They could be if they can't sort themselves out but otherwise I don't think they are yet. Not my political cup of tea but they have captured something for some people.

Yeah but that something will quickly disappear and then there'll be forced to compete with the likes of the BNP for small votes here and there...

It happens to political parties, the green party wouldn't exist today if you all stopped your crass views on wrecking the earth!.

We'd just call ourselves the party then.... We'd probably get more votes as well

Its called freedom of choice and if the rest of the parties werent all more interested in their own bank balances etc then perhaps the extreme parties would be needed

Arron Banks was also talking about starting a new party a few weeks ago and now it's in the press again today.

What the UKIP party with members that were openly endorsing there ain't no black in the union jack and senior party officials being removed for racism ..as late as last November the UKIP councilor for brighton was pushing the policy of repatriation not immigration.so there still well racist as are those who support them so whose the blind one unless of course you support those type of ideas

I don't think they care about fee paying members, they care about votes. I think UKIP have grown so rapidly that they don't have the same kind of structures and oversight (such as vetting of candidates) that the other parties have. You could say that this gives them problems, but on the other hand, their gaffes never cause them the political harm that it would cause to other parties.

They are still a minor party statistically. If they are to continue to be successful in being a political influence and gaining on it, then they need to find a few key issues to push on - whether they gain or loose support depends on whether their new key points are appealing to more or less people.

Lets face it, EU membership was their political reason for existing - and people in this country, up until a year or two ago, either liked, disliked or were uninformed/didn't care about being part of the EU.

So capitalising on immigration concerns and choosing to ignore how public services and housing has being cut due to austerity measures, then pinning it to the EU - followed by capitalising on wide spread discontent in the status quo got them a lot of support, even if it wasn't in the form of votes.

The question is, will they simply push for harder immigration control and issues such as repatriation - which even in todays political environment I think would reduce their parties power, or do they push for something like proportional representation? Which I think might get them more support now than ever.

Arguably this will put them on the populist route to self implosion though? Too much rapid growth and not enough vetting of members and party leaders would leave them sitting on a bubble. They'd pop under ineffective regulation and party leadership, and the inevitable media pushed scandals which would occur.

"

That's the thing isn't it, prop rep is arguably what the UK could do with in many regards, however it would give UKIP a greater voice. However, would the notion of proportional representation give the public a better feel for voting and democracy, which could drown out UKIPs voice?

I don't know how many mp's they would actually get but they came second in many area's.

If we have not cut our ties with the EU to some extent there share of the vote could rise .

True, or if the post brexit deal we get is a load of crap then many people may give up on them - might feel lied to about the UK's possibilities.

Of course it could go the other way, it could sky rocket purely on the sovrienity and nationalist front.

The leadership race for Ukip has turned into a shambles really, but Steven Woolfe being ruled out could end up having a silver lining in the form of Diane James.

Now if the tories and the SNP can have women leaders, why not Ukip? Also it would be one in the eye for Labour who still have never had a woman leader in the entire time the party had been in existence. Diane James is a very good politician and she is more than capable of being leader. Now Woolfe has been ruled out Diane James will have the backing of Farage.

Ukip will seek to take the traditional working class Labour vote in the north of England who some feel Labour no longer represents them.

Farage had clearly changed his mind then as the interview with Galloway was done in spring 2016. Also it's a bit rich of you to be calling people racists when you support a Labour party that obviously has issues around anti semitism. People in glass Houses shouldn't be throwing stones.

Nigel Farage did an interview with George Galloway on the Sputnik programme on RT news back in the spring. When Galloway asked Farage what's next for UKIP if you win the EU referendum? Farage replied, "Ukip will push to change the voting system in this country from first past the post to proportional representation, to make the UK more democratic and to make people feel as if their vote means something." well.the man has confirmed he is a w liar then

I'm 2015,before the election he proclaimed ukip would be disbanded if the UK left the Eu so why do you still beat your drum.for a party of liars amd blatant racists ?

Farage had clearly changed his mind then as the interview with Galloway was done in spring 2016. Also it's a bit rich of you to be calling people racists when you support a Labour party that obviously has issues around anti semitism. People in glass Houses shouldn't be throwing stones.

Got to stop your assumptions there I havnt supported any party since after the first Blair government my vote since that point has been anti tory so who ever was likely to beat the tory in the areas I lived in got my vote .

aha, another UKIP voter then

No never supported racism or sexism in my life ..that party should be smashed by the decent folk left in the UK . I am going to become on social media an anti UKIP drum beater ...

you have just contradicted your previous post then"

What the fuck are you on about

"Is there something in the water? The UKIP NEC row over the leadership is making them look like Labour party infighting.

.

There could be if ukip got there way on fracking!.

It's a shit job because everybody with any ambition know it's over as a party now?.

They could be if they can't sort themselves out but otherwise I don't think they are yet. Not my political cup of tea but they have captured something for some people.

If you lived in the north of England the only real alternative to the Labour party for a long time has been Ukip.
