Asked why there has been no input (next to nothing) on obesity (single biggest factor in the health of the ailing nation and treating it is the single biggest cost to the NHS - 100billion cost to the economy)?
Well we are making Britain a smoking free society...
Tech, AI and apps...
Asked why they have failed (as PM admits) in getting the numbers of waiting patients down?
Well the doctors' strikes...
Asked when they are going to actually deal with junior doctors striking?
Can I take this opportunity to thank the consultant doctors union...
Asked why they moved the funding for building renovations/repair to day to day spending, was it a mistake (think leaking roofs and RAAC, repair backlog of 11 billion pounds)?
We have a 2 year old centre using AI... (Elicits a repeat question)
40 new hospitals programme... (Elicits a repeat repeat)
I endorse the integrated care boards (old CCGs) to spend their funding on buildings |

Dealing with obesity would be unpopular as it would involve taxing stuff or taking away choice as they did with smoking so they will kick the can to the next lot who may kick it back or slowly chip away at the issue. |

The only time in my adult life i have been to the doctors is to get my son inoculated, and the hospital to get a piece of metal out of my eye.
I have never been to the doctors with an ailment, self medication has not let me down so far. |

Obesity rates in the United Kingdom, and around the world, are high and rising. They are higher, and rising faster, amongst people growing up and living in deprivation.

I know fact and evidence upset some people and links to it upset them even more.....(que opinions based on nothing and flooding)
Healthy nutritious food is nearly three times more expensive than obesogenic unhealthy products, with more healthy foods costing an average of £8.51 for 1,000 calories compared to just £3.25 for 1,000 calories of less healthy foods. Between 2021 and 2022 healthier foods became even more expensive, increasing in price by an average of 5.1% compared with 2.5% for the least healthy foods.

I wonder what this looks like if we create a balanced meal.

Why is eating less a win win? Portion sizes is only one factor of obesity for SOME people. The result will be better continue to be malnutrition, but undernutrition. |

I interpret it as we all need a certain amount of calories a day to survive, some of these calories have healthy fats, are low in sugar, high in protein and give us the nutrients we require. Other calories are high in bad fats, sugar etc. I can get 1000 calories from a packet of chocolate digestives for about £2, they would be very unhealthy calories though. To get those same calories from healthy vegetables and fish or chicken, this would cost me considerably more. |

And calories are important at but are not the be all and all (especially in a thread about obesity). You eat vegetables not for calories but other health benefits so to sue cals as metric is always going to paint vege as being expensive.
A stir-fry with a load of rice comes in at £2 with same cals of you OD on rice.

We have to get our calories from somewhere, and the healthier food is more expensive calorie for calorie, especially when you are trying to eat a balanced diet. As people have said, pasta and rice are cheap, as are tinned tomatoes etc. but when you start to add in white meat or fish then you start to get more expensive. Then you have to look at variety etc. |

Peanut butter that cheap is unlikely to be good for you it’s probably full of additives, such as sugar and hydrogenated oils (which may contain trans fats).
6 large eggs will contain approximately 1300mg of cholesterol, more than twice the recommended daily amount.
And eating oats with water is the dullest thing in the world, although pretty healthy. |

Is peanut butter healthy?
What you’ve done is take an actual study, and assume that you know better based upon your personal experience in the supermarket.

"I know fact and evidence upset some people and links to it upset them even more.....(que opinions based on nothing and flooding)

£8.50 for 1000 calories... what are the using as the "healthy food" fillet stake???
Can you disprove the figures?
Ye a £1.09 jar asda peanut butter has over 1000 calories in it. There are loads of cheep calorie dance foods. I have never read anything so ridiculous in my life...
100g of porridge oats 600 cals £1.25
6 large eggs £1.85 approximately 500 cals
I could go on and on..
Peanut butter that cheap is unlikely to be good for you it’s probably full of additives, such as sugar and hydrogenated oils (which may contain trans fats).
6 large eggs will contain approximately 1300mg of cholesterol, more than twice the recommended daily amount.
And eating oats with water is the dullest thing in the world, although pretty healthy."
No additives it was 100% peanut butter...
Eggs causing issues with you cholesterol was and old trope and has been largely debunked.
"RCTs in people with diabetes have found that eating 6–12 eggs per week didn’t negatively affect total blood cholesterol levels or heart disease risk factors. Rather, it increased high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (17Trusted Source, 18Trusted Source)."
Why on eartg would you have oats with water. 6 pints of whole milk £2.25 2176 calories. |

The "healthy is good expensive" (in that report at least) was based on cost per cal. I think we both agree that more is needed than cals for balance.
But even on their numbers I can get the 1000 cal from rice for a quid, and still have three left over to top up with some meat and vege. That's something like 200g chicken and 300g brocolli.
Is that balanced enough ? Dunno. How balanced is the 1000 cal unhealthy. I'd fathom worse.
Is lived experience as easy as this ? No. Is there an issue to address. Yes. I'm just challenging of the way the paper presented the issue is balanced.
I don't think so. After all even if you had the money for 1000 cal of vege, you'd still struggle to eat it. It's almost 3kg or brocolli! |

I think you hit the nail on the head earlier. For most working people and people with Families it's more time and convenience as apposed to cost.. |

I know how the digestive system works thanks. And actually not everything is absorbed from the large intestine - fibre!
Thanks for confirming you have no medical background. And I have no clue as to what point you're trying to make. |
