18 members of a smuggling gang have been jailed reports the BBC.
Whilst this is welcome news does anyone really think that they won't be replaced within days, if they haven't already?

So not a success of smash the gangs then and we still await some progress. I would guess that gang was replaced long ago as its very lucrative and the boats continue to arrive in high numbers |

How exactly do you propose removing the demand?
The demand is rooted in political turmoil, victimisation and other problems across a large number of communities countries. How do you propose solving all of those problems and thereby removing the demand?

Without international co-operation it's impossible to stop cross-border people smuggling. So far there has been very little appetite for a co-ordinate response. Every country wants to push the problem elsewhere. Even at home, people seem content to look the other way. |
