SKS thinks any Ukrainian peace deal must have a US backstop...nice of him to decide on behalf of the US. Alternatively, European countries could collectively sort out their own problems rather than rely on the States |

People seem to forget that the Yanks are not "protecting" Europe or anyone else through some sort of amazing altruism. They have bases scattered across the globe to protect themselves back in the good old US of A. Early warning radar bases, intelligence gathering bases, massive air, sea and military bases. None of these are placed solely to benefit the host country. If the US lost access to these facilities then the threat to the US would literally be on their doorstep. It benefits them to be able to detect incoming missiles 3000 miles away rather than 300. Over the horizon radar and space based detection systems can offset this problem but the US could not afford to lose the security that having overseas bases provides.
The US needs to stay wary of Russia despite the seemingly current pally bromance under way. Trump may be happy to play his America first fantasy but needs to remember that it has always been Russia first under Czar, Socialism or Putin. Russia also is very good at playing the long game and is happy to wait out the US as they weaken alliances and piss off the rest of the world. |

Fabulous insight, of course no European countries have any responsibility for their own borders |

And now Russia won't accept NATO troops as a peace keeping force. If only European countries had spent some money on their military capabilities instead of relying on the us and spending all their money on humanitarian projects. Granted it's early days... |

Not a problem, have you seen what arrived here in the last few days. It doesn't need to actually be on the ground in Ukraine. |

SKS didn't need to decide, I couldn't quite make out what he was saying for the noise coming down the various runways in the UK.
Looks like Tangoman already knows he's lost the negotiations with Russia, and is shuffling his military assets. |

It's too early to get the aggressor detailing the outcome terms when the talks haven't started yet.
Trump is spouting off as if the war has ended and all that's happened is that Russia is no longer completely isolated |
