Today we was doing a little clear out in my flat as my parents will move to el campello in december as they want to put few things in my flat and we came across old school things I did back in the 90's and we had alot of work about jesus and christmas, we chatted about it and we was surprised that nowadays you dont hear anything about the teaching of jesus in the classrooms, why is that, is it down to multiculturalism and political correctness?

No they are still teaching about Jesus . Christianity and other religions in This more enlightened times teaching about all religions can only be a good thing in schools instead of pushing just religion ..

Going to be honest I'm personally an atheist .as religion has been the cause of more wars and deaths than any one other single cause ..plus in these enlightened times we can see how religion was used to control the uneducated masses over the centuries ..

I dunno about Sweden, but in the UK all schools have to have a christian assembley once a week, whether they are afilliated to a particular chirch or not. Most are church affilited schools though, and certainly have more Christianity taught.

I see. I didn't know that they have to have one of them a week, that is good and yeah depending on what kind of school it is, not sure how it is back in sweden, as I haven't been there for long time. I think it is more when it is near the christmas time.

Why would people wish there children to be preached lies in school ..why not just have all religions explained to them and leave it at that ..

I agree on that count - church and state should be separate. Religion has no place in schools.

Oh goodie, let's use random Internet sites instead of logic. No thanks.

So what was the cause of America's wars since they've had quite a few and none of them were caused by religion?

The fact that religon has been resposible for quite a lot of death (although it appears not to rank in the top 5 according to some... )

I feel it has no place inschools because it is demonstrably rubbish and utterly evidence free. That alone, should be enough for any marginally sane person to eschew it.

"The fact that religon has been resposible for quite a lot of death (although it appears not to rank in the top 5 according to some... )

I feel it has no place inschools because it is demonstrably rubbish and utterly evidence free. That alone, should be enough for any marginally sane person to eschew it.

Like socialism then.

Is the market truth, then?

Capitalism and democracy, the worst systems except all the other ones that have been tried.

Righto. I'm sure you had a point, somewhere. Something tenuous about a soviet command economy being less preferable to people at the time than european free-market capitalism. Of course, you can only compare regimes that exist concurrently using that analogy.

I suppose you could turn it on it's head and say that a tiny minority chose to leave the Soviet bloc, and you could also mention that the communist party is still quite a serious affair in Russia today, but, of course you might then assume tat I'm somehow pro-soviet, because you can't see how someone might be socialist and not a totalitarian...

Well I can only speak about the five schools my kids have been to in different parts of the country.

I've honestly not seen a Christian assembly in years, in fact all the schools I've used have taught multi faith religious policies.

Personally I don't think schools are places for religion except to be taught as a subject

Even if they aren't affiliated to a diocese, they will have an assembly once a week. That assembly must be "broadly christian". Ask in a school. Obviously it's more overt at c of each controlled/Catholic schools...

Not necessarily the latter. But multiculturalism certainly, even amongst the favoured white British there is much greater breadth of belief.

We no longer get religion told to us like it is an unalienable truth. We no longer get it forced on us from a young age.

You are right, things are not like they used to be, and just with rationing, slavery, lack of the vote for all but the rich, that is a VERY good thing.

The less religion we have giving people vested interests, reasons to discriminate etc. the better.

We don't need the threat of eternal damnation to make us behave like kind good people, we don't need to be told that sex is evil and wrong, we don't need to believe that a man born in Bethlehem, brought up in the Middle East and whatnot was a white guy with a beard just to make us think that whites are superior.

Also Christianity is not about Jesus. It is about John. John used Jesus as a handy celebrity to build his already established church on and when Jesus died John continued apace. So it is not even Jesus' teachings we are learning. It is the teaching of a manipulative liar who used others to conform to his church.

We don't need religion any more.

See I can't

understand why things are getting so heated when firstly religion has (especially Judaism - now Christianity/Catholism) has been severely altered to suit certain people of the world.

Secondly Jesus certainly isn't who you think he is - the letter J is the newest in the alphabet and if you actually define lucifer you find that it means bringer of light (which seems kinda special to me) as opposed to trying to adhere to ancient and impossible

commands.

My daughter gets a lot of Christianity thrown at her in the little primary school she's in.

Came home saying things like, "God knows everything you do," or "God sees every thing you do."

I've been explaining that, if you want to believe in something as ridiculous as supernatural entities, there are plenty of other belief systems out there with far more interesting gods and goddesses...

If it's a non-religious school then I don't really understand why they'd do banging on about it outside of RE lessons either.

Communism is taught in history and since teachers are more likely to be left wing than right, many add their own commentary above the official syllabus. Which itself is flattering to our WW2 allies.

In fact, I've mentioned this school before as, last Xmas, the child came home with a leaflet entitled "Radicalism and Extremism" which was about spotting scary people with AK47s and pixilated faces.

I, and the owner of the local kabbaberie brought this up with the headmistress.

And she said to me, "I was in Washington on 9/11. My husband was over the road from the Pentagon working at the British Embassy when the attacks occurred. I know about terrorism."

And I wanted to say, You know about terrorism? Fuck off. Go live in Baghdad, Damascus or Kabul for a year, then come back ad tell me about terrorism.

But no.

I pointed out that the school is like The Village of the Damned and 5, 6 & 7yr olds would be more properly taught about road safety, internet safety or crossing the road with care...

Pissing in the wind with some people.

I pointed out that the school is like The Village of the Damned and 5, 6 & 7yr olds would be more properly taught about road safety, internet safety or crossing the road with care...

Pissing in the wind with some people."

"Today we was doing a little clear out in my flat as my parents will move to el campello in december as they want to put few things in my flat and we came across old school things I did back in the 90's and we had alot of work about jesus and christmas, we chatted about it and we was surprised that nowadays you dont hear anything about the teaching of jesus in the classrooms, why is that, is it down to multiculturalism and political correctness?

Nonsense.

I know what you mean. I get angry when our little one comes home from school and says "communism is a nice idea in theory, it just doesn't work in practice".

No its not a nice idea, it's about entitlement at birth and the forced servitude of others to meet those entitlements. How the flip is that a nice idea!!

You misunderstand me.

Communism, as well you know, is not taught in schools. RE is a requirement, which I understand.

But if all they're getting is Judaeo-Christian nonsense, I'm not happy about it.

If it's a non-religious school then I don't really understand why they'd do banging on about it outside of RE lessons either.

Communism is taught in history and since teachers are more likely to be left wing than right, many add their own commentary above the official syllabus. Which itself is flattering to our WW2 allies. "

My A-Level History teacher had been a mamber of the conservative party, although he left during the Thatcher years, because it didn't fit with his idea of a gentler, more paternal conservatism.

I don't think he was particularly unusual.

He was also, for what it's worth, a Marxist historian.

Re: Cuba. This again? Compare Cuba to its analogues (I think the closest is possibly Haiti) and suddenly Castro doesn't seem so bad.

This is not to say that I think state dictatorsips "work", but neither does Capitalsim - look at America and the millions that cannot afford healthcare....

Thanks for the anecdotal evidence and the false dichotomy.

UCLA have done studies on left wing bias in education but last time I posted a link to it I got a forum ban. Conspiracy?

Teachers are one of the most unionised professionals going and I shouldn't really need to explain why trade union members are more likely to vote Labour than conservative.

Yes we all know Americas healthcare system is shit and I acknowledged that the public services in Cuba are good relative to their region (i.e but not by European or asian standards). The US normal ranks between 30 and 45 for healthcare which is pretty shit so there are 29 - 44 other countries with a better model to compare to. Starting with Canada.

You think this forum is biased towards the left to the point of censorship?

UCLA? Be intersting to see what their actual definition of "left" is...

It's self identification because the UCLA study is based on a survey. Participants are asked to identify as either far left, liberal, middle of the road, conservative or far right.

I suppose if the man himself did a few talks in school's then it might be a bit relevant in the modern world, but I don't think he has done a gig in a few thousand years.
