I've heard the term thrown around and having only done a quick Google search, it appears to be the idea that the police deal with certain protests more harshly than others?
On the surface, I imagine they do, but surely it depends ont he actions of the protestors unless some examples can be given? |

I can't keep up...
The right is complaining about racial profiling and police brutality
The left are complaining about the unruly youth roaming the streets...
What's next greenpeace rolling out their new petrol station franchise |

"It's politics, ask for the thread to be moved maybe..
Ew... Am I going to end up with a post in the Politics forum? 🤢"
You already have
It's ok though if you need to talk about it..
It could be worse, might have slipped on the way and ended up in the virus one.. |

Exactly. All policing activities should be proportionate to the risk and threat, not only to the officers but also to the wider public

It’s needs an asterisk or n.b. which states ‘when they are on the receiving end.’ |

Sure:
Kill the bill protester set fire to a police vehicle. 14 years.
Racist rioter set fire to a police vehicle. 2 years 5 months.
No the answer that people defending the race-hate-enthusiasts want. But there you go. |

The two exact cases haven’t been referenced but if I’m correct in my guess work:
Defendent A set fire to multiple police vans, some of which had occupants in them (telling them that they would ‘go bang’) and incited others to help turn a vehicle which was near a large crowds of people before setting that alight…..
Defendant B was caught ‘trying’ to set fire to a police van. |

Of course, not the exact same. Both massive bellends. But there's plenty of examples you could pick to demonstrate the point. |

Maybe people who think this are comparing the police response to the riots by the Roma community where the police just backed away and left them to it, versus the far right riots this week that have been dealt with very efficiently with people already jailed two days after the event.
If only the police and justice system were this efficient all the time!

That was a real disingenuous example you referred to there to deliberately mislead.
Good Job there OP had some knowledge of both cases. |

West Midlands poloce made a point of naming a man on their Twitter account who they arrested and charged for possessing a weapon. They even stated he was kept in custody pending his court appearance. It wasnt a typical English name.
Our point is, it is very easy to allow emotions to get the better of you. We fall for media crap from time to time. Our government and authorities are shit but from time to time some folk do try to do the right thing. |
