Some polling by JL Partners this week of voting intention of 16/17 year olds puts Reform in second place to Labour, on 23% compared to Labour’s 39%.
Will this be enough to deter Labour from implementing the policy?
Is reducing the voting age an easy win for more votes that Labour presumably is assuming? |

Correct, it is another way of securing a block of votes. The left love this idea, the sooner they can get the kids into government control the better.
I have my suspicions around GB Energy, creating 650,000 jobs with the unions, nice little voting block there. |

Labour support is about that of the country.
Rightwing support is a bit lower with the kids albeit more weighted towards reform.
That probably makes it overall favourable for labour.
Interestingly huge differences between male and female voting intentions. |

just this minute!
South Fife
They can legally have sex and therefore kids at 16, which is a major thing, so why are they too immature to vote if they are (allegedly)mature enough to bring up a child ? They can work and pay tax as well, it is the youngsters country too |

"Harmonise everything to 18, driving, alcoholing, smoking, working, marrying, sexing, soldiering, taxing, voting. The lot!" Watched that new quiz with Ant & Dec and it said the minimum age to we'd has now changed to 18 years old.... So that must be right,

"And old enough to be named in criminal proceedings. So are 10 year old, Mrs x"
When the defendant is a minor. In relation to under 18s in the Crown Court, S45 of the Youth Justice and Criminal Evidence Act 1999 which came into force in April 2015, allows the criminal court to prevent the publication of anything that would identify that young person as a defendant, until that person reaches 18. |

"If you're old enough to pay taxes you're old enough to choose who spends those taxes
A 2 year old could also pay tax."
Arguably some already do through IHT (yes that is on the estate but the 2yr old won’t get it ultimately). |

But they can be working at 16 and paying tax with no voice on how the tax is spent.

A two year old, perhaps orphaned at birth, would pay tax on any investment income earned from money lady by the deceased mother.
The tax rules do not alter with age. Sixteen year olds are no different from two year olds. |

What not if you're working and paying income tax.
Are we trying to discourage 16 year olds from taking up apprenticeship, lots of the apprentices at work drive, and do so to get to site with there tools. |

The tax rules do not change at 16. It is legal for 13 year olds to work and pay tax. 13 year olds earning from Youtube or any other activity are subject to exactly the same tax rules as everyone else. Your argument, if valid, would have to apply to children of any age. |

Keep everyone in education. Those who are more practical rather than academic focus on skills through apprenticeship type approach. |

"No please don't let 16 year olds vote, unless they bring in politics and economics into the school curriculum."
Good post and I totally agree. But would the school teachings be the views of the teacher giving the lessons? |

I assume there would be a set curriculum laid down by the DofE |

It's always been 18. Under 18 needed consent of parent. No? |

Inheritance tax isn't on the estate, it's on those who stand to inherit the money. But HMRC levy it on the estate to cut down on the dramatic evasion that would occur if they tried to collect it from the individuals. |

Has buck gone again?
Six weeks and he'll be back again. |

He probably will return under original profile, or has made a new one to start soon |

This was my thought, the sock puppet has probably been sitting there for a couple of weeks already. |
