So European governments (especially the UK) are trying to tax us out of the sky in the name of climate change.
Meanwhile India is building 100 new airports including one in Delhi with eight, yes eight runways.
Between Air India and Indigo ordering over 1000 new (not replacement) aircraft, one of which is the biggest new aircraft order ever.
The country, with government support, is looking to (at least) double passenger numbers by 2030.
Last time I looked India was on the same planet and in the same atmosphere as we are. Funny old world. |

"But they realise if you invest. Tourists will come it's a grate continent to visit.
There are around 18,000 air craft in the air at anyone time.
It's also about what is in ported. "
Of course. I'm not saying that India shouldn't do it.
The point of the post is to highlight the disparity between government thinking.
In Europe we are being told that flying is bad and we should be heavily taxed for the privilege. India is moving hell and earth to "Get India Flying". Their words not mine.
I don't see why one part of the planet should be encouraged to do what another part of the same planet is punished for. |

You could argue that during the industrial revolution, it was the other way round! |

People on 3000 calories per day should eat less.

What exactly has that to do with the so called "dash to net zero"? The past is the past, can't change it.
Meanwhile we are being punished by taxation for a week in Benidorm but India can put 1000 extra planes in the air.
Meanwhile China opens another coal fired power station almost every other week but I get punished for driving a diesel to the shops.
If we are going to clean up the planet then the whole planet has to be on board.
What we've got at the moment is very expensive virtue signaling by British and European politicians while the rest of the world carries on regardless.

We're not talking about fish and chips, we're talking about air travel. Which we are told is one of the worlds major polluters.
So you are happy to pay through the nose to heat your home as long as in India they can get cheap flights from Delhi to Mangalore?
All in the name of "Net Zero" of course. |

Yes I have actually been to India (albeit briefly) and yes when you get out into the sticks it is a very poor country.
But, and it's a very big BUT. India as a whole is a wealthy country. It is nuclear armed, it has a space program and a growing middle class.
That is why they are building new airports and buying aircraft in record numbers.
I have no problem with Indians bettering themselves and if they want to fly then good luck to them. My criticism isn't aimed at India. It's aimed at UK and European politicians who seem hell bent on impoverishing us on the altar of net zero while the rest of world just gets on with life.
As for the "Chinese rubbish" we are probably on the same page, but the same principle applies.
One of the main reasons that Chinese rubbish is so cheap is because their coal fired energy costs are a fraction of what we pay.
We still buy it and by doing that still contribute to the pollution.
But hey we can all polish our halo's and celebrate achieving net zero while queueing up at the dole office. |

Of course but feeding programs are not as bright and shiny as aeroplanes.
And new airports usually get the statue of a politician outside. |

"Being a Indian I hate this thread, so much I have never felt this toxicity, sometimes I feel wetern folks hate us because they ain't us "
Absolutely not.
The thread was never intended to criticise India.
It was to compare a forward thinking country (India) against the dogma driven repressive thinking of Europe.
India is going forward while Europe is digging itself back into (literally) the dark ages.
All in the name of net zero. |

Understood sorry I kinda of misread the thread, I appreciate you coming out and making things clear, every countries of how good or bad they portray does pollute environment, the game changer is how they want to reverse it, India is still very under developed with a huge income parity where top 0.1% holds about 30% of money, hope it reduces, but we don't all live In a practical world capitalist nature of wealthy people take a toll on all of us |
