Are manifestos worthwhile?

"Labour will not increase taxes on working people, which is why we will not increase NI, the basic, higher or additional rates of Income Tax or VAT"
The words of Rachel Reeves.
Nothing there to clarify what is meant by "working people" and certainly nothing to indicate that employers NI might be hit.
At best, disingenuous. At worst, a lie.
Or is it ok because it's the Labour party, not the Tories??? |

The trick is to make manifesto commitments that get the party elected, then look for weasely ways to get around their pledges. Of course any taxes on businesses like NI are an indirect tax on workers because costs just get passed on. |

"surprised you can't tell the difference between workers and businesses to be honest"
A company director or KC is as much a worker as a nurse or a labourer. The failure of the Labour party is that they don't want to acknowledge it |

Who's denying it was lie? That wasn't the question |

All 21 Plymouth Labour councillors abstained from the tree felling vote, which enabled the famous illegal felling of 96 Plymouth city centre trees in 2022.
No lectures from Labour on the environment |

Are you talking about inside or outside IR35? |

Manifestos are not worth the paper they are written on. Insult to the voters intelligence and are not counted as a legally binding document or contract because if they were you'd find things a bit different. Make them legally binding I say, punished by a term in prison if broken or at least fineable. |

2.I didn't realise that the forum rules were that you were so special someone had to answer your question, my bad.
3. Was the to subtle for you that it was a joke.
4. Yes I know the difference between inside and outside IR35 |

"the difference is that if you fall inside ir35, then your attempt to be considered a business rather than a worker was foiled."
That took you days to figure out didn’t it
So if an inside IR35 contractor is an employee why do they:
1. Pay Employer NIC?
2. Pay Apprenticeship Levy?
From their day rate?
If they are an employee then why do they not get any rights or benefits such as:
1. Holiday pay
2. Sick pay
3. Maternity/Paternity pay
4. Employer pension contributions
5. Redundancy or notice periods
6. TUPE
7. Paid time off for learning & development
Any thoughts? |
