It seems Labour are sending staff to support the Democrats campaign. I suppose as the Labour Party that's fair enough, but as the government it's highly irresponsible. Apart from which, what is in our national interests? The Democrats are hardly pro British, both Biden and Obama had a chip on their shoulder and rejected any close collaboration.

Nothing fair about if you are financially supporting people with free accommodations. It a legal.

"Liebour interfering in US elections offering volunteers free accommodation to back come to the USA and demonstrate.

"

That’s one hell of a spin…

Basically people are volunteering in their own time ( basically their annual leave) paying for their own travel, and being put up in rooms of Democratic Party members

It will be the stuff like working the phone banks and the house to house canvassing

They will not be getting any pay for doing it… it is strictly voluntary

It’s the stuff normally done by young people doing political science degrees or just finished and want political experience

It actually perfectly normal… I bet you could find conservative/reform members doing exactly the same thing for the republicans

It happens in all directions… you probably had a few American kids doing exactly the same thing in the uk election using it as experience for the us election

It’s been happening in elections since time began…. This is Trump again setting up the excuses

This is a lot more legal than the Elon musk million dollar giveaway

Why did Sofia Patel remove her post then?

If nothing to hide. Say it again Liebour the gift that keeps giving. What’s next week news, a photo of Keir with Jim will fix it? Oh there’s always one for them?

Because she probably should have sent it from a personal account, rather than anything linked with the Labour Party where it could be perceived as speaking in an official capacity

She got tripped up by the civil service official social media policy rules and rightly took it down … that’s all! It’s no biggie

Fair comment, but once again, Labour are getting the optics wrong. In the event Trump gets elected, Labour are immediately on the back foot with our supposed 'special relationship'. You'd expect the governing Party to be a bit more savvy, no?

Under federal election law, foreign citizens can campaign in US, providing they’re not paid & have no influence on decision-making by party operatives.

It isn’t new for Labour (and Tory!) activists to volunteer in US elections - they do it every time.

Trump campaign’s decision to weaponise probably shouldn’t come as a surprise as again.. it setting up excuses for if he loses,

But if it’s an issue for Labour, then isn’t it also one for eg Nigel Farage & Liz Truss?

Lincoln/Exeter

This government are utterly inept and this latest misstep is just another example of it. With the free gear, WFP scandal, the perception of 2 tier politics and the budget that will go down like a cup of cold sick with the public, Labour seem determined to be a one term government. I've spoken with family friends who are from mining communities and they've said they view Kier and this government as being more against them than Thatcher ever was.

I can fully understand folks being against the Tories, they were dreadful; but speaking up for and defending Kier and his harem of incompetents is beyond the pale.

A nod to our new foreign secretaries comments on Donald Trump

"Trump is not only a woman-hating, neo-Nazi-sympathising sociopath. He is also a profound threat to the international order that has been the foundation of Western progress for so long."

“ Donald Trump is a 'racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser'”

Starmer better hope Kamala gets in.

Relationship with Dems isn’t great, but I’m sure you’ve seen the actions that trump has promised and realise that they are significantly worse.

And now trump is basically declaring war on the current British government, should he gain power.

The note saying “we are sending over 100 of our people” made it sound as though it was a co-ordinated party effort. Backtracking and saying it’s just a few people doing their own thing, just doesn’t stack up.

Well one of his well known generals who worked for Trump whilst in office has literally yesterday said that he has a fascination with certain German generals under the leader between 39 and 45… so he might not be wrong!

As of March 2024… there are 365,000 members of the UK Labour Party

So you were saying “over 100”

100 activists in a grand total of 365,000…. Context?

Context? The words “we are sending over …”

Two possibilities.

One is that the Labour Party did not co-ordinate an effort and “send over” 100 people to help. In which case why lie and make it sound like a party initiative?

Or it WAS a co-ordinated party initiative, in which case why delete the post and then deny it?

Shambles. Makes them look weak

I see things slightly differently.

No other UK party has openly campaigned against him, and he would be far more interested in attacking Uk with labour in government than he would have a different government is in power.

As far as he is concerned, labour have put a giant “kick me” sign on our butts. Your suggestion that he will attack other people (in the US) first doesn’t make a great deal of difference. He is perfectly capable of lashing out in several directions at the same time.

As far as he is concerned, labour have put a giant “kick me” sign on our butts. Your suggestion that he will attack other people (in the US) first doesn’t make a great deal of difference. He is perfectly capable of lashing out in several directions at the same time.

Maybe, we will see. Anyway, I thought trump and the republicans were promoters of free speech? Surely he won’t be offended and upset by ‘hurty words’

"A nod to our new foreign secretaries comments on Donald Trump

"Trump is not only a woman-hating, neo-Nazi-sympathising sociopath. He is also a profound threat to the international order that has been the foundation of Western progress for so long."

“ Donald Trump is a 'racist KKK and Nazi sympathiser'”

Starmer better hope Kamala gets in.

Why? Trump won’t care who is the PM, he only cares about ‘America first’ , the UK is irrelevant to him

Perhaps you are new to watching trump. He has decided that the British government are working against him, now sees them as an enemy, and will attack them first chance he gets if he is elected. Who suffers? Us.

Attack us? How? He isn’t a director, if he becomes president he has a number of problems to fix first, we are way down his list of priorities.

How? Hammering US businesses overseas. Chucking massive targeted tariffs on imports from the UK.

Kicking the shit out of an “enemy” will he very high up his priority list

He will do that regardless of who is the PM, he has plenty of ‘enemies’ in the US to deal with first,

He is a huge proponent of free speech, but only when it relates to what he and his camp are saying.

He takes offence easily when others criticise him, and vows vengeance.

On the flip side, of anyone cosies up to him he announces that they are “very clever”.

Ergo… Farage has interfered in US elections when he was a Brexit supporting political activist - right?

The Labour supporting activists are not the Labour Party, and they are not MP’s. As with Farage, they are just trying to help out a cause that seems to align with their own interests.

It's perfectly above board according to everything I have read. However being above board does not equal a good thing to do and broadcasting it probably even worse. Saying we are sending over 100 people to assist the dems just gives trump ammunition that he can spin this to his advantage. In the unlikely event he wins then I hope they can put the past behind them but with lammy insulting him in the paste and now this, it's a tricky start.

Whether it's legal or not.

Whether it's been done by the right or the left.

Whether it's commonplace.

Whether it's been done before.

I don't think that it is right to meddle (or give partisan support, finance or logistic assistance) to an overseas campaign for election UNLESS those doing so are registered to vote in that particular election process.

End of.....

"Liebour interfering in US elections offering volunteers free accommodation to back come to the USA and demonstrate.

The note saying “we are sending over 100 of our people” made it sound as though it was a co-ordinated party effort. Backtracking and saying it’s just a few people doing their own thing, just doesn’t stack up. "

It doesn't stack up because they are desperately trying to play down yet another own goal.

This started from a labour staffer recruiting for the Dems, they should keep their noses out of other countries elections especially as they are the UK government, the look is hideous...

But labour claimed they were “sending” 100 people, and that there were still 10 spaces available.

If it’s all above board, why are labour now denying what they initially posted?

Did not know they are denying it now but would assume it's because they have realised the bad optics displayed. They may have done more harm than good by giving trump ammunition to spin. Also on optics would it be ok for the likes of Russia and China to send lots of volunteers to work for either side as long as they paid their own way

This labour government are particularly thick. They cannot seem to go more than 12 hours without making themselves look utterly moronic.

It’s low grade 6th form politics at best. They’ve had 14 years to prepare and they are piss poor.

The “they had 14 years to prepare “ is utterly ridiculous. How much has the political landscape changed in those 14 years. Brexit, Covid, Ukraine. Because didn’t the Tories blame everything on the last two, not Brecht obviously because that’s been a resounding success.

I don’t have a team I’ve voted Labour, Conservative and even Liberal in the past. I voted for Cameron in 2015 because after their 2010 defeat Labour were doing what the Tories are doing now they went left, the Tories are going right. Neither are what the British public want no matter what Reform supporters say.

True. But it’s ok to confidently predict that labour will “walk” the 2029 election?

All I flagged was that their support is dropping. It as a different poster who predicted the election result!

In what way?

Are you saying that we’re not allowed to comment on our government?

Is anyone from this country helping the Republicans campaign, just wondering. Or even anyone from Labour helping the Republicans.

If Labour aren't being paid for the help will they benefit in the long term post election.

The other thing is Labour in cohutes with the Russians while helping the Democrats?

Sounds like a bit of another hunk of China being smashed again.

"supporters of all parties have for decades travelled to USA to see what their election process is like - nothing new really"

Not sure these people have travelled to the US “to see what their election process is like”.

The LinkedIn post painted a very different picture of what the initiative was, a co-ordinated effort to send a large number of people to support one of the candidates.

I bet you have them all in stitches down the pub calling labour liebour all the time. I bet Jim Davidson is shitting himself with this comedy gold.

So tell us, ya old hoot, what's your hilarious names for the other parties?

"Liebour interfering in US elections offering volunteers free accommodation to back come to the USA and demonstrate.

Once again, they just seem to be incredibly naive, diving in feet first without thinking things through.

Someone needs to tell Liebour they are no longer the opposition. "

You definitely can and should. The problem seems to be people repeating utter nonsense they've seen on GBeebies, when there is actual real life valid criticism of Labour. But it's not the kind of critique they want to hear.

And that’s racist ??

Let’s stick to factual evidence shall we.

The Labour Party has been served with an unlawful act notice after an investigation into antisemitism by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found it responsible for unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination.

Following initial complaints from Campaign Against Antisemitism, and further complaints from the Jewish Labour Movement, the EHRC launched its investigation in May 2019.

I think he is careful enough to try to present himself as a massive Xenophobe rather than being outright racist, but sometimes he sails too close to the wind and lets himself down, sounding as if he is, indeed, racist.

There is an element of truth to that, I'm also tired of news channels giving their opinions.

But it's a false equivalence to suggest they're all as bad as eachother. GBeebies promotes misinformation, division, conspiracy theories. They certainly keep offcom busy.

Still trying to argue that up is down?

What about the time he said he wouldn't want to live next door to Romanians.

What about the time he stood in front of the poster of brown people and told everyone to vote for Brexit to stop them comin' over 'ere.

What about the time he said Enoch Powell was his political hero.

What about the nonsense he's said about Muslims.

Your best bet in the 'farage isn't a racist' argument is to suggest that he isn't in his heart, he just says all these for political reasons.

Calling someone racist these days is a woke way to put someone down without any factual evidence. Show the factual evidence’ not hear say’ that Farage is a racists. Fact the Labour Party and the BNP are the only two political parties in the UK to be investigated and proven to be racist.

Tbh, I am not sure if Farage is still a racist but there is plenty of evidence from teachers, fellow pupils and work colleagues that he was a racist . Are you saying that labour is still ‘racist’ because it was in 2019?

Show the evidence then, from these so called colleagues??

Do your own research, try Google

Well your making these statements at least have the courtesy to back it up with actual factual evidence from a reliable source "

The racist that is Farage

The ideological madness thar is Truss

Both been to the USA on the Trump campaign.

Dirty Trump politics afoot.

Explain how Farage is a racist please??His comments about Sunak not understanding 'our way' or culture, maybe? I know I'm paraphrasing but you know the comments I'm talking about...

Mrs x

And that’s racist ??

Let’s stick to factual evidence shall we.

The Labour Party has been served with an unlawful act notice after an investigation into antisemitism by the Equality and Human Rights Commission found it responsible for unlawful acts of harassment and discrimination.

Following initial complaints from Campaign Against Antisemitism, and further complaints from the Jewish Labour Movement, the EHRC launched its investigation in May 2019.

Mrs x

Again where your source/reference ??"

BBC1 interview, with Laura Kuenssberg on the 8.6.2024.

He said Sunak did not understand 'our culture' when giving his thoughts on why Sunak left the D-Day commemoration. When pulled on this sounding racist he said it was about class and wealth, despite Farage being a millionaire.

Is that enough for you? If not I could give an impression of the interview using interpretive dance.

If you haven't access to the BEEB to confirm I'm telling the truth just give me a shout and I'll dust off my dance shoes and jazz hands.

There will be labour activists out there who have gone out to help the democrats…

There will be Tory and reform activists out there who have gone out to help the republicans……

The only issue is that she should not have posted it in from her Labour Party account as it would have looked like it was done in her Labour Party capacity…

It would have broken the civil service social media policy… it was taken down

If she had put it up in a personal capacity.. none of this would have been an issue

It’s a storm in a teacup

The way that Trump has highlighted it just means fingers are now pointing in all directions .. so if you have a go at her, you are also going to have to point fingers at Farage ect

Let’s not assume that it’s only one party benefitting from the rules!

If they are doing it in their time using their own money… it’s not illegal

Yes posting from her labour account and saying she has 10 spaces left makes it look like the party are organising this. Again it's optics and on this issue, unfortunately it gives trump the chance to spin it to his advantage. As mentioned on a previous post, if lots of Russian and Chinese people went on the same basis and paying for themselves it might get reported negatively as well, especially if the Kremlin posted that they have some spaces still to fill.

How are we supposed to try to start mitigating against the problems Brexit is causing while still pretending it was a good idea to leave the EU?

As a British citizen I’m concerned that Russia could be interfering in our elections. They carried out an investigation but for some reason the last government sat on it. Labour are saying they don’t want to revisit the brexit vote and again appears to be sitting on the investigation report.

I told you exactly where and when he made racist comments but you've not acknowledged this.

It was quite the thing before the election and was discussed in all the political shows on main street media. I'm surprised you missed it but you seem to be a big fan of Farage, so maybe you've chosen to ignore it.

Oh the irony haha.

Mark Twain never said that quote, it was made up on Twitter in 2012.

'The Australian Associated Press (AAP) fact-checking website also once published a story about the quote. According to the article, a museum spokeswoman for the Mark Twain House & Museum in Hartford, Connecticut, said that its staff found "no trace" that would support attribution of the quote to Twain.'

Sorry to tell you this, I could give you the citation for this but a clever guy could find it for themselves.

"Maybe Labour should release the Report on Russian interference in the Brexit referendum the previous government sat on.

Isn't this more about overtly campaigning for any particular side from a sitting Govt.

As mentioned by others, the optics don't look good. Not that the Labour Party think much before the say something.

As a British citizen I’m concerned that Russia could be interfering in our elections. They carried out an investigation but for some reason the last government sat on it. Labour are saying they don’t want to revisit the brexit vote and again appears to be sitting on the investigation report.

"

if it painted the Tories in a bad light labour would be falling over themselves to publish it,if there not publishing it its gonna be two reasons for that,1,there is no evidence or 2 it would paint them in a bad light also

What has that got to do with Farage being racist?

Calling someone racist these days is a woke way to put someone down without any factual evidence. Show the factual evidence’ not hear say’ that Farage is a racists. Fact the Labour Party and the BNP are the only two political parties in the UK to be investigated and proven to be racist.

Tbh, I am not sure if Farage is still a racist but there is plenty of evidence from teachers, fellow pupils and work colleagues that he was a racist . Are you saying that labour is still ‘racist’ because it was in 2019?

Show the evidence then, from these so called colleagues??

Oh dear was it not Twain’s words, then Farage must be a racist then. After all he allegedly said the son of an immigrant might not understand western culture. The just the most racist statement I’ve ever heard in my life. Worse than using the N word.

I find it particularly strange coming from a guy who is demanding evidence and citations but when these are supplied you appear to choose to ignore them or put your own spin on the evidence supplied.

Very strange and does little to strengthen your arguments. Bit silly really.

You really are doubling down on this. Very silly.

I didn't say it was my opinion, Farage made this comment during a televised interview. He was immediately challenged by this as sounding objectively racist by the interviewer. He was then questioned about this in subsequent televised interviews because these interviewers believed that his comments appeared objectively racist. This was on the date I gave, on the channel I gave by the interviewer I also gave. Yet you continue to deny that these comments are racist, or you try to minimise the level of racism.

As for your Mark Twain comments, they are laughable. I gave a direct quote, from a world renowned fact checking service. This quoted a comment from the leading expert on Mark Twain, who said there is no evidence of the author ever saying this. Yet you still refuse to believe it, because as you put it you are a 'free thinker'.

This is getting boring now and in such circumstances, in light of the evidence against your argument I would tell such 'free thinkers' to wobble your head. Unfortunately I can't do this here because I would worry that your tin foil helmet may fall off... silly, silly, silly....

Sunak is English, what don't you understand, it's a joke but just not funny.

Look up what objective means, all the interviewers challenged him that it was a racist comment. Why else would he say to an English man hat he wouldn't understand 'our culture'. Wasn't because he was brown was it. Wasn't because his parents are Asian, maybe?

It's a racist comment, Farages masked slipped for a second and everyone could see him for what he really is.

Oh dear was it not Twain’s words, then Farage must be a racist then. After all he allegedly said the son of an immigrant might not understand western culture. The just the most racist statement I’ve ever heard in my life. Worse than using the N word. But again that's not what was said. You seem to like attributing words to others that were simply not uttered.

I find it particularly strange coming from a guy who is demanding evidence and citations but when these are supplied you appear to choose to ignore them or put your own spin on the evidence supplied.

Very strange and does little to strengthen your arguments. Bit silly really.

Mrs x

You did say Farage said in an interview that the PM at time might not understand English customs/cultures. And that in your opinion is racist. Personally I don’t think it is. I don’t understand Japanese culture does that make me a racist.

And on the subject of Twain’s there more evidence to attribute the quote to him then not. Most rational free thinking people associate the Quote to Twain.

Mrs x

I don’t believe not understanding the ways and cultures of another society is racist. Obviously you do , have a nice day. And in the word of Mark Twain, never argue with a………….

‘In your option’ what are the ‘cultures and the ways ‘ of the UK ? "

Well obviously Sunak won't know what they are, he was only born in Southampton and is English haha, Mrs x

Do your own research, try Google

Well your making these statements at least have the courtesy to back it up with actual factual evidence from a reliable source

Why? I am not here to convince you, it’s all out there, as another poster once posted, open your eyes bro

So no evidence just excuses

Like I said, I am not here to convince or educate you, it’s all out there,

Yet you can’t produce the evidence to prove it?

Mark Twain had a brilliant quote for people like you. Never argue with an idiot for they will beat you with experience and bring you down to their level. Thank you and good night xxx
