Fairly impressive speeches and interviews this morning, and he seems to be very much on the ball when it comes to trade agreements without freedom of movement
perhaps some on here should listen to what he is saying rather than some EU unelected bureaucrats
anyone care to put a bet on whether we will get trade without free movement of people, I say we can |

Whatever happens we will continue to trade with the EU . . they're right next door for ferks sake! Business will want this and, if multi-nationals don't get it, jobs will go as they up sticks and move from the UK to the EU.
But if anyone, herr Fox included, feels that if we want to build a nice, neat wall around the UK and only have doors with handles on the inside yet still think that trade will be unaffected . . then they are living in a simple fantasy world.
Fools Trade MUST work BOTH ways or one half will pay the price . . how deep are YOUR pockets then? |

I can't see Liam Fox being in a position to have a say in what our negotiating position will be if i'm honest..
the thing is regardless of how much one attempts to diminish their position in reality they will be the ones holding the cards when talks commence..
whether there will be a compromise and some movement on that issue remains to be seen, i think their position later on will be more pragmatic as i think they realise economically its in their's and our interests both economically and in other aspects..
at the moment they are having to hold a united line on this..
but they will hopefully have been taking a bit more notice on the immigration issue's within the EU than it appears they were before last week.. |

I think Theresa May is the best candidate.
She's securely positioned to appeal to leavers and remainers, has an ego that's not the size of a planet and also has a decent amount of front line political experience.
i think we need Angela Merkel on our side and prominent leave campaigners are going to really rankle her. |

May has an awful track record from her time at the Home Office. On the other hand, Dr Fox did relatively well as Defence Minster |

A charming psychopath. The type of person who, when accused of murdering prostitutes, all the neighbours would say "Him? Surely not!", even though it definitely, definitely was him. He'd keep his nature mostly hidden, except when whispering threats to foreign dignitaries (so quietly they wonder if they imagined it). Teenage girls would start tumblrs about him.
Conclusion: Would actually be quite good at Getting Things Done, steering the country through Financial Crises. The downside would be that if/when we go to war, he not only will sanction torture but will have a go at it himself, then do the same to any journalist who reports it. |

Yes he did...apart from having to resign in disgrace, that is.

A propensity towards corruption is an asset for the defence minister, you haven't forgotten Al-Yamamah have you? Possibly our nations finest moment in terms of winning exports. |

Let’s remind ourselves what Fox did. He allowed his close friend and best man, Adam Werrity, to take up an unofficial and undeclared role in which he attended meetings at the Ministry of Defence without first obtaining security clearance. Werrity had access to Fox’s diary, printed business cards announcing himself as his advisor, and even joined him at meetings with foreign dignitaries.
An investigation by then cabinet secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell found that Fox had shown a lack of judgement by blurring the lines between his official role and his personal friendships. His report concluded: “The disclosure outside the MoD of details about future visits overseas posed a degree of security risk not only to Dr Fox, but also to the accompanying official party.”

Let's remind ourselves what security clearance is for, it allows you to see information market secret or above. There's no evidence the guy needed security clearance. The whole story pales in comparison to your average political scandal. |

I know you're desperate to find a Tory you can speak enthusiastically about without sounding like you're doing it for a bet, but seriously, Liam Fox?!
The guy makes Cameron look like a savvy political operator. |

You've got me there! Caught red handed!
I'm not exaxtly spoiled for choice right now am I? If it was a general election I wouldn't be voting Tory but since we're stuck with them then I'm trying to be positive... but it's hard. |
