Any ideas?
I tend to get mine from the BBC but that's not impartial, I only use bbc for lack of adverts.
But it would be good to read the news without any political leaning involved or a particular agenda.
Although I do also use Reuters. |

Try X if you don’t already.
It’s by far the fastest source of news and you get an entire world of sources so you can take your pick and get whatever balance you want.
I’ve also found Telegram useful for getting a more balanced view of what’s actually happening in Ukraine, as you get a lot of foreign language sources (including Russian) which wouldn’t be given airtime on British TV.
Otherwise there’s a lot of good podcasts, again take your pick.
I haven’t really watched UK TV news for years. A lot of it is biased and very parochial. |

X is a Trump propaganda outlet owned by the Co-President, Elon Musk, and run by the right wing mob. I would not trust that to tell me the date. I don't know about the others. Al Jazeera can be interesting for alternative opinions but keep you BS filter turned up to 11. |

No outlet is free of bias, so best to get a mixture from a few while being aware of their inherent biases too. Definitely do recommend Democracy Now for global news though as they do a good job covering things.
Also if you read something that backs up what you already think or believe, make sure to double check. Our own confirmation bias makes us less skeptical when it comes to news that reaffirm our own opinions.
Sticking to one outlet religiously because it says things that you want to hear might sound nice, but can have you immersed in a manipulative echo chamber without realising it. |

And agreed. Twitter has turned into a shit heap these last few years, but especially the last few months. Glad to see Bluesky taking off so well with the mass exodus.
Was using twitter mostly to keep up with science news and communicating with people working in conservation or climate science, but things became so utterly toxic to be discussing those topics on that platform. |

Yes X is definitely the best Social media source, simply follow a range of media and individuals for a balanced mix.
Clearly some on the far left have been annoyed it's no longer an echo chamber and moved to Bluehair but their absence has actually improved the balance. |

Totally agree with this - the key though is that you also need to search for stuff you -actively- disagree with. That’s really hard because who wants to read stuff that you -know- is rubbish? In reality I don’t think anyone is actuallly capable of doing this properly. |

I've seen her. She is good. YouTube is good for a variety of sources. Unbiased is harder though.

I look for video footage of important events from multiple sources MSM, X, YouTube, and others. This quickly exposes any bias lurking in the shadows.
I have lost count of how many times I have watched a speech, only to see MSM edit out or shorten parts to push a completely different narrative.
I also keep an eye on conspiracies and wild claims I see posted around, I look for their sources and what is driving the narrative. That’s where things really open your eyes to manipulation.. |

. Most news outlets will be impartial if you differentiate between the facts that they report and the opinions expressed by the various journalists. It is the opinions expressed that make the facts interesting. |

For the most part yes, but actually had been decent enough keeping up with science news and even discussing things with various researchers in many fields directly instead of just reading about things through media, as they were often sharing links to what they were working on or others that they were communicating with. Even with short messages, you could have great in-depth conversations or follow those discussions by others.
That said, that part had gotten worse and worse over the last few years and just dreadful now, with many of the posts (especially when it comes to over politicised fields like climate science) being greeted with dozens of replies from morons that slept through science class dismissing the work simply because of their own political ideology and echo chambers they exist in.
When you're aware how many of these researchers are struggling with despair and trying to retain hope that humanity can come through and deal with these existential risks, it's no wonder they jumped ship. Hard to retain that hope with the number of proud willfully ignorant idiots there that can't see beyond politics. |

Came here to suggest this. I’ve been looking in to this lately. It’s a very different take on news. It polls other news sources, gives a gauge of the bias of that source and compares other coverage of the same subject. |

This idea of impartiality is an interesting point. Does complete neutrality even exist? A News channel should, in theory, present the known and verified facts surrounding any news topic. But are facts black and white, or shades of grey? Who decides which facts are relevant and which irrelevant? Which that happened and which that were invented |

I like Channel 4 News.
It's also fascinating to read the raw news from Reuters, as you say, or AP in my case, and see the bias/political slant the MSM injects to satisfy their readerships.
I read all the UK front pages courtesy of BBC News website.
Not really into fringe newsfeeds or X etc. as their prime function is to make money for their owners which often means inventing or slanting "facts".
I like to think C4 News doesn't have this pressure, and is far less in the political spotlight than BBC News. |

Actually… now I watch of global tv to see how other countries see the same events and how it’s done is fascinating
For example CBC , the Canadian version of the BBC, do I think a brilliant job at covering North America…
Al Jazeera English, for all their faults, gives you a different look at subjects concerning the Middle East, than you would get anywhere else
The BBC and Sky News do a good job at actually covering and reporting news as such, and it’s the envy of the world…. There is a good reason why when sky news was owned by fox and murdoch , they didn’t want it on us stations going up against Fox News! There is a good reason now that now sky news is owned by Comcast, NBC News in a lot of world defer to sky news reporting (on NBC’s 24 hr news channel, if there isn’t a news program scheduled.. for example the middle of the night.. it just switches to a sky news uk feed!)
it’s just the domestic political stuff that people find divisive (I don’t watch the Sunday morning political shows for those reasons) |

I watch a variety, to get a comparison, control test the waters of media.
The BBC remind me of Soviet news, all that red. Scary title music, glass n metal backgrounds cold and stern. Hard to trust after recent events.
Japan News has nice music, especially on the weather, little segues. Brussels my love, there's a strange channel name, bit bland with their coverage. CNN very left slant but learning to accept defeat with the election. Al Jazeer, biased, but different take on the events.
Youtube is my current go to, quick bursts leaves you to work out the truth without being influenced. Also the amateur news gatherers are refreshing rather than the game show delivery from the pros'.

Sky News used to be a useful antidote to the BBC but now it’s just become another Blob propaganda outlet spewing out the same rubbish as the BBC.
And its viewership has declined accordingly.
It regularly gets fewer viewers than GB News, which is remarkable given their respective budgets and how long they have been around.
Things went wrong for Sky News (and Sky) when Comcast acquired it.
Now I see Sky News is laying off staff, shifting operations online (like Talk) and there are even doubts about whether Comcast want to keep funding it.
It’s similar to what’s happening in the US where the network news audiences have collapsed and they are now culling staff. They’ve spent years pushing propaganda at people and their audience has just switched off.
People want objective news available to them on demand and from a variety of sources so they can develop their own judgement, and that’s much more available on social media, podcasts, YouTube etc.
As for the BBC and Sky being the “envy of the world”. Maybe they love watching the BBC at Hamas meetings, but I’m doubtful whether anyone else much cares.

Agreed. Our own worldview distorts how we perceive reality as well as influences what sources we use, and we're all susceptible to confirmation bias and getting immersed in reaffirming echochambers.
Need to be totally aware of that to truly be skeptical.

I find it fascinating when a belief if my own is proven to be a fallacy. A personal example would be that rainforests are the lungs of the earth and we need them for our air. I’m fact they are balanced systems that have the perfect number of animals to use the oxygen they produce.
Another of my own fallacies had me using the economy is like a household/balance the books argument which is nonsense. Finding out where you are wrong is growth and should be celebrated. It’s too much for most, their ego’s can’t handle it. |

All news channels from main stream to internet based are all biased to a point,
Even when you hear something and don't think its factually true you can't even do your own research because search engines are just the same feeding you their own biased view point ,
I follow loads from all over the world on X, Double Down News is 1 but you will always hear some sort of bullshit or maybe its only bullshit because I don't agree with it  |

I was watchin a fair bit of GB news as it had some themes I agree with, but sometimes it goes too far off to the right with me.
Lately Dan wootton going off on one and Jacob reece-mogg clips of him basically bragging about his mansion , wealth (again) and being lazy while in parliament and slouching in his seat and being paid by our taxes.
Farage is much better s presenter though don't agree with some topics he brings up
