Today is a historic day for sweden, as
sweden finally joins nato after a nearly two year wait and became the 32nd member of nato, in a landmark moment for the historically neutral country and the western military alliance.
What is your view of it? I think that it is a good idea. I was watching the meeting when they said welcome to sweden, it was a good moment |

My view is that this clearly demonstrates that that hard of thinking who talk about “NATO expansionism” can now see that NATO doesn’t force expansionism. Individual countries have the freedom of choice to apply to join NATO as a means of protecting themselves from a neighbouring aggressor. |

I doubt that very much. Those people will still be convinced that the aggressor is NATO, and will believe that poor little Sweden has been bullied into joining NATO against its will. |

At one point didn’t Russia ask to join NATO and were told no?
Wonder how that would have worked in relation to Ukraine (who may not have been a member - or Russia would have blocked)?
We have Greece and Turkey as members of NATO with friction still over Cyprus so not all harmonious! |

Nato filled their pants when Russia invaded Ukraine.
Empty promises of Ukraine being allowed to join, two years on, nothing. Half of pledged supplies arrived late, and now in the east Russia taking more ground every day
BBC fergal Keane said 380,000 Ukrainian combatants killed and injured which coupled with no aircraft being sent to support ground forces is now giving Russian advances the upper hand.

It will certainly test Sweden's recently arrived immigrant population when the press gang officers come round to conscript. Would certainly be a test to see if multiculturalism really is a strength that's for sure.
Russia won't be able to move further than Ukraine. People forget that it's got the largest national border in the world to defend. |
