Some of these poor native Americans live in the most amazing scenic places and are content with their lifestyle living at peace with themselves.
The Navajo Nation Reservation is a fantastic location and a great community, there is a whole ban on alcohol as they recognise the problems and they are acting upon it.
Wealth should not be simply judged by the amount on money one holds, but by the beauty & nature of ones surroundings

Why should we not travel east?
We are going to have to look there/are looking there for good opportunities.
Plus Australia and New Zealand are in the East, at least to Britain. |

It still doesn't stop the fact that the whole 'Land of the Free' thing is very subjective, it basically helps if you are white and 'Christian'.
And I rank freedom less by wealth and how socially safe I am. I wouldn't view myself as free in America with the knowledge that firearms are fairly accessible and if my expression of freedom of speech clashes with another person's views, heavy handed violence might well me used to resolve the issue.

I take it you do not travel much in USA, you should enjoy some road trips taking in the North west, may change your mind, especially when you drink in local bars and speak to the locals |

Been to the states a few times, and I've got a few friends who are currently living there, I work with a few American's, and I have friends who were born in America (pen pals as it were).
With the exception of one friend who has recently moved to Florida, most agree that Western Europe is generally more free - unless you are a gun nut or someone who enjoys being able to slander non-whites and receive literal public support.
Don't get me wrong travelling through Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington was amazing, fantastic scenery and yes, there were some very friendly people. That said, even the locals I spoke to were fascinated on how, to them, the UK and western Europe are extremely liberal in the sense that on the whole, people generally just let people get on with their own lives, without bickering about how they perceive society should be. |
