Well what a surprise just been reported on the BBC news that Israel has passed a law for new settlements to be built on the Golan heights yet another violation of international law.

because this story only came out on Sunday completely different to the extending of the buffer zone.

It was only the other day the Israeli finance minister was calling for the expansion of a greater Israel by seizing land as far as Damascus! The Israelis are playing the western world for muppets anyone who criticizes them like Ireland has done will be called antisemitic!

Israel is just creating more problems for themselves. Once these new settlements are attacked - and it is almost certain they will be - Israel will play the victim card again and respond with their usual fury. Anyone critical will be labelled anti-semitic. US aid and support will be guaranteed. Thousands of innocent victims on all sides will suffer and the whole horrible cycle begins again.

You won't find the rainbow flag flying in Russia or Crimea, or anywhere in the Middle East, apart from Israel where it flies proudly.

So when a country flies a rainbow flag and annexes territory it's democracy but when a country that doesn't fly a rainbow flag annexes territory it isn't democracy??...or have I misunderstood that?

So how do you account for the Arabs already living in the Golan, under Iaraeli rule, who want to continue living under Israels administration?

From The Telegraph, "The residents of a Druze community in southern Syria have expressed a desire to become part of Israel to prevent assaults by “radical Islamists.”

A video circulating on social media shows a gathering of the religious minority in the Syrian village of Hader, in the buffer zone between Israel and Syria which is now fully controlled by the Israeli Defence Force.

“If we have to choose, we will choose the lesser evil. And even if it’s considered evil to ask to be annexed to the [Israeli] Golan, it’s a much lesser evil than the evil coming our way,”"

Just seems surprising given all the anti-Israel sentiment about living under Israels rule. So now it's not only the two million Palestinians living peacefully in Iarael, now the Druze would like to continue doing the same. Makes you think, hmm.

so one minute it's just good security sense to increase the size of the 'buffer zone' called golan heights, as this keeps a sovereign nation further away from israeli territory. the next minute israel is pouring thousands of citizens into the buffer zone and in closer proximity to the aformentioned sovereign nation ..... that's just bullshit really innit

They do, otherwise how do you explain Palestinians holding the highest offices in the land.

You're doing well with deflection without actually answering the question. So you denying there are Palestinians in the Knesset and that there isn't a Palestinian Supreme Court judge.

And if there is how did they get to hold the highest office in a land which is not equal for all citizens. A land who has enshrined its commitment to equality by stating it in its constitution "[Israel] will ensure complete equality of social and political rights to all its inhabitants irrespective of religion, race or sex" Mrs x

oh come on, you know the extreme right wing orthodox Jews won't allow that to happen! Israel as a state only has those types of people in power!

You would never see a person or let alone names like Mansour Abbas, Ahmad Tibi, Haneen Zoabi or have parties such as Ra'am, Balad, and Hadash.

Never going to happen.

During Israel’s establishment (1947-49), approximately 750,000 Palestinians fled their homes and land in fear or were driven out. After the war, around 150,000 Palestinians remained inside of what became Israel’s internationally recognized borders. Today, there are approximately 1.6 million Palestinian citizens of Israel, comprising about 20% of the total Israeli population. Though Palestinian citizens of Israel can vote and participate in political life, they face a web of institutionalized discrimination and exclusion.

You forgot to link the 2012 source from which you got this quote. It would help people to understand the context and sentiment behind it. Like how they have judged Israel as committing genocide.

Nevertheless, what can a Jewish Iraqi or Russian citizen of Israel do that a Druze Palestinian, Muslim Palestinian or Christian Palestinian cannot?

I suppose that there are upsides to Israeli-ruled settlements in Golan. Women will have rights, they won't be stoned to death for adultery, they'll get an education and won't be forced to cover their entire bodies except for their faces on the whim of men. Gay people won't be shackled, blindfolded and pushed off tall buildings, and beheadings certainly won't be as popular. Happy days

And I am sure the 1.7 million Palestinian people living in Israel are over joyed to see their siblings and fellow countryman slaughtered by the very people they live amongst.

Must be fun and an honour to be allowed to live among such people.

Especially when there is a memory of what was done to them which they shamed sorry shared with the world and now I see what was done to them they now attempt do to others.

If you want to use a defence of the nation argument, There was already a buffer zone between Israel and Syria under 1974 agreements which Israel broke 2 weeks ago with the fall of Assad of not only going into that buffer zone, but then crossing into land much further into Syria…..

Also… they basically took out the Syrian navy and started bombing Damascus

You can’t call everything a “preemptive defensive strike “

If you want to use a defence of the nation argument, There was already a buffer zone between Israel and Syria under 1974 agreements which Israel broke 2 weeks ago with the fall of Assad of not only going into that buffer zone, but then crossing into land much further into Syria…..

Also… they basically took out the Syrian navy and started bombing Damascus

You can’t call everything a “preemptive defensive strike “ "

That is what I'm trying to balance out, is it justified following recent events, or is it not.

On paper I can see the legal side but in my thinking I can understand the move forward from a defensive point of view, I can't however defend it 100% or be against it 100%.

If returning the land compromises the security of Israel and opens the door to hostility, does that change the thinking? I think in some cases, practical security realities outweigh the legal argument but this push as I said is harder to defend.

"Question to those who believe Israel is wrong to begin expanding settlements in Golan Heights:

it flies in the face of the excuses you made last week for benny the butchers land grab innit

Can you answer the question? yes in one word illegal!!! As recognized by almost all other countries.

It is illegal, is that the only thing that you object to?

The fact that no country in the world recognises the golan heights as sovereign Israeli territory and call it occupied Syrian territory after the 6 day war…. Plus there are a fair few un resolutions condemning the occupation and annexation of the land …

But you know .. that whole “illegal “ thing

I said it is illegal, it is there in black and white.

My question was, "is that the only thing you object to". Have you got something other than it is illegal?

UN Security Council resolution 242

UN Security Council resolution 497

There is a start….

In fact there was a UN general assembly resolution reaffirming UN Security Council resolution 497…. The vote was 161-1

The one country voting against… Israel

The are talking about moving their citizens into the buffer zone. How can that be classed as defending their citizens.

It is a defensive move, putting Israeli civilians further into Syria puts pressure on Syrian forces and political considerations, they either leave alone or get involved at a state level.

Let's be clear the people moving into that area must be staunch supporters to put themselves in harms way..

And I am sure the 1.7 million Palestinian people living in Israel are over joyed to see their siblings and fellow countryman slaughtered by the very people they live amongst.

Must be fun and an honour to be allowed to live among such people."

Palestinian citizens of Israel (Druze, Christians and Muslims) serve in the IDF in direct combat roles. They aren't just watching. Just as some Jewish citizens of Israel do not serve in the army. It's a complex landscape, which you have oversimplified.

You realise that you've quoted a source that should be called "we hate Israel"? Despite calling itself "Institute for Middle East understanding", it is a single-issue organisation, with absolutely no mention of anything in the Middle East other than why Israel is bad? To boot, it's an apologist site for terrorism (which is why you're too scared to link it here).

I knew you had ask for the source only to attempt to criticise it.

What you need to know is you are not criticising me but the source, which is internationally see as a reliable source of information on the subject of Israel and reporting what Israel are doing to people within their boarders.

But of course the forum posters know better from in front of their devices.

As I said above.

And everyone should take a look, and come to their own conclusions, and not listen to what you think.

Excusing the stealing of land and then more land, thieves plain and simple.

Do they provide a balanced perspective, or a one-sided perspective? (One-sided)

Do they discuss anything about the Middle East at all, other than how terrible Israel is to Palestinians? (Nothing else, at all)

Yes, people who agree with their one-sided position find them reliable.

Shouting out what the MSM do not report is bad I know we should not be allowed an outlet for what is happening in Israel at this time, whatever you think has no reference at all as you are in a 15% group of people in Britian and the world who do not believe what isreal is doing is right and will not defend their actions.
