As someone who hates the Tories with a passion I was hoping for better things. But sadly I'm a tad disappointed so far. Yes its only been 6 months and I hope they improve over the next 4 years. The one person who I always thought would make a good PM was Andy Burnham. |

I feel exactly like that. I also echo the comment about adults in charge. As soon as there was a problem with a minister she was gone, unlike the last lot.
Corruption seemed to be encouraged under the tories. The details of this Tulip Siddiq story are going to be interesting. |

On LK, the minister stated Kier will follow the recommendations after investigation, unlike Bojo.
I hope that's true. |

"Made permanent the ban on puberty blockers as recommended by Cass Report."
The only wrong step for me is the desore to create unitarian authorities and do away with local councils. Counterproductive |

He'll definitely get rid of her. The main gripe here is that she should be gone already, that's what he used to ask of the Tories when someone was under investigation. |

I didn’t see LK so I don’t know the details but it is not a leaders job to follow recommendations. Their job is to make _decisions_ - which might well mean going against recommendations.
Blindly saying you will follow recommendations before you know what they are is not leadership. It’s followship. |

I mean, are you actually looking at what they've done or just reading about them in the Tory papers?
They introduced over 40 bills in the kings speech, which was the most in 20 years I believe, would be surprised if people couldn't find one single thing they approve of.
a few things that spring to mind:
Removed the Tory ban on wind farms
Rail nationalisation bill
Free breakfast clubs for primary schools
Deported 16400 illegal migrants, the highest number in 5 years
Renters reform
Employment rights bill
Updating planning policy to try and boost housing targets |

Depends on your point of view. If you are in a public sector or other heavily unionised job then you will be feeling a short term gain.
Those of us who have to work to pay for the government largesse are already feeling the pain.
Same applies to pensioners and country dwellers.
Everyone will suffer economically soon.
As for the rest of it, migration up, economy down, woke indoctrination up, NHS down etc. And just cherry pick statistics to lie about it.
And then there is the corruption. |

Removed the Tory ban on wind farms - not an efficient or sustainable solution for power generation
Rail nationalisation bill - for those of us who lived with nationalised railways we can look forward to inefficiency, very high pay rises which we all pay for and regular strikes.
Free breakfast clubs for primary schools - sounds good as long as there's people to run them but nothing is ever free.
Deported 16400 illegal migrants, the highest number in 5 years - this is the current claim...let's see if this mess can really be solved and if so that's a positive
Renters reform - landlords are selling of property due to this and other Labour measures so rental property shortages are on the way.
Employment rights bill - this plus the NI rises and other taxes are seeing businesses actively reducing staff numbers with planned recruitment on hold or stopped completely and any ideas of growing the economy can be forgotten.
Updating planning policy to try and boost housing targets - this is basically taking any care out of the planning system which is aimed at simply concreting over any land, including reclacifacation of some greenbelt land. Builders have already said they don't have the resources to build to the target levels and many are scaling back due to the anti business measures that have been introduced.
I really hope the government sees some sense, admits they've screwed up and put things right, and quickly. The country needs sorting out, our debts reduced, not increased but currently it's all doom and gloom.
If they do this there's some hope but currently we are on the path to bankruptcy or whatever the financial term is for a nation. |

This thread was about Labour.
The Tories were useless and corrupt as well. |

They've shown being in opposition is easy; being in government is difficult.
That said we've been shafted by all governments of all persuasion. They typically only change when they've failed and this one will be no different. |

I have no love for Starmer but after 14yrs of Tory rule and the disaster of brexit that has cost the country 114+ billion in trade anyone taking over has a hell of hill to climb.
Sk ask me in four years time. |

"Absolutely nothing right nothing ultra left, either even though we have a riight leaning press trying to paint him as a communist!"
VAT on private schools, inflation busting unilateral pay rises costing taxpayers an extra £20 billion, and raising NI contributions on businesses are very left policies in my view.
I’d consider things like GB Energy, nationalising the railways, and forcing private firms to build taxpayer funded affordable housing as ultra left territory. |

As bad as the Tories were with these thing, we were constantly told that Labour were much better and such things would be in the past once they got into office. Turns out they are no strangers to this themselves and now the excuse is reduced to: well the other lot done it. |

No elected politicians can do too much positively when they inherit 100% debt to gdp.
The only way to solve it is to take that money back. Until that happens it will only get worse for the majority of the population. |
