Lee Harris on X

The interview with Labour Minister of State for Security, Dan Jarvis, who refuses to answer.

Where will illegal migrants go?

8000 arrivals since Labour came to office.

Closing Marsden, ending the extensive hotel schemes, ending the Rwanda scheme, where will the migrants live?

The select committee interview this last week showed the home office questioned on paying for 5000 hotel rooms, in knowledge all were empty every day, to be used as a ‘buffer’. At a cost of £600,000 a day.

Reported by Harris that 90% arrivals are approved with right to stay in uk. The secretary did not disagree with the figure

He says 1000 extra home office staff will be recruited to process claims, at salaries of £30k that will cost £30million a year.

He does not say where the migrants will live after being processed.

Labour don't have a plan either

Fuck me, they had better have degrees if that salary is correct!

The biggest question is why we are accepting 90% of applications.

This is double the rate of some European countries.

Our system must be too soft, or applied too leniently. No wonder people are desperate to get here as, when they do, they are highly unlikely to be deported.

Fear not, 'Raver' Rayner has released swathes of greenbelt land to build social housing and asylum hostels.

couple, us we him her.

So it's labours fault already huh?

What we are seeing is year's of systematic " burying heads in the sand" ignoring long term issue.

1st we should have been following examples of many other countries particularly Turkey building fit for purpose facilities providing medical, schooling the ability to buy food, places of worship and playground for children and an onsite immigration officers and office to deal with claims straight away.

All in a secure facility to prevent people just disappearing.

But treating them like actual humans, tackling the issue rather than pretend it's going to disappear.

2nd tightening of those being allowed to stay, they obviously all know what to say to be able to stay.

Also tighten employment law's so employers are obligated to employ people who are British passport holders before employing cheap migrant workers, for example farming who exploit this loophole.

And crack down on employers who ignore the rules.

There is also a strong case for ID cards, which would need to be shown for many parts of everyday life.

At the moment it is way too easy to live without the correct documents. Facilitated by the "communities" who generally don't respect our country or society.

The officials in France were complaining about the UK system straight after the latest tragedy. They say getting black market jobs in the UK is far too easy and that is a major attraction for these people. Unfortunately it means no tax contributions paid by them and at risk of mistreatment

I see one of these select committee things to the other month. Then they were saying 80% were accepted. However as other figures showed something was not correct they perused the matter and the official admitted that only 4% had actually been fully processed. So it was 80% of 4% in reality. As I understand from other threads on here, once approved they have to fend for themselves. Possibly local councils can help a bit but not sure

Sunak has agreed to pay France £450million for extra security/border control

Sunak spent £800million on Rwanda (which would have taken 120 years to deport the current 41,000 down for deportation at the stated and disputed figure of 200 a year capacity)

Home office is spending £600,000 a day on 5000 empty fully paid for hotel rooms

Bibby Stockholm had a suicide and legionnaires disease. Cost £22million and is being closed in January 2025

96 asylum boat arrivals are suing the UK over ill treatment at Marsden. Presumably with legal aid

Reported several months ago Marsden security staff recruits were on full pay gardening leave waiting security checks

The home office today has 215,500 asylum claims, of which 41,000 down for deportation but can’t legally be sent anywhere

8000 more arrivals since Labour came to office

Labour are recruiting 1000 more case workers for asylum claims, to replace the 1000 the tories had working on the Rwanda scheme

Reported that 90% of arrivals will be given right to stay.

The United Nations says another 1,200,000,000 more migrants will enter Europe by 2070 due to wars, poverty and climate change.

Add the costs of anti immigration / racial riots in August - £20/30million in policing the disorders, the racist attacks, arson, and looting. Hospitalisations of public and police. Replacing burnt out emergency vehicles.

1,280 arrests and nearly 800 charges had been made in relation to the unrest as of 1 September, the court costs, prison costs for those sentenced

According to Law360, the insurance industry is likely to lose less than £250 million from the anti-immigration riots that took place in August, which will be going on renewal premiums.

So much expense incurred due to this issue, yet some don't like it talked about and will say it's not a top issue, instead it's just a distraction tactic by the government. Now Labour are in I'm not sure if it's still considered a distraction tactic.

How about we stop panicking about foreigners?

People can start to critically analyse the politicians and elements of the media that blame immigrants for all the ills in the country, maybe think about why they're always used as scapegoats.

That'll do as a good start.

Rayners pledge of 300,000 new social housing homes won’t touch the sides.

There are 1.21 million (households not people) on social housing waiting lists (1.1m in 2010)

Private developers built 32,834 social housing units last year, a 22% fall on 2022. And a net loss of 9000 after right to buy and demolitions.

Total new build completions for all tenures for 2023 stood at 158,190, an 11% decrease compared with the previous year (177,810).

If the 90% have right to stay where will they live

Thinking about how we are going to house an extra 40k people every year who don't even have a job, in a country that's struggling with housing crisis and shortage of resources is part of critical analysis of the situation. You making random unrelated one-liner posts making strawman arguments with yourself, trying to stop any discussion about this is the exact opposite of that.

We must treat people humanely and appropriately. The previous 14 years have been atrocious and we must improve. Part of humane and intelligent treatment means that people need income to live here. If it's not possible via the means we permit, others will be sought. The onus is on us to create a workable, appropriate system, in everyone's interests. Government is only now fully coming together, so attention must be on them, to see how they fare.

Looking at the government web for this weeks arrivals. If 90% are granted right to stay then housing minister Rayner needs to find an additional 1000 council houses a week.

With 1.21 million on council waiting lists it’s an impossible situation to resolve.

I'm not sure I would describe the treatment in the UK of these people as inhumane. Many need rescuing from the sea, then they get shelter, medical attention, food and drink while awaiting due process. They are allowed to apply for work once accepted. According to the official from france, many decide instead to seek black market jobs, which only benefits the rouge employer. Yes attention is now fully on Labour and its plans. After years of saying how much better they will be, it's now time to prove it

Government is only now fully coming together, so attention must be on them, to see how they fare.

After years of saying how much better they will be, it's now time to prove it"

Rouge employer - is that Red Ken? Is he even still alive?

Yeah I know you mean rogue but hey, you take the laughs where you can get them.

And this has been the problem with the government.

Rather than tackle the issue and come up with viable ideas to help with the crisis, they have been too busy finger pointing and name calling.

Strong leadership is going to require tough decisions to be made that lot's of liberal minded do gooders are not going to like.

Unfortunately a tougher stance is needed to tighten up everything if that means stopping all claims for a year or two to be able to deal with what we currently have then so be it, it's not economically sustainable to keep letting thousands enter every month.

"So it's labours fault already huh?

We must treat people humanely and appropriately. The previous 14 years have been atrocious and we must improve. Part of humane and intelligent treatment means that people need income to live here. Sorry Leroy you must have been living under a rock. Right up to the end the Conservatives were trotting out the blame Labour rhetoric. I have no idea if Labour will be better (in terms of their moral behaviour) but it is a bit rich comparing 2 months of vocal criticism with 14 years. Let’s see when Labour decide to change the rhetoric. If they cease after 13 years they have been better 😉

Don't think the Tories were blaming Labour for immigration towards the end. It was mostly ECHR that was blamed for blocking the Rwanda flights. Agree that it's a bit too early to blame Labour. But I would expect them to at least have a clear plan in a year. The only thing I have heard so far is how they are gonna smash the gangs.

About a third of the total of the 21,000 people that have crossed within a 12 month period. Males are the largest demographic, 83%, but includes babies to pensioners. Which is in itself an interesting statistic. Maybe less risk adverse?

I'm sure your right I just don't recall it as an excuse in the recent past. Certainly if someone dragged up the austerity years they would blame Labour but for more recent things like high inflation, high interest rates, cost of living , I don't recall Labour being blamed. As said I don't doubt your right. I was hoping Labour would be better from the start. Perhaps silly on my part.

Labour don't have a plan either "

If they are illegal why not deport them? If illegal they have no right to claim anything. They've broken into our home. That is a crime. Deport, deport, deport. The government is supposed to protect us against invasion not reward the floatsum that washes up on our shores.

Not trying to prove anything one way or the other. Dismiss it if you like but we know 21000 have made the journey already this year. If you then see 83% were male and of those 40% were aged 25 to 39 it means several thousand were indeed in the age bracket you said so these figures seem to agree with what you first mentioned. Maybe calling it defending borders is not ideal

"Pull out of treaties, pass uk legislation to ban all asylum claims and stop them reaching uk shores - fairly simple really but there is no WILL "

Ok so we do that and the pound would crash. We would also find it even harder to get trade deals with other countries.

"We need to defend our boarders. Get the navy back up to scratch and sink the invaders before they land.

Send the current invaders back to France."

Yes a dinghy full of unarmed people is an invasion? Our armed forces priority is save lives first not attack.

Due to the treaty of.........why bother!

The foreign secretary should be busy contacting the countries heads of state the refugees/asylum seekers are coming from and get them to stop their people migrating illegally and only do it legally by application.

What gets me is they miracously find the money to pay people to get on a dinghy and run a mobile phone.

These countries should be more responsible in controlling their populations especially when it comes to contraception. Why be producing children when they can't afford them and then risk a dinghy journey too a country miles away it's insane. Sure there are genuine hardship cases but if these countries don't get a grip on the situation they're going to kill the the golden goose that feeds them ie the UK.

Plus there's the added problem of immigrant groups fighting between themselves for what little housing that's available or bringing their own political racial prejudices here which will be more costly for everyone.

Meanwhile poor Minnie the pensioner is loosing her winter fuel payment and possibly her single person council tax discount. The world's gone mad.

You can't have movement of people on this scale without active state collusion.
