I've seen this topic being muted as a reason for putting the orangutan in the Whitehouse again.
I just did a price check, ALDI over here and over there.
A dozen eggs, large and the cheapest in each side of the Atlantic.
UK £2.79/$3.52
US £5.23/$6.59
Walmart has them over $9.00 for the same amount.
Land of the free, naah!
Land of the brave? not sure
Land of the scalped. You bet your bottom dollar!

Two words for the price of eggs in the US
Bird Flu!
It’s decimated the market to the point it has killed ( no pun intended)
Also not helping…. Elon Musk! Let me explain
In his DOGE firings spats, at the FDA he managed to fire the entire department dealing with the outbreak and food safety
It’s one of those cases of doge now scrambling ( again no pun intended) to rehire all the people they fired!

The USDA fired some of the FDA workforce accidentally and is trying to rehire, it wasn't Musk or DOGE that did the firing. |

"Some random international prices for a dozen. I imagine it’s quite difficult to compare.
In $:
New Zealand 6.42
Switzerland 5.78
Germany 4.37
Portugal 2.50
Turkey 1.97
Russia 1.23
"
I paid £2.50 for 6 today |

"Isn't the issue avian flu related?
I think it is. I'm surprised that they are smuggling eggs in from Mexico or Canada.
My US friends post photos of the queues for egg's on FB ! "
Aaah, remember the bog roll rationing, IBS suffeers to the front of that queue. |

It's going to be tough in the US, with leaders who are fairly ignorant and don't care much for what is important. Public health that's going to be at greater risk, through less health monitoring, people who have patchy or no coverage, fired experienced staff and Musk who's out of control. A criminal in charge and billionaire let loose, who stands to gain financially from what he's doing.

"Accidently firing a group of workers takes some doing...lol
It does and fixing bird flu which has been impacting the sales of eggs since Feb 2022, is also going to take some doing."
So if fighting it since 2022 maybe firing the staff who are trying to fight it wasn't the brightest move. |

"I was wondering whether American women were selling their own eggs, after all abortions (depending upon state) are illegal. Maybe they want to create a Trump-Musk master race.
Scareeeeeeeeee"
“All abortions are illegal (except in all the places they aren’t)”.
Could say that about anywhere I think. |

You do acknowledge it wasn't DOGE, Musk or Trump that did the firing of "some" employees? |

I haven't a clue, I haven't looked into it. I just found it hilarious that they could claim they "accidently" fired some staff. |

I suppose it does lend itself to what Trump and Musk are saying, in terms of government efficiencies and those in charge knowing what they are doing. |

Nope…. It was definitely DOGE
As reported by the independent…….
Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency forced the USDA into an embarrassing walkback after it was revealed that staffers who were working on combatting the current bird flu epidemic were mistakenly fired.
U.S. Department of Agriculture officials said Tuesday it had mistakenly laid off “several” agency employees who were vital in the government response to the H5N1 avian flu outbreak, reports NBC News. The department is now scrambling to rehire those who were fired.
The bird flu epidemic has been tearing across the U.S. in recent months – resulting in the culling of millions of birds, outbreaks in dairy cows, egg prices skyrocketing, and infecting dozens of humans.
The DOGE error was exposed just days after U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said that Musk’s DOGE had been working at the agency for weeks – a move that she hailed as positive.
“We know that work will make us better here at USDA. It will make us stronger, it will make us faster, and it will make us more efficient,” Rollins said.
While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention insists the risk to the general public “remains low” amid the current crisis, one person died from H5 bird flu in Louisiana earlier this year. |

I understand it was cuts that DOGE was looking for but I read that it was USDA that fired the people working on bird flu by mistake. |

It's a dangerous game just now, after the virus has been amassing mutations that could prove more costly and deadly to us, before too long.
It's the simple mind that might be happy about some very short-term savings, that would be dwarfed, by the longer-term costs that are caused by their actions. . But what value human life and well-being eh? |
