Who'd have thought a Iran would retaliate after having it's consulate bombed, it's airspace repeatedly violated, and assassinations carried out in its borders by Israel?
What bothers me is why we're such staunch supporters of Israel, who are the equivalent to narcissism personified in it's actions. Weird that.  |

I don't think Iran want an all-out war. I think this drone strike has been launched very obviously from a distance, so Israel and the US can see it coming. When the Israeli Iron Dome system shoots them all down, Iran will be satisfied that they've been seen by their allies to have responded. I suspect this is a calibrated response to show they aren't taking it lying down. At least, I hope so! |

I agree with DavinaTV's very measured comments further up in this thread.
Iran's fundamentalist regime are absolutely appalling, but Israel's now ultra right wing government are super scary too imo. Israel are to blame for this round of retaliatory strikes due to them bombing the s@#! out of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which is effectively bombing Iranian soil, and could easily be considered and act of war.

Giving plenty of warning allowed preparation to minimise the impact, given Iran's arsenal and what Hezbollah have if Iran wanted to react as no doubt some who want Israel wiped out might like then 300 mostly drones by the sound of it is a token response to save face over the consulate in Damascus which they had to do as a regime..

What i find 100% hypocritical of the US, French and UK governments is the rush to send our own aircraft and airmen in to help defend Israel against this attack. And yet none of these same governments will send one aircraft between them to help Ukraine defend itself against Russian attacks that are happening on a daily/hourly basis and have been happening for the last 2 and 1/4 years. I think the answer to this is quite simple…
If we go on ‘physically’ to help Ukraine, doubtless the response would be escalation leading to a major conflict. You are incorrect sir, we are doing plenty to help Ukraine in that we are supporting in every way … and indeed pushing boundaries in financial and military and military training support -as much as we can do without actually putting boots on the ground, which would I suspect be the ‘red line’ to Russia.
The US particularly, and to an extent the UK has to be very cognisant of the Jewish lobby, and given Isreal is not in Putins backyard, it is less confrontational to Russia. That is why we support Israel … it s less likely to end in a major conflict - we’ll not one we are likely to get involved in! - we haven’t got the soldiers! |

Netanyahu is fighting for his political survival. I believe it is inevitable Israel will indeed strike back at Iran, and upon their sovereign territory directly. Targets would have been identified decades ago and plans filed away for future consideration. I'm pretty confident said plans have been pulled out the drawer, revised, amended, and just waiting for the go-ahead.
It would not surprise me if allies of Israel also have some elements of those plans, as they will be expected to assist. That means the UK & the USA.

Said enemies of Iran have never been able to launch pre-emptive strikes on their sovereign soil before now, however this is too good an opportunity to pass up, especially when it can be done under the cover of "retaliatory strikes" by Israel as part of the "recent events".

Of the missiles that got through, they were of the ballistic type, long range fired from Iran. So even if more difficult to target that suggests that all were destroyed.
Israel has the most advanced anti missile defences in the world and they showed this.
The Secretary of defence for America said they shot down a few dozen and it's not know how many Jordan shot down but like I said the estimate for non Israelis, was between 70 -80.
Demonstrated the effectiveness of their anti missile system very well.

It's very effective but it's allies helped as they were unaware of the size of the action. I'm sorry before when I said 70-80 missiles were shot down by USA and Jordan. I should have said Israels allies.
So just using basic maths Israel must have shot down close to 250 missiles, give or take.
That's a very good return on the 300+ missiles fired at it. It's also not guaranteed that it wouldn't have shot down all the others. It must have been a well coordinated counter attack, with Israel and it's allies in constant communication about which missiles it should leave to the allies and not attack.

100% - Iran’s missile strikes show muscle, while avoiding real war. Do you really think that? Iran fired over 300 missiles and only 1% got through to Israel.
Israel fired 3 and managed to hit Iran. So one can only imagine if Israel fired over 300.
Think it's quite smart from Israel and gives an under stated message to Iran of actually how strong Israel is.

So as you can see I addressed this previously.
Whether the system could have handled the missiles without assistance I'm not sure. It's the first time it's been used on this scale. But shooting down 250 missiles on the first attempt is a great achievement.
If they could shoot this number of missiles then it might not take too much of a leap to say it could probably handle the rest.
