Apparently Ukraine started the war.

Trump to Zelensky, "you've been there for 3 years, ... war... you should never have started it".

Yep, saw it. I'll be pulling my contracts out of the US on Monday. Sorry Americans, I'll rake my business elsewhere for the next 4 years.

Deranged, dementia or delusional? And yet democratically elected. If it was a film, it'd go down as far fetched.

By next week likely he will be halting weapons supplies.

This is going to go very bad for Ukraine very quickly and Europe has sat back and let USA take the lead.

Good to see that Trump is demanding that elections be held in Ukraine.

They are after all long overdue in this “democracy”.

Time to see what sort of support Western hero Zelensky actually has.

Still I’m sure he has got plenty of US dollars squirrelled away to enjoy his retirement in the south of France.

I find this a bit worrying to be honest. It sounds like Trump is siding with Russia, willing to throw Ukraine under the bus to get what he and Putin want.

What is Ukraine to do?

And what DOES Putin have on Trump to get him in his pocket?

this was always going to happen republican or democrat look back since after the 2nd world war,American politicians cheer for war pick a side and either send troops or weapons until they either get bored or it becomes unpopular at home and then hang people out to dry I can't see why anyone is surprised unfortunatley this time they had help from bojo the clown aswell, ukraine have two choices either come to an agreement or carry on fighting and lose the rest of there male population because without Americas backing wurope won't be supporting them for much longer either as it's a vote loser, and no matter what the TV is saying there isn't great support from the public either

Aren’t citizens of a country who live abroad usually able to vote? I’m not really sure why so many Ukrainians have fled abroad, particularly those of fighting age. Why have they not been returned?

I’m sure there are plenty of UK and US citizens who are being held captive abroad who don’t get to vote but it doesn’t stop us having elections.

Just sounds like poor excuses to avoid what we all know will be the case. That Zelensky will get kicked out.

Trump is obviously Putins bitch.

Trumps demands placed on Ukraine with regard to their rare earth minerals are outrageous and would make Ukraine a vassel state to the US.

The rest of the world is soon going to realise that the US cannot be trusted. An increasing anti-American coalition is probable leading to a new form of Cold War with the US asvthe new baddy.

Ukraine is already a US vassal state.

It pays for its military, civil service, media, pensions etc etc.

Nobody seriously thinks that military aid is free do they?

Trump was very clear that when he took office he would pull the billions being sent to Ukraine, again I would be very surprised if there was anyone alive who didn't know he was working on putting America first.

I just feel like Ukraine have been sold down the river.

And what does it show Putin? That if he plays the waiting game then eventually folk will capitulate to him and he will get off relatively scott free.

And if Ukraine do hold elections are they really going to want to get rid of Zelenskyy? He has been very good on the World stage drumming up support for his Country in all this. The only thing that might go against him is his lack of willingness to back down.

I’m obviously looking at this through idealistic eyes, with no clue as to what War really involves, but as an observer looking from the outside, it looks as though the bullies have won.

There are many things at play as you are pointing out with the complexity of the situation.

What has not helped Ukraine is the lack of decisiveness from European nations over the years and Putin who will play every angle to exploit its weaknesses to his advantage. As an example he can continue now to dispute the Ukraine border, this prevents Ukraine from joining NATO.

Zelensky has not looked to change his strategy which is to keep fighting at all costs, this has ultimately led to the position he is in today. Biden along with Europe are / were, fuelling that strategy, and Trump made it clear that if he was re-elected he would cut the staggering costs of this war to the US as he puts America first as part of his pledge.

The European countries are still in disagreement on how to deal with Putin, even now, and that just hands Putin even more time and chaos to use to his advantage. The war needs to come to an end to stop the needless loss of life, the land has been taken and will not be returned unless Russia were to be defeated, and I can't see anyone US or European that want to take on Russia.

Zelensky now accusing Trump of living in a “disinformation bubble”.

Sounds a great idea insulting your paymaster when you have no Plan B.

Zelensky is looking desperate, I understand this, but he allowing his emotion to drive his commentary, which is going to alienate him if he is not careful.

I think his best option is to rally around the European nations, especially the East Europeans to propose a border defence, and put Trump to one side, this move will render all Russian and US talks meaningless.

It is his only hope of taking back some control.

My understanding is that in Ukraine during a national war it is against the law to hold elections. I have never looked into it but is that not a normal situation for a country at war, not to hold elections, especially one that's cities are constantly bombed. I think there was no general election in the UK during 6 years of WW2 or at least until Germany surrendered and only Japan was left to defeat, but by then there was no direct threat in the UK

You should be able to work out for yourself why they can't have an election. It's an obvious and simple explanation.

There's some major differences between us and a country that's been under invasion and war for 3 years! Significant displacement of their population and being under constant attack, it's hardly priority to divert attention to elections, instead of protecting lives.

It's hardly as if it's been many years, since they had elections either.

I said to a friend this morning if you managed to upset the daily mail, the daily express and gb news, and you are not a commie… whatever you said must be bad!!!

I know he goes for shock value at times, but sometimes I feel really bad for the republican politician they have to trot out to then defend the indefensible…

I’d love to ask the White House press secretary hand on heart if she believes everything that comes out of her mouth

I said to my mum this morning “do you think those in the White House support what he’s saying or doing or are they all sat there, cringing, getting the sweeping brush ready to clean up after him”.

Make America Great Again at the cost of everyone else.

I think the UK needs to get the Military sorted pronto, it’s every Country for itself.

Trump lacks diplomacy, but when he speaks things happen.

That’s the complete opposite of what we see daily across Europe, plenty of diplomacy, endless talking, and no action. This is exactly how Europe got caught off guard by Russia, again.

Look at Trump's results 4 weeks in; His comments have already forced Europe to refocus on defence spending, played a role in pushing a Gaza ceasefire, and will likely bring an end to the war in Ukraine one way or another.

People wear their dislike of him like a badge of honour, but it’s impossible to ignore the fact that he moves the stalled narrative, while European leaders remain stuck in a cycle of inaction that they have meeting after meeting about.
