Will be great to see a strong woman at the helm, hope she wins and proves to be a good leader.

Whilst anyone with any human decency naturally loathes her, she really is the best of a very, very bad lot.

"I believe she will unite the party and provide stability and a way forward for our country"

Agreed

Lets hope she can also get the whole country to moderate its language and attitude as well.

I still dont know how she, or anyone else for that matter - is going to get Parliamentary approval to invoke Article 50.

All the other candidates drop out. Install May as leader and PM. Then call a general election while labour are leaderless and are tearing each other apart. Result is an large tory majority in parliament and they force through article 50. Job done

I see a worrying future if she gets in and Clinton gets in. Iran, I'm sure, will be at the forefront for them both.

This is the woman who was in charge of the Home Office when it was so badly managed it ended up giving American contractor Raytheon £250m compensation after paying them about £600m for a system that doesn't work properly.

And the same woman who failed to control the London riots quickly enough. And presided over the passport shambles.

Don't really see any of the candidates as being given leader material.

Dr Fox is actually very competent albeit he has that mini scandal hanging over him. Unlike Gove who is hated in education, Hunt who is hated in heath and May who is hated by the Home Office, most people in defence were sad to see Dr Fox resign because he was doing a good job

It's about who they think can win the next election. That's all that matters.

If May wins and Hillary wins, we'll have women leading the UK, US, Germany and Scotland. And maybe Angela Eagle taking over for Labour. Any chance of finding a Russian woman to replace Putin too? Can't help thinking the world might be a slightly calmer place.

Yeah, the country would never go to war if a woman was in charge

Theresa May played a crafty game in the Referendum. She nominally said 'Remain' but with immigration controls (one defying the other) and then went silent.

So she has no Referendum baggage. She has also been the longest serving Home Secretary for generations in a post that is seen as a 'poisoned Chalice'. How many Home Secretaries did Labour have? And those included the Porn Queen Jaqui Smith...

And today we may have just seen the steel beneath the soft exterior needed to be PM. She showed that steel taking on the Police Federation as well. She has guts.

I have said on here before that the person we need as a new PM is not the same person we need to lead the EU negotiations. The PM needs to pull the country together and give the Markets and the rest of the world a clear vision of how the UK will be a better place. Personally I think both May and Gove can do that very well indeed.

As to who leads the EU talks? Answers on a postcard please to ....

She's far worse than Boris. He has some talent. She's the epitomy of a token female in a leadership position.

A complete nosey parker. She probably lives in a gated community and leads Biodanza classes. Her name indicates that she loves to sing and does so shamelessly, even though she knows her voice is awful. Most people would feel vaguely sorry for her naivety, but some would be charmed and adopt her way of life.

Conclusion: As Prime Minister she'd be great for mutton dressed as lamb photo ops, but otherwise the whole world would laugh at us. There would also be a great increase in skin cancer due to her support of nudist beaches. Still, maybe everyone will feel a bit more relaxed as the world tumbles around them.

Andrea Leadsom was interviewed on TV this morning and she came across very well

as did 54-year-old ex-defence secretary and GP,Dr. Liam Fox

this may sound bad but im having real nice thoughts & fantasies of me being in bed with both Andrea Leadsom & Theresa May at the same time

is that wrong, jeez it does sound so wrong, but nice too

"Boris isn't standing. Did May just win the Tory leadership?"

I doubt the majority who voted out are watching the leadership contest - they have probably receded back into their caves not knowing why they voted the way they did.

If they did watch her speech it gave far more weight to the role then Crabb's effort, and I think Boris realised his effort was seriously lacking in any depth of knowledge to the position. I think Gove came to the same conclusion and put off his giving his announcement until today simply as it wouldn't have been good enough, allowing him time to re-write it. I suspect Gove will be nervous as hell and knows May is the best woman for the job, so will put in that he will support any future PM.

Personally I think May comes across as being indecisive and a bit apprehensive about confrontation. Also I don't like the way she kept so quiet during the referendum, it's such a big political issue and it smacks of careerism

The police federation might disagree, but anyway Teresa May has already got her website up and running...

Lets hope who ever is chosen has the ability to lead us in and out of war with minimum of casualties

we have always been in conflict through out the years in one way or another and many since the end of WW2, we need a strong leader that has the ability to take control through these times

"Boris isn't standing. Did May just win the Tory leadership?"
S

Both Teresa May and her husband should distance themselves from G4s before she goes any further

She and her husband are shareholders in vile security set-up, G4s, many of the UK's police fear she wishes to move G4s into private policing.

.

The company has long been criticised for its inhumane treatment of prisoners worldwide and most especially in Palestine

” G4s is a private security company that provides services and equipment to Israeli prisons, checkpoints, the Apartheid Wall and the Israeli police. G4S provides security systems and other services for major Israeli prisons which hold Palestinian political prisoners from occupied Palestinian territory inside Israel. This is in contravention of Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention which prohibits the transfer of prisoners from occupied territory into the territory of the occupier

.

Three employees of G4S, the multinational company known for the 2012 Olympics security fiasco, have been arrested by Kent police after a BBC program caught them on camera abusing teenagers at a detention center

.

The BBC investigative program Panorama aired shocking footage Monday night of youths at a facility in the UK city of Rochester being hit in the head, choked, and verbally abused by G4S guards

.

Theresa May is trying to push through new snooping-powers that would allow the government to spy on everyone’s browsing history.

When asked if she would allow the UK public to see details of her internet use she declined

.

Apart from that, she does seem a lovely lady for the position of PM
