All depends how Russia responds to western/Nato aggression. So far they seem to be right up for a fight. ATACMs and Stormshadows cannot be used without western troops and Russia knows this.
10 such missiles were lobbed into Russia few hours ago so i think Russia will now target the place they came from. A depot in Poland/Germany? |

I think this is best suited to the politics section. But I believe we are on a major collision course yes. This isn't a unipolar world anymore (one country being powerful i.e. US) and calling the shots. It is a multipolar world with different countries having different interests.
Also a recent US congressional report stated that the US military would run out of arms and munitions within a few weeks in the event of a war with China. So let's hope there isn't a major war on the horizon. As it would be disastrous for everyone. |

"Trust me, our military isn't ready for a war. If the public knew how undermanned and outdated the equipment is, I wouldn't blame them to be scared for the future lol "
Just like WW2 then
But that wasn't the question I asked. |

If the US military is predicted to run out of munitions within a few weeks in the case of a major war with China and Russia. Then the UK has no chance. |

I would say its different,
Not many wars are fought with boots on the ground anymore, all technology and the UK is still in 2004.
I don't think WW3 will kick off but again if it does, it ain't going to be caught with our pants down. |

I'm not to sure that conventional munitions or even manpower would be the deciding factor of WW3. |

"How close do you think we are and how concerned are you ? "
How does it feel for you compared to the seventies or 80s? For me I really felt it was imminent and highly likely in the 80s. Now I’m older and less concerned with my own wellbeing and future so I don’t feel the anxiety and concerns I had then but I do think it’s something we need to consider as likely. Even if their technology is all soviet era it’s still going to cause apocalyptic damage somewhere. And Putin is enough of a crazy fiddler to do it. |

For me it feels much closer now. The 70s felt like posturing |

That’s interesting as in the 80s for me it felt very very likely and I was genuinely terrified. Perhaps now I just realise I’m unlikely to last long. Also I no longer live in London so dont feel quite such a target possibly.
There’s a lot going on around the world that concerns me.
However I think an early poster got it right saying the outcomes of the next 3/4 months will be critical. |

I guess we're in a time will tell situation |

I think we possibly all feel a little unsettled as it’s been a change of government here from right to left and in the USA from left to right (I think?!) coming up so lots could change. Also new alliances are forming with Russia and North Korea and China all swirling around each other very openly. I saw the start of an article about Luton having been missing for 12 days recently but I didn’t read the whole thing at the time and when I went back to look for it I couldn’t find it. Anyone know anything about that? |

"lol! Luton is not lost. But putin may well have been. I love autocarrot.
Not to sure many people would notice if Luton went missing
However I digress. "
I think a fair few would disagree with me and consider it lost already tbh |

Yes, if your age is correct on your profile. I was born 1970 and remember Lorraine and Leonard in those adverts at Christmas. |

Nowhere near and not concerned. Its not called MAD for the shits and giggles where nuclear weapons are concerned. Putin has rattled that sabre plenty of times and knows he cant do it. Trump can bump his gums all he wants about ending it in 24hrs but that wont happen either. He wouldn't be so brash if china decided to hack a great big piece of the eastern seaboard of the US and then he got forced to negotiate a peace treaty where he gives up what he lost so why should Ukraine? Putin is now at the stage where he is bribing russians with wiping out their debts if they join the war. Thats how desperate he is along with using North Korean soldiers. Give him what he's invaded and Poland is next and where does it end? The west needs to make a stand here and now or tyranny will rule. |

It's very hard to make an assumption based on current events. I feel Putin is flexing pretty hard and for his own political (or otherwise) survival he cannot back down. The West are trying to remain firm and resolute and not concede.
2 cage fighters, constantly circling and dancing around each other, each looking for an advantage, an opening, a moment to make a decisive move.
This will play out 2 ways.
An event will cause a massive escalation and retaliation or
An "Off-Ramp" will be found.
This is what needs to be presented to Putin. Something that allows him to cool down and exit the theatre.
I fear however, that "off-ramp" will be conceding some Ukrainian territory and they will be thrown to the wolves. Putin needs to feel victorious and not go home "empty handed".
When the dust settles, and there is no active war in the rest of Ukraine, immediate overnight NATO membership. He's not getting the rest of Ukraine.
