services we enjoy and use.
What would you tax that isn't at present |

"closing the loopholes would make sense and create more revenue than that." In the global market it is not possible but governments will try and fail, multi nationals are more powerfull than governments

That's an economic fallacy based on zero sum economic assumptions. |

If everyone stopped smoking, kept drinking to a glass of wine on a weekend, tried to exercise more, imagine the reduced strain on the NHS. |

what, if we all lived longer? There would be greater strain on the NHS without the benefit of the taxes raised |

There would be no reduction, all that would happen is that the strain caused by alcohol and motor related trauma, and end of life illnesses would be moved to a different part of the NHS. |

If we did that the government would have to tax breathing and sex No wait politicians talk too much and aherm fuck too much... but then they would make themselves exempt probably...
On a serious note I agree with the comment that the NHS would not need as much funding if we were all healthier but that would take time |
