Gender is not biological so there being more than two genders shouldn’t undermine what you were taught at school. Unless maybe you were taught to believe gender was biological even though there’s zero evidence for that at all. |

"I'm no fan of his whatsoever, but he's right, there are 2 genders, male or female... Simple as.
With the slight exception of trans I suppose, but that's another kettle of fish. "
What about hermaphrodites or intersex people?
The slight exception of trans is an interesting phrasing choice. |

I hate threads like this so I’m going to check out early. Don’t know why I commented. But just a thought, we don’t need to debate the existence of what is to some people their real life lived experience. We don’t need to debate whether their feelings on their identity are valid or not. |

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me |

The X and Y chromosomes, also known as the sex chromosomes, determine the biological sex of an individual.
That's biological enough for me |

"Why do people even care how complete strangers identify themselves? "
I don't care at all, it's their right and their choice.
However I also have the right to choose how I identify them.
I use this simple gender test.
Strip off, stand in front of a mirror and look between your legs.
If you see meat and 2 veg hanging there then you are a bloke.
If it looks like a rip in a fur trappers hat (hairy) or a pig with its throat cut (shaved) then you are not a bloke.
Everything else is choice not gender. |

Other people have the right to choose how they identify me? That's news to me. "
By definition. Nobody can choose how someone else identifies anything or anyone. But everyone has complete choice over how they identify everything and everyone.
Of course anyone can be wrong (morally or objectively), but it's still their prerogative. At some point, any self identification becomes absurd. Man? Woman? Black? Chinese? Cat? Table? President of the Moon? Somewhere on the spectrum, it goes from correct to plausible to absurd. Where that point is can be subjective. But everyone may (rightly or wrongly) identify the point with which they agree. |

I think Trump is referring to projects where money is spent on Trans issues, sport where manly trans women are beating the hell out of female boxers and winning in other sports with an unfair advantage over female competitors.
Also teaching kids it's cool to be the other gender to which they were born.
Also public loos, tvs and cds should stay away from female loos, probably closing mixed sex loos.
Documents like passports and driving licences in some cases will need to be corrected.
What a person does in the privacy of their own home and is not hurting anyone is OK, clubs OK. Public mincing around and offending others probably not OK.
Any of the above doesn't bother me.

I think the issue as Trump sees it and is trying to address, boils down to DEI and how it has run away with itself, especially inside the government.
His aim is to have a system based on merit alone and not sub categories that give some an advantage over others. How it all ties together at the end is going to be the challenge. |

"
None. Because it's absurd. But it's their right to believe or identify that way, even if we agree that it's absurd. Because one person's absurd night be another's genuine belief. To some, it's absurd that a biological man can identify as a woman. If we cannot agree that absurd positions are one's right to believe in, then our definition of absurd is what dictates another person's right to identify as something. Tolerance isn't agreeing with others, it's acknowledging others' right to do, say or think things with which we disagree. What's missing in this whole debate is that very notion of tolerance. Both sides insist that the other sees things in their way, and only in their way.
"

It's your right to be absurd. You'd be wrong, but that's okay. Offensive and annoying, perhaps, if you insisted on banging on about your absurd belief, but okay.
We cannot police how other people think - on either side of this argument. |

I think the issue as Trump sees it and is trying to address, boils down to DEI and how it has run away with itself, especially inside the government.
His aim is to have a system based on merit alone and not sub categories that give some an advantage over others. How it all ties together at the end is going to be the challenge. "
His aim is to have groups for people to hate as a distraction whilst he makes himself richer and more powerful.
You are more deluded than anyone identifying as a table if you think Trump cares at all about what kind of system exists in society beyond how it benefits him.
Genuinely laughable. |

This thread has been quite tame on gender identity. If people cannot agree on how a person identifies and then therefore addresses a person incorrectly in a discussion about them (not to them), then that shows rudeness. If one cannot use he/him or she/her etc surely just use their name? |

How many people genuinely identify as a table?
And how much are they contributing to this 'problem'? Also if I identify you as a table is that ok?
It's your right to be absurd. You'd be wrong, but that's okay. Offensive and annoying, perhaps, if you insisted on banging on about your absurd belief, but okay.
We cannot police how other people think - on either side of this argument.
This thread has been quite tame on gender identity. If people cannot agree on how a person identifies and then therefore addresses a person incorrectly in a discussion about them (not to them), then that shows rudeness. If one cannot use he/him or she/her etc surely just use their name?"
I guess there is a difference between what's socially acceptable and what's legally acceptable. Rudeness can not/should not be legislated against. Socially, let adults handle it. If someone doesn't respect your pronoun, you have all the rights to stop talking to the person. |

Other people have the right to choose how they identify me? That's news to me.

I see. I wonder if a straight person changed their name by deed pool whether your friend would insist on calling them by their old name or is it just a trans person they want to treat that way. |

They could have simply called the person whatever the person wanted to be addressed as?
The person your referring to has in their life had friends and colleagues whose name changed upon marriage and pretty certain they just used the new name so it looks like the issue of being spoken to by HR who would have only got involved after repeated ignorance or just being plain arsey..

Because it's a reasonable and rational part of said social contract. Similar to the social assumption that I won't murder you and you won't murder me. The person who breaks that contract in the first place is attempting murder. The person who reacts to the contact being broken is acting in self defense. Unfortunately, neither person is in the right, but one is ostensibly less wrong.
Or like the way that brand of sex with consenting adults is somehow better than the other kind. You can break it down into all the reasons why, and some sociopaths will still hold that that statement simply isn't true.
But. Here we are 💜 |

I get all that.
But if person A says "I think people can't change from one sex to another", and person B says "you're wrong". Who has broken the social contract? Is it person A for expressing their belief, in the knowledge that someone might not like it? Or is it person B who denied person A's right to have that opinion?
The social contract basically says that we should all be nice to each other. But if one person has a rational opinion that another doesn't like, which one is at fault? How can you determine that one person's opinion is more valid than the other's? |

I don't care if someone thinks people can't change from one sex to another in so much as they're allowed to have their own thoughts and opinions on whatever they like. But, now knowing their thoughts and opinions on it, I can simply know that they are not the sort of people I want to have around me.
That is, I don't want to be friends with those people. I don't want to fuck those people. I don't want to have them around the people I care about who are part of what they don't believe.
I'm not supporting legislation that makes the people who do believe that suffer any kind of indignity or forces them into dangerous situations.
The question was about intolerance. I don't eat much dairy because I'm intolerant of it. I don't try to destroy the dairy industry or actively seek to make farmers lives more difficult just because it doesn't work for me. I don't proclaim how disgusting it all is every time I walk past milk in the supermarket.
If you don't agree with trans people, no one is forcing you to be friends with or fuck them. Just let them be. They're not doing you or your loved ones any harm by simply existing 💜 |

But would he have tolerated gender identification?
And would he tolerate modern biological categorisation? After-all, the presence of a y chromosome indicates male but may not be yet determined, while the presence of female genitalia from birth and ensuing socialisation indicates female.

Is it?
Look at the person above. She responded to a theoretical person saying that sex couldn't be changed, by stating that she didn't want to know that person, or hear anything they had to say. The theoretical person didn't attempt to exclude trans people, they just expressed an opinion on which labels were transferable and which weren't. The person above responds by refusing to tolerate their presence. |

So because I don't want to be friends with or have sex with someone that thinks that someone I love doesn't have the right to live their life as a man, I'm unfairly excluding them? I didn't say they couldn't have their opinions. I didn't say anything other than the simple fact that I don't want to have that sort of person close to me.
I am not obliged to tolerate the presence of someone in my intimate and personal life. If I pass them in the street I'm not saying I'd spit in their face. If I worked with them as a colleague I'd do the usual small talk but avoid getting into any actual conversations where possible. I'm simply choosing to live my life away from people who's morals and ideologies are directly harmful to people that I love. |

They're gonna be real upset when people like my trans partner are required to use the women's toilets, despite now having a penis and a more masculine physique than 99% of cis men I've encountered.

"...a person belonging, at conception to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell..."
What's more worrying is this normalisation of things starting "at conception". There's some "life begins at conception" subtext in there. Or would've been much easier and neater to find a clearer biological definition.

And that's before the point that early embryos are all classified as female until the y parts start to become definable 💜
"...a person belonging, at conception to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell..."
What's more worrying is this normalisation of things starting "at conception". There's some "life begins at conception" subtext in there. Or would've been much easier and neater to find a clearer biological definition.
"
At conception they produce neither. Many people don't produce either later in life too for various reasons.
Let's not get onto the absolute horror that is reproductive rights over there 💜 |

It's brilliant, and backs up my biology lessons at school which means I wasn't lied to
Since you know so much about Biology, did you know the Trump's order just defined everyone in the US as a female?"
Except it doesn't and that's a rather silly story. Sex is determined at conception when the chromosones are locked in, which is what the Order says. |

Other people have the right to choose how they identify me? That's news to me.
Intolerance is nasty is it not?
🤷♀️ I don't understand (I do really) how taking my freedom to identify my *self* in order to allow others the freedom to identify my *self* is right.
Think what you like about me but keep your opinion to yourself please
Would you support your/the children within your family group ? If they came out as transgender. Or turn your back on them ?
support them. It's not my right to tell them how they feel. I'd want them to have as much time to consider their options and all the information they needed to make decisions.
Could have put a mortgage on that would be your answer, You'd make a good polition. SO after all the correct procedure they are diagnosed as having gender dysphoria.
What would your decision be now.
Just a simple yes or no answer required ?
Age comes into it.
Also I think women would be more supportive than men (I've seen it for myself where men act as tho they feel threatened by a trans woman)."
Yet so many want to fuck trans on the DL it’s comical

Trump's order doesn't do that. It states that there are only 2 sexes. Which, as far as I know, is what we've all agreed on from the beginning. |

A large section of the political left has drifted so far from reality that they are enraged and disorientated by hearing simple biological fact. I very much wish it was not Trump leading the return to reality but he's only in this position because the left has alienated so much of its nature support with woke madness. Better him than nobody. |

The problem with the Gender issue is that people get stuck in semantics all the time.
There is biological sex. Then there is gender. Some say gender is a social construct, some say it is a psychological thing and so on. But that's not the main issue here. If someone wants to identify themselves by a different gender, it's usually not a big issue.
The main problem is whether we should use gender or sex in social institutions. Should sports use sex or gender? Should government or corporate policies and laws about sex be applied based on biological sex or gender?
Then there are smaller issues around things like pronouns. |

"For All the gay, lesbian and bi people on here supporting trump.
Unless you are a straight white Christian in America you are not wanted. "
What's new. If someone wants to hate me that's up to them, I can't force a person or a President to like me. I'm indifferent towards Trump, he has good points and bad. He'll piss on alot more hetro people than LGTBQ's.
It's all about funding he couldn't give a damn who or what you are as long as you're not going to cost or damage his fiscal goals. When he realises the Pink Dollar is quite substantial he might change his tune. At the moment he's on a God trip. When he realises he's aligning with Muslim Extremists in his view to gay and lesbian rights he might snap out of it. I say might, he's getting on now and set in his ways, nearly lost an ear and a point to prove over Jan 6th.
The new generation of Trumps might be different. Wouldn't it be funny if Baron turned out to be gay.

Obviously. The numbers for intersex conditions are widely inflated with fake numbers going viral. More anti science ideology alas. |

That's a moot point. Biologically these people are one sex and physically another. At the point of conception they are programmed to be A but the programming goes wrong during pregnancy and end up as B. |

I would say it is not normal to include such small minority outliers in such a policy statement. This does not mean that there should not be legal provision for those in that position. |

The 1.7% includes all notable anomalies, rather than just the outright chromosome and external genitalia presentation.
But many of those could well include the inability to produce the relevant reproductive cells required for definition.
Bear in mind things like the Khelif controversy over the Olympics. It's still unknown what happened there, but if she does have XY but female presenting genitalia, it's gone unnoticed into her adult life, and without the publicity would have been simply considered a sporty woman. People aren't generally tested for every possible anomaly. |

InterAction has the breakdown of the 1.7%. They state that Sax has a too narrow a definition and is not used clinically or in the community.
Bottom line: majority of the population falls into binary sex categories. But intersex, Swyer and XX male syndromes cannot be "outcast" by legislation.
And as for gender identification, feel ya boots peeps, don't let intolerant bleeps affect how you live your lives. They are not worth your time or energy. |

I don't think an executive order would have been needed if activists hadn't been left to stretch definitions so far that it has created a problem of exploitation in sports, male and female rights, and even the ability to hold reasonable discussions without fear of backlash. By pushing the boundaries of language and concepts to the point of confusion, they’ve undermined the clarity that is essential for fairness and understanding.
It is a tiny minority of people exploiting the confusion, if we tackled those people as an example, the men who identify as women to enter a women's prison, the swimmer and sprinters who are taking female scholarships. Tackle those and the issues go away, but we haven't because as above the language has got so confusing and weaponised it is easier to let things slip than tackle. |

Well said.
I also think the cause has been hijacked by militant activists who have an anti establishment agenda and jump from one cause to another not actually carrying about it but just want disrupt.
What seems ironic about this whole gender labelling issue is the people who called for the right to choose have now become tyrant's themselves dictating what the majority should say and think based on their own ideology and what they believe we should all think.
Rather than everyone having the right to choose their own path yet keep within the boundaries that has been put in place by law. |

This was hardly an issue until we started seeing news about transwomen who clearly had an advantage over women participating in women's sports and also going to women's prisons. Then we found out how gender issues are handled with kids.
The moment these were questioned, the left started exploiting the uncertainty of meanings in languages and relativism to distract people from the core issue.
Most sane people saw the ridiculousness of it all but couldn't openly oppose it because obviously they will be character-shamed and branded a Nazi. |

Mr F. "
No, because you're from Stoke where men are men and women are women and teapots are only for tea.

"Gender is not biological so there being more than two genders shouldn’t undermine what you were taught at school. Unless maybe you were taught to believe gender was biological even though there’s zero evidence for that at all. "
The idea of sex and gender being separate is relatively new though - it wasn't so long ago that the words were used interchangeably.
What we consider 'gender' nowadays, is what we used to call 'gender expression' - and what we used to call transexual, is now more commonly transgender.
However in my own opinion, if someone, for whatever reason, has a deep psychological need to present as the opposite sex, then they have every right to be as happy as anyone else.
But, all those other gender idenitities we have now - well a lot of that is just attention seeking nonsense. |

In the future my children can choose to identify however they want, and they will always have my love and support.
I would hope the world would be as kind to them as it would anyone else too, because they are my children and I want them to be happy and accepted and safe.
Therefore it is my responsibility to offer that same kindness and support to someone else’s children identifying however they want and accepting them as they are and their wishes.

"Look up intersex variation. An Australian site stating there are more than 30 types of intersex.
These are medical outliers, no?
Right.
But the declaration is that there are only two options.
That's why it was followed up with a cack-handed definition. He should've just acknowledged the 0.012% (or 1.7% if you're looking for the loosest possible definition) of clinically recognised outliers as exceptional to be clear.
I would say it is not normal to include such small minority outliers in such a policy statement. This does not mean that there should not be legal provision for those in that position.
That small minority always becomes a talking point. If he wanted clarity, he should've anticipated and addressed it."
He doesn't need to address it. A person with a DSD (Intersex) is still either biologically male or female, they are not a mystical third sex or some kind of in-between or mixture. A person with Klinefelter for example, is still a male, no matter how feminine they outwardly appear, and aren't automatically going to relate to trans or gender identity issues.
On a side note, the main opinion I've heard from the mouths of people who have a significant DSD is that they dislike being used as a "gotchya".
