I hope that when Labour steps into power, that this forum is FILLED with all the WONDERFUL & HAPPY THINGS that they are going to bring us.

Let's face it, we need it, don't we?

We have been through Brexit. Covid. A World Financial Crash. The Ukraine Invasion and Energy Crisis. Then the Attacks on Israel.

I hope that we are going to Turn the Page - Make a New Start - Make us Trust in MP's - Get us Healthier than we have ever been! Give the Young Doctors the 35% Pay Rise. Be able to Warm our Homes with Cheap Energy. See that Child Poverty Ended. Have a Fair and Well Managed Migration System and ALL of those Gang Masters Smashed by BFC and put in Prison.

I can't wait to read all of those Happy, Up-Lifting Stories on here Every Single Morning.

(sorry - I'm filling up a bit now Going for a coffee)

Red and individual hypocrisy is respected by the people of our country, blue hypocrisy is bad though.

I get the post but not your use if capitalisation. Are you, subtly, trying to indicate that these are actual things rather than sentiments.

Using capitals in the way you have in the post I am quoting is an online way of indicating bizarre or silly thinking. But capitalising the first letter of a word mid-sentence implies a proper noun. So are you trying to indicate these are actual things rather than simply ideas and concepts?

All anyone needs from any government is that they quietly get on with governing the country and making it a good place to live, work and grow old in. After that everything else sorts itself out because employers are attracted to a healthy, educated and mobile workforce and to an environment where people have money to spend.

It feels to me that for at least the last decade or so, voices in the media and on the extremes have been provoking anger and a reaction to stories that otherwise would not represent half a column on page 7 of a newspaper.

I am personally tired of political drama and would be very happy if the next five years we just have a quiet political landscape where politicians just get on with their jobs and don’t feel the need to generate anger and division.

I feel the Starmer’s government to be will usher in a period of normal politics again, and this is long overdue.

It would be wonderful if we had a government that wasn't constantly cycling through attacks on various sections of society.

If Labour get into government, I'm not convinced they'll deviate from this tactic. It's been very successful for the Tories for so long.

"If we had a Labour government would all the things you mentioned not of happened? Brexit, financial crash, war in Ukraine and so on?

Brexit definitely wouldn't have happened.

The financial crash would have therefore been lessened. And it would have been less likely that the government would have used it as an opportunity for personal enrichment through some classic disaster capitalism.

Can't see the war in the Ukraine being treated much differently if Labour had been in power.

None of the above is because Labour are in any way a good political party in my opinion. Just less narcissistic and self-serving.

The current financial crash isn’t really as big a deal as the media are making out. Did people really expect interest rates to stay so low for ever?

Everyone demanding higher wages has a knock on effect and forces prices up even more.

Realistically, your opinion of how things would be different is no more accurate than my opinion of how things would be now.

I think these things happen and we just have to make adjustments and get on with life, rather than constantly looking to blame the government.

(I want to see the interest rate sky rocket, 10%+. I’m fed up seeing headlines about people whining because their mortgage has gone up and they was to stupid to realise that mortgage rates fluctuate when they took out a massive mortgage).

As I thought. Well you probably know that a high base rate not only impacts on personal finance interest rates such as mortgages but also impacts business finance/loans meaning less investment meaning less jobs meaning less pre-tax profits meaning less corporation tax? And it also means government borrowing is more expensive meaning debt interest is higher meaning more of our taxes are used to service the debt making less available for government provided services! But hey, as long as you are getting a bit more interest on your savings that’s cool

"Yes. But surely the point is now that they have happened are Labour going to bring a fix to them all and there be wonderful news stories each morning about how they have?

(Which is what I actually did write in the original OP)

Personally, I don't think there is any easy fix to the state of the country after 14 years of Tory rule."

And there lies the crux of the matter.

And that will be Labour's Mantra for the first 5 years and one week."

We've had 14 years of Tory ministers blaming Labour. This lessened as they had Covid and Ukraine to blame.

"If we had a Labour government would all the things you mentioned not of happened? Brexit, financial crash, war in Ukraine and so on?

Why do you see or anyone else see Labour as a saviour?"

Under Corbyn, Brexit would probably not have happened and if it did it would have been a more pragmatic and less ideologically purposed Brexit. With Covid, I doubt that £billions would have been doled out to private entities and instead the cash would have been funnelled through the NHS putting it in a much better place financially and structurally post-pandemic than it is now.

Labour has always had a majority in the Welsh Senedd and is in charge of education, NHS, attracting business to Wales and making us drive like my grandmother. Wales is a failure, thanks to Labour, we are bottom of everything.

If you want a blueprint for the next few years just take a look at us, bearing in mind you’ll have to do so at 20mph

That’s where the funds have always come but the decision for how and where to spend in the most crucial areas lies with the Senedd which has always been run by Labour. We have the worst NHS results in the UK and a new Welsh national curriculum not fit for purpose and the Senedd has pulled in less business investment than its predecessor the WDA.

Be very careful what you vote for, Wales is a mess. The Tories haven’t done a good job and they wouldn’t get my vote but if you use Wales as a template for a Labour run government then you’d have to be particularly stupid to vote for the toolmaker’s son who doesn’t know what a woman is.

Depends on the type of policies they are implementing. There are some policies which look great in the short term but fuck the country in the long term, like borrowing beyond means and spending to keep the populace happy in the short term.

Or austerity, and refusing to borrow to invest in public services while loans are dirt cheap, leaving massive holes in capital budgets meaning schools, hospitals etc. fall apart and roads are covered in potholes.

Austerity was a political choice, not an economic necessity, and it harmed the economy massively. Then to compound that they refused to take out dirt cheap loans to invest in the country made, again a political choice that harmed the economy.

The government keeps trotting out the tired old trope of needing a strong economy to have strong public services, then fails to create conditions for economic growth.

One day people may realise that productivity is tied to investment, and that you cannot improve productivity by doing the same things but harder, in a crumbling infrastructure.

Instead we’ve got the economically illiterate comparison of government spending being like a household budget, and the dominance of short term thinking and vulture capitalism destroying what little innovation and manufacturing we have left.

Nothing much is obviously going to be different afterwards, as it would take months and years to achieve changes.

But the _anifesto, that I've not seen, is largely not going to deliver much other than a foundation, unless they get re-elected, with an ability to invest more heavily.

Something Wonderful is coming, but NOT after 6pm on Friday's . . .

***Sir Keir Starmer has said he "can hardly believe" how the Conservative election campaign has pivoted towards attacking him for spending time with his family, having revealed he doesn't work after 6pm on Fridays and hopes to keep it up if he becomes prime minister.***

He has penned a note to the World NOT to have any world events, climate catastrophe, NHS emergencies, scandals, waiting list calamities and such like during his 'Family Time'.

To be fair as PM he will probably be working huge hours seven days a week so trying to carve out a bit of family time is a good aspiration, especially as he will probably be “logged on” early in morning on a Friday. I doubt very much be wouldn’t take the call after 6 on Fridays if shit hit the fan

Saying all that, he is so dull his kids probably don’t want family time

Yeah I thought so, but had to enquire because I don’t know you. I only really started posting on this ‘politics’ because of the election."

GB Energy, that's coming, I'm so excited to see this dream spring into life.

I read that it is going to be funded by the government (that is longhand for "us"), and in their words "use public investment to crowd in private funding". The most exciting part is the thought of our money being used to partner with industry and trade unions, to create 650,000 new jobs by 2030.

I cannot see a single problem with this

I wonder if Starmer could finish the smaller issue of laying a train track, while he is at it?

Here's the Imagineering . . .

The Labour Party will create Great British Energy, a new, publicly-owned clean energy company.

We will harness Britain’s sun, wind and wave energy to:

*Save £93 billion for UK households.

*Deliver one hundred percent clean power by 2030.

*Cut energy bills for good.

*Create thousands of good local jobs.

*Deliver energy security.

*Make the UK energy independent.

*Labour will build an energy system for the future, run for the British people.

It's all so Wonderful.

And he has 5years 7months 27days to do it in - so it's also a BIG FOOKING LIE !!!

"I hope that when Labour steps into power, that this forum is FILLED with all the WONDERFUL & HAPPY THINGS that they are going to bring us.

My apologies if I’ve got this all wrong, but the way you are glorifying what Labour might accomplish in government, makes me wonder if that post has a slight smudging of irony. I hope so, because if you really believe that they will do all those things, you are going to be disappointed.

I am aware that they are going to win, but don’t see any great differences between Lab and Con these days."

How refreshing that you asked. Most of us in here are complete asshats who jump on anyone and anything including making assumptions just so we can have a bit of a Barney. Some are also regular piss takers. Some overly earnest. My only advice is don’t take any of this too seriously, we are a bunch of people talking politics while our profiles are full of cock and pussy pictures!

Labour will be tough negotiators on this.

They will start at 50% and if the doctors don’t accept it they will move upwards from there.

"Something Wonderful is coming, but NOT after 6pm on Friday's . .

Isn't that wonderful? "

I think it’s fair enough that he wants to respect his family’s religious observances, some might say attacking him for it is antisemitic.

I’m sure he will be, if he’s needed, but what is he going to be doing at 6pm on a Friday night that he couldn’t do on a Saturday, or even Monday?

Nothing wrong with aspiring to a reasonable work/life balance.

Apparently we only have to look at the success in Wales to see how things will be for the rest of the UK. Starmer has been saying how much better things are going to be once he is at the helm and its not like him to go back on a promise is it!!

Okay so let’s say that each of these jobs pay ‘just ‘ a £1 a week. So that’s £650,000 a week government backed. . . .

This is never going to happen.

And investors are being asked to invest in a company that forever has to keep its product at the lowest possible cost. Can’t you just see the scramble to say hey here’s the money!!!!!! pick me pick me !!!

If this foolhardy adventure is green-lit, I might place a small wager on a total collapse within 8 years and 3 strikes in that period, ending the labour governments leadership.

What odds do you think I could get?

Really good I'd imagine, since the strikes won't happen.

Great British Energy won't be actually employing anyone at all. It exists to invest in new green technology, which means that all of those jobs will be split over hundreds of small companies. The unions won't be able to organise collectively.

On the other point, total collapse within 8 years seems quite likely, as GBE seem very keen on tidal stream generation, and they are ignoring all of the failed projects from the past.
