In 2020, Sunak hired John Sheridan, a partner at Theleme to advise the Treasury on Covid policies. The fund has invested 34% of its pot in Moderna – its single biggest investment – reported to be valued at $710m.

That article is a year old.
The hiring of Sheridan seems suspect. The investment in Moderna seems suspect. But for me this is the most interesting part…
“When asked, Theleme denied that Mr Sunak has any interest “either indirect or direct” in its funds. However, when asked how it could possibly know whether Mr Sunak was a beneficiary under a trust that held Theleme funds it failed to respond.”
Which comes across as smoke and mirrors or plausible deniability.
The key, surely, is one of timing? At what point was the investment made in Moderna. Also, did Sheridan recommend Moderna? Has a whiff of insider trading about it. |

An M.P asked a question at PMQs today.
Mr speaker in some jurisdictions minsters routinely publish their tax returns the PM voluntary published his UK tax returns last year.
Does the PM agree that minsters of the crown should publish their tax returns as a matter of course.
And has he ever filed any returns in the USA that have not been published.
Rishis reply
Mr speaker I don't think that would be proportionate or apportionate for all ministers to publish their tax returns in keeping with the longstanding tradition I voluntary published my tax returns as did the chancellor I think that is the right balance and ive been completely transparent as ive done it.
Note he never answered the second part of the question concerning tax returns in the USA being published here. |

Why would you want to see his US tax returns? What relevance does that have to his job as UK Prime Minister? |

Generally I would say don’t go into public office if you don’t want your life to be public. Nobody forces anyone to be the Prime Minister. Sure Sunak could have continued to be a private individual and make plenty of money but if representing the people of Britain then there is an understandable interest, and I would argue need, for his finances to be more transparent. The reason being to ensure no conflicts of interest or using public office for self enrichment. |

Did I say I wanted to see his tax returns.
There is no law that states he has to publish his returns in this country, he did so voluntary.
The point is he didn't answer the second question, so I take from that that he has filed returns in the USA but doesn't want to speak about it as is his right.
Also it rates a question should M.Ps file their tax returns to show transparency to their voters. |

Hedge funds typically invest in risky investments, I can not see what is risky about investing in moderna. |

It has nothing to do with that. |

Yeah I agree with this. It's a matter of conflict of interest at the end of the day. If I start making money through some other means, I need to report it to my employer even if there is a small chance of conflict of interest. Him being a prime minister means there are numerous ways he can run into conflict of interests. So it's important to be transparent about his investments and how he makes money. |

One may argue such investments helped the vaccine cause.
Sunak has a blind trust which means he doesn't know if he has exposure.
The use of any fund manager on making decisions will look suss and any conflict needs to be carefully managed. |
