As with most of the British utilities it appears British investors don't want to invest their considerable wealth in their own country. |

Labour are pro taking such organizations back into state control. However in the case of the post office they seem less keen so can only think even they don't think it's worth it. If the new owner makes lots of money from it, the government will have missed an opportunity |

£3.6bn is the reported sale price
Royal Mail turnover is about £12.6bn
2021–2022
Royal Mail made a profit of £758 million, but this was a slight decrease from the previous year.
2023–2024
Royal Mail's adjusted operating profit was lower than expected due to inflation, strategic investments, and other factors.
First half of 2024
Royal Mail's parent company, International Distributions Services (IDS), reported a profit of £4 million for the period ending September 29, 2024. This was a turnaround from a loss of £194 million in the same period the previous year.
Royal Mail's operating profit has experienced dramatic ups and downs since 2013. In 2013, the coalition government privatized Royal Mail, ending 499 years of state ownership.
Presumably Reeves could also have bought it back for £3.6bn

Do you think it is diminishing returns, or do you see an uplift it future profits?
I personally think it is a seriously large amount of management and people for a dwindling service, and the sale price reflects that. |

A few years ago I met a RM manager on here, 25 years service at the Plymouth sorting office, she said the letter post had fallen significantly and parcel post increased. On the former RM have a monopoly, on the latter a hugely competitive market. Declining high street retail and increasing Internet sales driving the parcel business. Social media and email primarily the causes for reduced letter post. Noting as well in 2022 RM wanted to axe 10,000 jobs and put out 5-6k for voluntary redundancy
From their website:
“Letter volumes have declined from a peak of 20 billion a year in 2004/5 to seven billion in 2022/3. In five years time, letter volumes will drop to four billion while parcels continue to grow”
“As letter volumes decline, the number of UK addresses has grown by four million since 2004/5 so the cost of delivering each letter is increasing. Royal Mail lost £419 million last year”

I see a rebuild of the business from the bottom up. Lots of jobs going. Letters / post every other day in rural areas might be one. Some how it's will have to make money 💰. |

Everytme I go in the Post Office there's a massive que, OK having one counter assistant instead 4 of doesn't help.
They kind of shot themselves in the foot still thinking it's 1991 and there's no Internet then use a martial art school Fujitsu to provide a computer system when they clearly know nothing about computers.
Make stamps cheaper and have a third class service too.
Start selling books and then advance to everyday items.
