Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Is this the new politics?

They are asking people who support them to contribute funds to support ANY politician that supports their aims. They state:

"We have five fundamental beliefs that we will work towards:

– A fair, modern, efficient market based economy that closes the gap between rich and poor and supports strong public services

– A modern democracy that empowers citizens, rather than politicians

– A green economy that protects the environment and works to reverse climate change

– An open and tolerant society where diversity is celebrated in all its forms

– A United Kingdom that welcomes immigration, international co-operation and a close relationship with the EU"

Paddy Ashdown is acting as the spokesperson for this today as it launches.

It's not a party, as such. It's not standing for office. It's aim is to support those that share the same beliefs, and show it, from any party.

My question is about whether this is a new politics.

Possibly but I think they have to prove it, live it and not just state it.

The Women's Equality Party went down the party route but is also aimed at being cross party.

Lib Dems are doing exactly the same and top of their list is remaining in EU

The Lib Dems are looking to take all Labour votes as well hoping to take all votes from those who chose to vote "Remain"

I do. I'm a cynic and think this is the beginning of a new or reborn LibDem party.

But I agree with an earlier post. Each political party would claim that for a manefesto as it sounds good. I can count on no fingers how many would acheive more than two on the list.

No because the language is generic and silly to the point of having no meaning. You can't support something that is all things to all people

Yes they have. For goodness sake Nick Clegg did a live televised debate with Nigel Farage before the last European MEP elections. Clegg was soundly beaten and all the post debate polls put Farage as the clear winner.

Adding to that then the Lib dems soon abandoned many of their morals with a sniff of power in the coalition government. Anyone remember Clegg and his promise on tuition fees?

I agree it is good that Politicians aren't largely funded by a few rich mega donors and corporations. It leaves them beholden and it is never a good thing if these people spend too much time around rich people.

However Trump already is one of those very rich people and he spends much of his time in the company of other very rich people.

Furthermore, he isn't really funding his won campaign. He does get donations, but the rest of his campaign is funded by loans to his campaign which means he can pay himself back out of other funds.
