Putin knows come January, there is a strong chance US aid to Zelenskyy will be cut, and the terms for a ceasefire will shift in his favour. That’s why I think he’s making a big push now to grab as much land as possible, so he can hold onto it later. It explains why we’re seeing such intense fighting at a time of year when both militaries would normally avoid getting bogged down in entrenched battles |

If UK has supplied Storm Shadow missiles why the fuck have they announced it, Its not like the Russians would know what the missile was or who give it to them, Hopefully it calms down in the new year, Ukraine will probably lose some land but its better then a endless war |

It's quite easy to pick up all the bits of exploded missile and do some jigsaw work to figure out what it was before it was rapidly disassembled. If we hadn't told the Russians, they would already know by now. |

To make Putin's generals think twice. They now need to consider areas of up to 200 miles inside the Russian border as targets, that has not been the case until now.
The Ukrainians will hope that this move will prevent the push forward from the the Russians, preventing more land loss. |

With the exception of intelligence and western special forces operating with Ukraine (uk reported to have sent the most), all the weapons systems made available have been part of publicly announced support packages. Different opinions on the announcements, mine is that UK announcement has shown solidarity with USA (and France I believe is allowing use of scalp). This could all change very quickly when Trump is inaugurated. |

To demonstrate that he is bluffing and set a precedent (or lack thereof). It's an intentional statement."
Doesn't this make us fair game for a attack on Uk soil, Potentially by a third party supplied the Russians ? |

Putin is in a load of trouble, 40% of state spending is on this war. Relying on foreign (NK) troops and convicts.
I don’t think Ukraine is in any better shape, save for the potentially enormous economic backing from its allies |

It’s easy to identify components, even after an explosive incident. As for an endless war, Ukraine giving up land now wouldn’t mean that Russia wouldn’t come back again when it has restocked its military capability. Putin has aid that Ukraine isn’t a real country and he has said that the collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest tragedy of Russian history in the 20th Century (note that approximately 20 million Russians died in WW2 - in the 20th Century).
Russian imperialism will not stop at Ukraine, Moldova would be next and Latvia and Lithuania not long after that. We cannot think that Putin and the Russian elite can be negotiated with - they can’t. They imprison and murder their own people, they don’t share our values. |

No more than Russia is a target for enemies of countries that they back with military hardware.
And only if Russia is willing to engage (which, were all betting, they aren't). |

We shall see an end to the war soon.Russia and China are having a major falling out apparently

In the film Last Man On Earth with Vincent Price, predicted Russia and China have a war and result is the end of mankind.
The film was later Omega Man and the I am Legend. |

The cheerleading is all very nice but what’s the exit plan for Ukraine here?
They’ve been losing ground for months and they aren’t getting it back. They are running out of cannon fodder. Anyone with money has already left or bribes their way out of service. So the poor uneducated rural Ukrainians get conscripted to die on the front line for nothing.
Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet and hasn’t had an election for years.
Sooner or later they are either going to have to accept an exit deal or lose. There is zero chance of an Ukraine victory.
Lobbing a few missiles across the Russian border isn’t going to make any difference.

It isn't nonsense at all.
You are aware that the UK, USA and Russia were guarantors of Ukrainian independence? We were also guarantors for Poland in 1938 despite Neville Chamberlain's weakness.
Perhaps you think that we should not have got involved in the fight against Nazism as Poland is quite a long way away. |

You didn't ask the question that was asked of you.
Are you supporting the right of Ukraine to exist as an independent country, make its own decisions and live the life that it wants to live?
Or do you support a murderous dictator who thinks that Ukraine has no right to exist, its people have no right to want freedoms and that the murder of civilians and the complete annihilation of towns and villages is an acceptable face of warfare? |

An ICBM with a conventional warhead is a waste of a valuable missile and highly unlikely. If it was a ballistic missile it was probably a tactical battlefield missile. Soviet Union produced thousands of these since early 50s and Russia still has a sizeable number of them. |

"News outlets confirming that UK supplied Storm Shadow missiles have been launched into Russia, the day after US Atacms were fired.
Reports of a command HQ used by Russia and North Korea has been destroyed, and an ammunition depot.
This is hotting up for Putin. What next ?

You didn't ask the question that was asked of you.
Are you supporting the right of Ukraine to exist as an independent country, make its own decisions and live the life that it wants to live?
Or do you support a murderous dictator who thinks that Ukraine has no right to exist, its people have no right to want freedoms and that the murder of civilians and the complete annihilation of towns and villages is an acceptable face of warfare?"
What question was asked of me?
What difference does it make what I think?
Lots of bad stuff happens all over the world. Why are we getting so engaged about this one?
What happened to Afghanistan? One minute we spent twenty years trying to turn it into New York. Then we left in a hurry and we no longer care.
The same will happen with Ukraine.
Is Ukraine a democracy? Has it historically been run for the benefit of its people? Why did millions of Ukrainians leave Ukraine before Russia invaded in 2022? Because it was a corrupt shithole and they’d rather take their chances elsewhere.
Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet. The idea that it was being run as some sort of popular egalitarian democracy prior to 2022 is laughable.
How do we know now whether Ukrainians support this war? There are no elections. Ukraine is under martial law. There is no free speech. There is no independent media. If Zelensky is so popular let him run again in fresh elections.

whatever russia do, it'll only involve doing what they're doing to ukraine already, so no shift there really. they may snip the odd undersea cable, but that only pisses the owner off, which in the latest instance is google. |

I didn’t realise that Putin occupied all of Ukraine. Is the situation worse than we are being told?
Do you deny the international indices that have always put Ukraine near the top as far as corruption is concerned? Do you deny the population decline in Ukraine prior to 2022? Why were people leaving in their millions if it was such a great country?
What is the end game in Ukraine? What is the West’s goal? |

It will be interesting to see what's next, Putin has now directly threatened the UK publicly. He is playing brinkmanship thinking the UK are a bunch weak cowards. It seems to be the last throw of the dice. If he gains or holds any land due to negotiations he'll have the baltic countries in his sights, as he'll see it that the west has no minerals to stand up to him.
The missile fired at Ukraine was just a show, if he attacked the US embassy there would be a big response, if he attacked another country other than Ukraine there would be a response, he knows that and he would lose.
If anyone thinks that Trump can stop the war or even wants it to stop are deluded. Russia does not need to win in Ukraine, he just needs the west and the USA to shown as weak. Trump entering negotiations will be the time the USA is seen as weak country with a weak leader, it will embolden Putin to take more land around his border, and Jinping to take take Taiwan without a shot being fired as Trump will be toothless when an invasion force sits off Taiwan.
Any cowards out there that think Ukraine ceeding land and negotiating must have a wish to live under Russian laws because that is what will happen.
Globally there is too much to lose for the USA if Trump thinks he can negotiate, he might but it will be a one time offer with no consideration of what Putin wants, in which case prepare for war. |

Russian sabre rattling against us is only because we deal in actions and not words. If they did that to the French they would find themselves slaughtered access Africa
Not the baltic
Moldova was already indicated as the next target when invasion began and then Georgia. After that it will be Azerbaijan and that will drag half the Middle East into war.
As for China I don’t think they’ll try to take Taiwan. It would leave them too exposed and also more beholden to Russia who they’re arguing with over who gets North Korea.Chinas next target is much more likely to be India |

I think China would be more interested in taking back the massive amount of territory that Russia grabbed in the 19th century including Vladivostok.
China is very good at playing the long game and has noted Russia's weakened military capabilities. There would also be far fewer negative international complications of a Sino-Russia spat than one against Taiwan or India. |
